I own a 2006 chevy equinox. purchased the car back in august 2009 and a few days after buying the vehicle the car wouldn't start. i would turn the key to turn the car on and it wouldn't completely turn over and it would stick, causing me to turn the car back to off. after attempting to start the car the first time, the second time would usually work. now, it's getting to the point where the car won't turn over without pressing the gas, if i don't press the gas the engine won't start at all. i can turn the key on and off; 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 times but it refuses to start without the gas (i'm worried i'm going to flood the engine now). this happens randomly during anytime of day and during any weather conditions, sometimes it doesn't even happen for days/weeks then suddenly the problem comes back and its worse. this is getting ridiculous especially with a car with only 70,000 miles on it. no dealer will help me because the car will never act up for them. i really don't know what to do and i am running out of options. i don't want to be left stranded because gm won't help anyone with a problem a lot of people are having with the same year and car!

The vehicle has no heat and only blows cold air....does not allow the windows to defrost and is a safety hazard

No hot air blows through vents, only cold air. also, the car cranks, but doesn't turn over most of the time, you have to push on the gas pedal in order for it to turn over. very frustrating for a mom.

I was driving my child to school one morning and the heater started blowing out cold air. some time later, i took my chevy equinox to my mechanic. he said it would cost around $1,000 to repair. this was a shock because my mechanic is very reputable; i have used him for years. he never tries to cheat me or any of his other customers. when he quoted me that price, that's when i knew something was seriously wrong with my car. i don't have that kind of money - i'm a single mother of 2 kids and i was laid off from my job a few months ago. i called chevrolet 3 times and nobody would help me. in the meantime, i did some research to see if any other consumers have experienced this same problem. i found over 600 complaints from other drivers about this exact same issue. i took my car to a mechanic again and was advised that chevy/gm hasn't issued a recall for this problem (car heater blowing cold air) because it would not be cost-effective for chevy to fix it. this is a problem that chevy/gm has known about and, from what i've seen, the problem exists in chevy equinox's from all different model years. not only will i never buy a chevy again, i am filing a class-action lawsuit against chevy/gm for failing to issue a recall to fix a known problem. even if i did have the money, i should not have to pay out of pocket for something that this company knows is a problem.

A cheap plastic part (air temperature control door ) breaks and you lose all heat and cannot defrost or defog windows, and as such have virtually no visibilty, which in my opinion is a very serious safety concern

Heater blows cold air and defrost does not work properly

I have a 2006 chevy equinox that the heater does not work. the blower fan and all the switches are fine. when i turn the temp knob to hot air, only get cold come out. does not matter what setting the mode door is in. vehicle no longer blows hot air when heat is on therefore the defroster will not blow hot air as well. this is a safety hazard! if windows are fogged or iced during inclement weather you can not see and could cause an accident resulting in fatalities. i found over 500 complaints about the same problem on the internet. problem seems to be with a plastic temperature door valve (temperature blend door) that is broken.the cost is over 1,000 and i am being told gm will not fix the problem. i have two small children and we are freezing in my car that i bought to be a family vehicle. this is just one more problem to the list of things i have already had fixed in this car since i bought it.

When driving my vehicle at speeds of 10-35mph my brakes lock up and make a loud grinding noise. the pedal pushes back at me and it is difficult to stop. it's almost as if the vehicle is trying to accelerate when i'm trying to stop it. the problem eventually fixes itself by turning off its abs system... the abs and tc lights come on and then i dont have another problem until i have turned off the vehicle and turned it back on again. it happens everytime i get in my car...and sometime does not correct itself until reaching higher speeds. i have had many occurences when i was almost in an accident because of the inability to stop. i have contacted gm and my local dealer...it was diagnosed as an abs module that needs replacing. on their own gm forums there are hundreds of people with this same problem (among many others with this model)...i guess someone will have to die before they recall this.

The heater core was replaced on my 2006 chevy equinox in april of 2009 at 29,000 miles. it now needs replaced again in october 2012 at 57,500 miles. the first time it was under warranty and was no cost to me. but now it needs replaced, again at $1100+ (dealer estimate). after a weeklong battle with gm, they offered me a 50% cost share. this should not be happening at 29,000 and again at 57,500!! it has got to be some sort of design flaw. it is obviously a known defect (due to all of the complaints), but they refuse to recall!!

