When driving my children to school one freezing cold morning i turned on the heat in my car only to realize that it was blowing only cold air! i brought it to a chevy dealer to diagnose the cause for the lack of heat and they reported that the temp blend door was broken inside the hvac case. it is very costly to fix and is not covered under warranty. it is clear from this website that this is a major issue with the this make, model, and year. it is definitely a safety issue...on the cold rainy mornings it is impossible to have any visibility with a broken hvac system and no defrost for