Starting in december 2011, our heater blend door broke on our 2006 chevrolet equinox. it is a wide-spead issue with the exact make/model of this vehicle, effecting several hundred, if not thousands. chevrolet has released a technical service bulletin may of 2012) with the exact issue, as well as re-designed the door for future fixes, but refuses to help repair the vehicle for me. even know the problem started before the mileage factor in the warranty for the part, and is over the mileage now, gm refuses to help. my car has no heat at all, windshield does not de-frost, does not de-fog. my wife has to use this car to drop our autistic son at his school as well as to go to work, we can't have no heat.

Car was parked and my daughter went to leave to come home and car would not start. we tried to jump it, but it still would not start. i believe it may be a pass lock issue.
08/20/201275205
I was driving and my car would not brake easily the abs kept kicking in for no reason i had almost hit a car infront of me because the brake pedal became so hard it also kicks in at low speeds and when trying to stop the vehicle.the brakes pedal starts pultiputations and gets hard and makeing a noise like the abs has kicked on.

The defrost and heating system would not work. only cold air blows from the vents. this allows the windows to fog and causes concern. it has been diagnosed as a common problem with the equinox. the flap to control the flow of outside air is controlled by a stepper motor. the motor short circuits, causing the flap to break. thus the flap is ineffective and allows for freezing or hot temperatures to flood the car.

My heater stopped working it blows out cold air. as i have researched this problem it seems to common with all 2006 equinox.

Very cold morning. windows fogged up. turned on defrost heard something pop and felt cold air come into the car. drove to work by wiping the window with napkins. called mechanic to find out what could be done was told this is common problem with this car. called dealer to ask if their was a recall and check price against mechanics. dealers price was the same. interesting part was dealer denied any such problem with this car. checked the internet and found hundreds with the same complaint. received a notice that gm would pay for the repair but the dealer says i do not qualify. this is no cheap repair. looking for a class action or good lawyer. found your site to vent and help others.

Heat stopped working. not able to turn on the heat in the car because the plactic part that works the heater blend door is broken and would take 24 hours and about $1000.00 to replace.
04/30/2012120823
When driving my children to school one freezing cold morning i turned on the heat in my car only to realize that it was blowing only cold air! i brought it to a chevy dealer to diagnose the cause for the lack of heat and they reported that the temp blend door was broken inside the hvac case. it is very costly to fix and is not covered under warranty. it is clear from this website that this is a major issue with the this make, model, and year. it is definitely a safety issue...on the cold rainy mornings it is impossible to have any visibility with a broken hvac system and no defrost for the windshield not to mention the inability to clear the windshield of ice and snow in the winter months! this part needs to be recalled and chevrolet has to be held responsible and offer a solution so drivers can remain safe on the roads.

Bought used in feb 2012 from local dealer the heater worked fine until early april. we had weird weather here in upstate ny very warm so did not need to use heater that much. took daughter to work at 4 am and turned on heat and cold air is coming thru vents, the temp gauge is fine i am thinking maybe the thermostat is stuck open it might be original thermostat or from what i see on this site the mechanical door is stuck or broken. i spoke with dealer he said it was covered in the warranty to pay the $100 deductible and have it checked out , with so many other people complaining about this can the attorney general get involved on this it is definitely a safety issue if no heat and defrosting windows and gm sits on their hands and say it is within gm's criteria well gm obviously sucks and do not honor a major defect in their product. i like the equinox but only had it 2 months and this is not good glad it is getting warm now.

On 4/14/12, the heater/defroster started blowing cold air only. this caused the windows to fog and limited visibility while driving in a rain storm on the highway. after researching the issue online, i found hundreds of report of the same failure in the air temperature blend door dating back to 2008.

My car blows cold air. i had everything checked only to find out that it was the air flow blend door inside the heater system. the entire dashboard has to be removed. to repair it will cost $1291.00 and $96.86 for the dealer to tell me that this is the problem. i live in chicago , my windows will not defrose, i have a hard time believing that this is not a recall. it is unsafe to drive a car when you can't get a clear windshield not mention driving in a freezing cold vehicle.

On february 12, 2011, i began noticing the start up problems with the 2006 chevy equinox. it intermittently has excessive cranking time to start and as of lately (jan. 19, 2012) it only has gotten worse. i took it to the shop to get it serviced the same day and they told me it was the mass airflow sensor. i paid for that but the problem did not go away. since then, i have had the radio replaced and the gas has had many fuel delivery issues. i believe it is the powertrain control module which was recalled in the 2005 chevy equinox. it needs to also be recalled for the 2006 so that i can stop wasting my time and money on something that wasn

I am having the same problem as all the other owners of a 2006 equinox. no heat!!! i have had this looked into and have wasted over $900 on trying to fix the problem. this is ridiculous that they don't do anything about this!! shame on them!!! i have to transport my young daughter in a freezing cold car every day because i can't afford the $1200 that i find out needs to be put into this!! i have been a loyal chevy owner since i bought my first car years ago...but now i will think twice before buying one or even suggesting one to a anyone.

I had a problem with the heat not working in my car. took the car to a mechanic and after they charged me $50.00 to look at it, discovered it was the blend air door that was broken. mechanic also said it was odd that the part was in stock. this is not a common problem to have. $40.00 part for a $900.00-$1200.00 fix. had to get it repaired as we need the heat in wi. also need to be able to see when i drive. something has to be done about this. i am nervous to even use my heat as i don't want to have this happen again. from what i have read online, this is happening often. i don't have that kind of money to keep fixing this.

I was reading through other complaints and i had the same issue as everyone else a year ago. my 2006 equinox was blowing out cold air. i took it in to get fixed (while still under warenty) and had to pay about $900. well, about $750 for labor. they said since it's regular wear & tear i had to pay for it. i've never even heard of it before. the had to take off my entire dash board! it was just a piece of plastic that broke off that door behind all the controls. i actually got on here because recently my safety/auto theft light keeps coming on while i'm driving! the other day my car wouldn't even start and i don't know if this has to do with it or not! has anyone else been having these problems? is it a big deal? help?
12/02/2011
After a month of purchasing my equinox the heat quit working. after doing research on the internet i have noticed that this is a common problem with this year and make vehicle. i took my equinox to my local gm dealer and they confirmed that the problem i was having was with the air temperature door blend breaking due to improper installation of the actuator that opens and closes the door. the actuator will put too much pressure on the door causing it to break over time. this is a safety issue in cold weather states because you don't have heat to defrost your window properly. if this door breaks on a road trip you are likely unable to see until you get the problem fixed. i believe that gm is unwilling to recall this part due to the fact that it is so labor intensive to repair this problem. the cost should not be the issue as people's safety should be their main concern! i am asking the nhtsa to look into this matter and make gm fix this problem!

Heater blows cold air. heater just stopped blowing hot air. after diagnosis the dealer found the temp (air blend )door broke and in the default cold position. had to replace the temp door and the actuator. parts $163 labor $930.60 plus misc. total cost $1184.12
11/01/201172000
It just got cold in my region and i noticed my heater was not working. it just blows cold air out. i did some research and saw that there were lots of complaints about a heat blend door breaking in this model. the part costs approximately 30 dollars to buy but the associated labor is over $1200 dollars. chevrolet hasn't recalled this even though it's kind of dangerous to not have a defroster in icy weather.

Blend door issue just like everyone else when is something going to be done about this
12/09/201159806
The heater blend door and /or actuator have failed. there is no heat or defroster. it is now winter and because of the holidays, the dealer cannot get repaired in the next week or more. part cost = $55. estimated labor cost $1500. this repair is over 10% value of the car and i am told requires removing the entire dash. this is a safety hazard and the car is now unusable for a couple of weeks.

My air blend door broke. this is the second time. which makes it hard to drive because the windows fog up
12/01/201151000
Vehicle has a broken heater blender door with a repair cost of approximately $1000 (the majority of the cost is for labor; the part is reasonably cheap). turning on the heat, the vehicle would only produce cold air. considering it is winter, this presents a considerable safety hazard as there is no defrost function for the front windshield. windshield easily fogs up and it is impossible to defog it.

No heat coming in the suv to defrost windows or to warm up the inside. total repair will be $800.00 for a $30.00 part. plastic plate that controls the air and heat is defective. appartently the part after sometime get weak from heat and cold conditions.only way to fix is to tear complete dash board out to reach blower assembly, replace vent door and reassemble the entire dash board.

My heater quit working in my 2006 equinox. apparently it is a common problem with the air temperature blend door. since the potential danger is there during the winter gm should put out a recall on this part!
11/16/2011
When i start my equinox it sometimes idles down and then back up to where it should be. it also has died after i have started it. but the most concerning is having to push on the gas pedal to keep it from dieing, as if it is not getting fuel. then it will run just fine.

The heater door has broken and the heater/defroster no longer work. the issue causes the windshield to frost over while driving. many complaints on this issue have been posted on the internet.

The heater on my 2006 chevrolet equinox is not working it blows cold air. we noticed it me and my family that it stopped working when the temperature dropped in the evening and we turned on the heat and only cold air was blowing out, luckily we were close to home. the next day i took it to my local mechanic and told me that it's a costly repair at the dealership. i looked on-line to see if there are any recalls but none yet and found out by numerous on-line comments that there is a significant amount of people that have the same problem that i have encountered. the cost to get it repaired at the dealership is anywhere from $700 to $1500 and that is way out my pockets. the comments that people said the common problem is the actuator or the heater core, but a lot of them were steering more towards the actuator part that controls the door flap to get either hot or cold air. it's a manufacturer error please help me and my family along with others that are having the same problem to resolve this issue. it's our family vehicle and winter is approaching i won't be able to defrost my windshield or be able to drive it safely with the concern of it fogging up impairing my vision on the road which can endanger our lives! thank you in advance for hearing out my concern!!

Vehicle no longer blows hot air when heat is on therefore the defroster will not blow hot air as well. this is a safety hazard! if windows are fogged or iced during inclement weather you can not see and could cause an accident resulting in fatalities. i found over 500 complaints about the same problem on the internet. problem seems to be with a plastic temperature door valve (temperature blend door) that is defective on the 2006 chevy equinox

This incident happened in early spring 2011, temperatures in oklahoma are still cold in march, the heater stopped putting out hot air. the defroster would not defrost. my wife drives this car and had told me that the heater is not working. i guess i procrastinated about it, as temperatures became warmer, the heater was not needed. during this spring-summer, i happened to go to a auto repair shop that my cousin owns, there sits a chevy equinox, like the one we own. i asked the tech, what was wrong with it, he stated that the heater stopped putting out hot air through the heater ducts. i was shocked to see the entire instrument panel was disassembled. there was a bad feeling coming upon me. he shared his frustrations about this job, and the design/part that was used for this system, that caused this problem. this was his 2nd repair of this problem. well, needless to say i have the same problem. the heater blend door was broke. i am lodging this complaint due to such an important function of not only heating the car interior compartment, but also most importantly the defrosting system. i strongly feel this is a design flaw from the manufacturer. this defect will cost over $1200.00 to fix at the dealer. there need to be a recall for this defect immediately. thank you.

While leaving a parking lot during a rain storm on the night of june 18th, 2011, i turned on the heater and heard a clicking sound from the dash area, and the heater wouldn't blow hot air. there was/is still cool air blowing from the vent(s). because of this, the defroster on the vehicle would not/doesn't work either, it too only blows cold air. i had to crack the windows open in order for the windows not to fog up during my drive home. believing this was just a simple matter of replacing a heater core or thermostat, and because i wouldn't need the heater during the summer months i didn't start looking into the matter until a few weeks ago. in having the problem checked, i seems that it is a faulty heater blend door/actuator. the cost to fix it is very expensive, due to the labor involved. chevrolet seems to be aware of the problem, but are doing nothing about the potential safety issue. i feel that not being able to defrost the windshield is a serious safety problem, that has the potential to cause a serious accident. i have read that chevy recalled a 2010 equinox because of a defect that caused an inoperable defrost system, but there is no recall for the 2006 model. (failure mileage is approximate)

The heater and defrost only blow clod air making driving a hazard. the air temperature blend door no longer works. this malfunction defect has already costs me more money than i can afford and now i learn that this is a common problem with this year and make. it should be recalled and fixed by chevy.

The heater started blowing cold air. i know for certain that my car is one of many. there was less than 60k miles on the car at the time. unacceptable.
04/10/2006
My car continues to overheat. i had the radiator flushed and new fluids put in a new thermostat put in but it continued to over heat. when i took it in to have it look at (van dorn auto), i was told that the cooling fans are not working. the mechanical shop (van dorn auto) called the dealer and was told by the chevy dealer that they were having problems with the fans because of the sizing and that they will have to order a different size to send to van dorn auto to be replaced in my vehicle. when i called for a recall they told me there was no recall. how can that be if the original parts have to be resized to fix the problem. 2nd issue the windows operated like they are off track when it rains. this has been since i purchased the car new in 2006. every time i go to the dealer, they try to get me to replace the part but they wont offer any discounts. this is a problem with the manufacture and i don't feel i should have to pay for it to be fixed.

My 2006 chevy equinox has trouble starting. the problem used to be intermittent, but has become more regular over the years. i have taken it to three different dealers to diagnose and they say there is no problem or they were unable to duplicate the issue. when the problem occurs it will only start if you hold the gas pedal to the floor. otherwise, it will just crank and then turn off. i have seen many complaints about this online and found that the 2005 equinox seemingly has the same problem and was issued a recall. i work hard to pay the bills and need someone to acknowledge the problem that these vehicles sre having.

We purchased this vehicle brand new against my better judgment because i have not had much luck with american cars but my wife liked it. after several months she had to take it back to the dealer for almost every complaint filed listed on the nhtsa website. if i had the power i would classify the chevy equinox as lemon and recall the entire vehicle but i don't. gm need to step to the plate and address all the issues with this vehicle. recall the equinox year 2005-2006 now!!!!

Vehicle no longer blows hot air when heat is on and defroster not longer blows hot air. found many complaints about same problem on the internet. problem seems to be with a plastic temperature door valve (temperature blend door) that is broken. no heat means windows fog up and and can not see to drive, which is a safety hazard in rainy or snowy cold weather. according to other customer complaints the cost to repair is around $1200 for $50-$80 metal part.
03/01/201185000
Heat stopped working in 06 equinox. told it was the air blend door. $40 dollar part but $1000 to replace. this is a very common problem and is a design flaw by gm. they will not back it. this leaves the car with no way to defrost/defog the windshield. this is a major safty concern.

My blend door also broke from deep inside the dash causing the heat setting to blow only cold air and i am unable to defog windshield. since purchase the vehicle has had difficulty starting. sometimes it starts up on the first try and other times i have to pump the gas in order to get vehicle to start. both of these problems are consistent with other vehicle owner complaints.

Just bought the car a month ago and two days after i bought it the air temperature blend door broke and it cost me $1200.00 to fix and now again the door has broken and i can't afford to fix it a second time. there is no heat and this happend all of a sudden. the windows immediatley fogged up and i couldn't see. there was air blowing but it was cold air. there is no heat at all.

Complainant owns a 2006 chevrolet equinox where the heat and defroster suddenly stopped working on march 1, 2011. took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the air temp actuator over actuated and broke the air temp door. the air temp door and actuator are now faulty and need to be replaced. estimate of $1200 of which most of the cost is labor due to need to disassemble all of the dashboard to replace part. this is a known defect of the vehicle make, model and year and manufacturer has yet to issue a recall. vehicle was not repaired.

Yesterday i got in my vehicle, turned on the heat and defrosters. i only got very cold air, the car never warmed up, the windows never defrosted, they only became foggy inside. g.m. says they have no records of this problem. the internet records over 500 incidents of the same thing happening to 2006 chevrolet equinox's. this car should be recalled and repaired, g.m. knows the part (plastic) fails because on later models they began using a metal part.

2006 chevy equinox. i've had to replace the wheel bearings twice in two years. bot repairs were over $900. now the cair is blowing cold air. a simple google search will see that this is a continous problem with this vehicle.

2006 chevy equinox has problems starting. have to to push gas pedal to even get it to start at times. this has been an issue since we bought the car in dec of 2007 with 32,000 miles on it. second day after we had car the check engine light came on so we brought it in. after that is when the starting issues started have brought it to the dealer 3 diffrent times and the issue will not duplicate itself for them so there is not an issue to them.

My temperature door on the heater has broken off at the acuator due to defective material and my heater doesn't work causing danger when cold with no defrost or heat the part is plastic but requires 9 hours labor to replace and 3 days in the shop because it is in such a difficult location to get to requiring removal of the entire dash and hvac unit

I own a 2006 chev equinox. imy problem began when i had approximately 55,000 miles on my car. this past october (2010), i noticed my heater was not working. no warm or hot air comes out of any vent or defroster at any fan speed. my car has no heat. it is impossible to defrost windows to de-ice or remove/prevent fogged windows when driving. also, i have two small children (ages 2 and 4 months) and i must have heat in the care for their care and safety. after doing research and reading 100's of complaints online about others with this same problem, i took my car to a mechanic at an authorized dealer, where they told me that the temperature door and temperature acutator were defected and would need to be replaced.. the estimated repaire cost is approximately $1500. the inability to defrost and defog the windows of this 2006 equinox is a safety hazard for myself and other drivers, causing lack of visibilty before and during vehicle operation. i recommend you look at the follwoing links to forums where numerous equinox owners have complained about this same problem with their vehicles. http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2006/chevrolet/equinox/window+defroster please investigate this problem and require gm to recall this factory defect.

I have a 2006 chevy equinox and the heat dosent work in it. i've had it about 4.5 month and it' going to cost me $1350.00 to have it fixed. the problem is heater valve door accuator motor. gm knows this is a problem and refuse to fix it. it's not a safety hazard to them. i think it's a safety hazard if your driving down the street with heat you can't deforst your window so you can see were your going and think alot people that is having this problem will agree with me.i feel if stand behind your product and vechiel you should stand up and do the right thing recall this vechiel and fix 2006 equinox!

At 46,000 miles heater blowing out cold air. can't defrost windows. problem started deccember 23, 2010. i have researched the problem and nemouros equonix owners are having the same issue. problem comes from the manufacture. dealership is charging between $800-$1200. entire dash board needs to be removed to switch out a plastic part that was placed instead of a metal one.
11/23/201044000
All of a sudden the heat in my car stopped working, but the fan works. a chevy dealership diagnosed the issue as a failed heater door, which costs $900-$1300 to fix as they have to take the dash board apart. i found out this is happening on a lot of 2006 chevy equinox. chevy should recall this and fix it as it's a faulty part. i have no choice but to fix it now as i need heat in my car and need a defroster. chevy should recall and pay to fix this issue and should reimburse anyone that has already paid.

I have a 2006 chevy equinox, i have been driving this vehicle for 19 months i had bought it used from a gm dealer. i was driving to thanksgiving and notice it no longer blew hot air. the suv only has 56,000 milles on it so i began doing research online, apparently this is not an unknown problem, the chevy equinox from 2005 to 2010 has a defective temperature valve aculator as well as the hvac door valve, gm decided to make these parts plasitic and from other blogs i have read that as an equinox owner you where not to ever use your heat on its highest setting this will destroy the valves. then upon talking to a gm dealer i was told the replacement of these valves will cost 1500 dollars and they replace it with another plastic part and give you a 12 month warranty. this is a danger since a defroster will not clear a windshield in winter with cold air. gm had the decency to recall the 2010 equinox part, but refuses to hear out any of the owners of prior year models. i turn to yuo in hopes some one will help.

I own a 2006 cheverolet equinox. i had no symptoms or signs of the failure i had with my heater. no leaks or symptoms lead up to the issue- it simply stopped working. because gm (starting roughly in 2005) started manufacturing vehicles with a plastic blend door for the actuator- the heat is malfunctioning and only blows extremely cool air. this is a defnite safety issue that thousands of americans are experencing. we are unable to defraust the windows and see visibly- the only response from gm that we are getting is to roll a window down and with 3 infants in the car, this is impossible. the estimates range from 900 to 1800 to fix this part (which requires dismantling the entier dash down to the firewall) which arguably causes a domino effect of other issues to the vehicle. with no visibillity and now way to transport my infant children saftely in the winter- this should definitely be a recall that is a safety and hazard issue on multiple levels. gm refuses to recognize the problem. americans can't afford to have the car fix, but also can't afford to have no heat. there's nothing we can do and we are suffering.

Heater was working fine yesterday, this morning the heater would only blow cold air, even after the car was fully warmed up. called the local chevrolet dealership and they said it was a faulty air temp door that needed to be replaced and it would cost about $925. after much research i have noticed this is a continuing and constant problem for this vehicle year and make.

In november the heat on our 2006 chevy equinox went out-only cold air blows. was informed by local chevy dealer that the heat blender door/valve frequently breaks and that they could repair it for 1500-1800$. if they frequently break why hasn't chevy issued a recall and stopped using s substandard product?

It is now the end of october in pennsylvania. it is very cold at 32 degrees. i turned my heat on in my equinox and it is blowing cold air. i did some research online, and found out many other owners of the 2006 equinox are having the same problem. it is due to the plastic piece braking on the heater blend door. it will cost $1,200 to fix. i called gm to see if their was a recall on theis part. i was told by gm that it has not been recalled because it is not a safety issue. not a safety issue? i am unable to defrost my windows so i may see the road, putting my life, my children's lives and the lives of everyone on the road in danger. i would say this is a big problem!

In may we purchased a certified 2006 chevy equinox. we are retired and do not put miles on the car. we also live in northeast ohio. the first cold day we put the heat and defroster on. neither worked. we found that the heater door was broken. neither the dealer nor gm would help. we have had it fixed. however, the heater door nor accuator have not been redesigned to eleviatet this problem. we found hundreds of complaints on the internet for the same problem- no heat or defroster. this is a major job since the entire dash board must be removed. however, it is a safety hazzard. defrosters are necessary, especially in cold climates. it appears that gm and dealers are denying the problem exists because of the cost involved. these cars need to be recalled.

2006 chevrolet equinox. heater actuator door broke. this leads to unsafe driving conditions. windshield can't be defrosted due to lack of heat controll. 3 cold seasons use should present a recall. completely failed construction of makeup parts. this presents unsafe lack of visability while driving in cold weather.

The heater/defroster on my 2006 chevrolet eqinox failed to produce heat. as a result, i could not defrost my windshield while driving. i took the vehicle to a local gm dealership to diagnose the problem. the failure was due to a plastic air blend door (part# ch19130554) that is controlled by an electric actuator (part# ch15781467). the actuator is not calibrated appropriately and places excessive stress on the plastic air blend door connection. over time, the plastic breaks, disabling the door and not allowing heat to be directed into the cabin. the repair requires the removal of the dashboard, driving control consoles and steering column to access the blend door. it cost me $1,145.08 to replace and required my car to be in the repair shop for 2 days. i live in pennsylvania and needed the repair completed so i could safely drive the vehicle. i strongly believe this is a design flaw that needs to be corrected by gm before someone gets into an accident. i was lucky to discover the problem in the early fall months. i could only imagine what would have happened if it broke in the winter. since gm has yet to address the design issues, i am concerned that i will experience the same problem again. from my internet research, i have identified many others who experienced this same problem and have the same concern. some cannot afford to make the repair and are operating the vehicle without heat/defrost. i am writing in the hopes that the nhtsa can influence gm to improve the design, to extend vehicle warranties to cover the repair and to assist those whom already paid for this repair.

The heat setting blows out only cold air. gm repair service said that the plastic air temperature blend door was broken and needs replacement. gm rep said that gm does not acknowledge that such a problem exists. the defective part is situated within the dashboard requiring the dash to be completely removed. gm repair was familiar with the problem and how to repair it yet gm rep from corporate says gm is unaware of such a problem.

My 2006 equinox was diagnosed on monday with a broken blend door, damaged actuator (due to blend door being broken and leaking), and damaged heating core (due to blend door being broken and leaking). the reason i needed to get a diagnosis is because in mid april the fan was blowing but no heat was coming out. at this stage there was about 55,000 miles on the vehicle and we were just driving normal city driving limits. needless to say i had the vehicle diagnosed and the total repair cost me $1500. the service guy i spoke to told me he sees about 1 in 25 equinoxs with this same problem. living in new england is it not a safety issue if we do not have heat? in the middle of winter we cannot defrost our windows!! this becomes a safety issue because there will be people out on the road driving with impaired vision due to foggy, snow covered, or ice covered windows who cannot afford to pay for these repairs. gm should definitely recall this vehicle for this reason alone which is clearly a safety issue!! what about people who have kids? you always hear about not leaving your kids in the car in extreme heat...i think that the same applies to extreme cold. without heat the same problems can occur as with heat. heat is a necessity in the winter!

The problem with the temp. door not working is if you need to defog or defrost your windows and the heat won't work you cant see. and you don't know when this will happen. thank god i was just trying to take the chill out of my vehicle on a cool fall evening, no matter what i did no heat. stop to get gas, started the truck....... heat came on, now it wot go off

My 2006 chevy equinox started blowing out cold air when i turned the heat on back in may of 2010. we decided to let it go since it was getting warmer out and now that it's getting colder here in mi, we decided to get the problem fixed because the defroster won't work. my husband is a mechanic and we started looking online to see what the problem might be and came across thousands of posts from people that have the same issue. the blend door is more than likely broken, the dash has to be taken apart to fix it and we can't afford to pay someone over $1000 to fix it. the car only has 48000 miles on it and i've never had any problems with gm cars in the past so we decided not to get the extended warranty. i will rethink this in the future because of the cheap way vehicles are being made now. makes me sick we have to do all this work for a cheap part that needs to be replaced.
04/16/201072500
2006 chevy equinox no heat - this vehicle has a problem with the blend door breaking. my opinion, it is a bad design. many equinox owners are experiencing the same failure. it is unsafe because the defrost will not work. my failure happened at 72,000 miles. this is a known problem with the equinox as well as the pontiac torrent. i think gm should be forcrd to recall this at once. it seems the parts are only available from the dealer at a cost of $65 - $200, however the labor is $600 - $1200, no customer should have to spend that on an obvious design flaw
08/17/201052000
The chevy equinox 2006 has had numerous problems with the heating system valve door breaking. it was explained to me by my dealer that this has been an ongoing problem with the car yet it is costing consumers approximately $1,000. to fix. there needs to be a recall on the trap door that releases the heat.

My seatbelt in the back where my 4 yr old sir broke, my cd player more often than not will not take cd's. i do not have heat but my a/c works just fine
03/10/201042000
Heater does not work on 2006 chevy equinox due to an air temperature blend door behind the dash. this appears to be a large spread problem with chevy equinox. any google search with the keywords chevy equinox heater problem will prove this. this is a major safety issue in the winter months. the window will not defrost making it impossible to see out of the front window. my research shows that chevy will not make a recall on this because they feel it is not a safety issue. i would guess this is not the first complaint.

I have a chevy equinox 2006 in which the blend door actuator has broken. apparently this is a problem with many 2006 models. i think it should be a recall. a car in maine in winter without heat is a safety issue.

I was driving on a cold morning and discovered that i could not obtain any heat or defroster action in my vehicle. from searching online i discovered this is a violation of your rule which motor vehicles must have the capability to defrost the windshield. i found that there is a recall on the 2010 chevy equinox at the present time. the module which controls the same part which failed in my vehicle has to be replaced. the end result from the module failure is the same thing which i experenced, that there is no way to defrost the windshield. i took the car to the dealer and they diagnoised the problem. the temperature control door had broken off where it is driven by the electric motor. the entire dash had to be removed to gain access to the temperature control door. i was quoted a price of $895 labor and $55 for the part. after calling gm and they investigated they offered me a discount which reduced the price to$458.40 which i paid to have the problem fixed. once the part breaks, there is no chance of defroster action. the consequences of no defrosting action in wisconsin in the winter means you cannot see where you are going and no way to rectify it temporarly. it can happen on the spur of the moment since once the control door fails you have no defrost action. i asked the dealer for the parts which were replaced and he told me that gm might ask for them. after 30 days if they don't want them i can have them.

I have a 2006 chevy equinox. the truck as 51k miles. the car heater began not working last week. this morning, in kentucky it was 45 degrees, i could not get the windshield cleared for anything. i had to pull of the side of the road and physically wipe the windshield because i have no heat on a 3 year old car. i have seen so many others on the internet with the same complaint, spending 1,000 or more for the repairs. please recall!!!!! *tr
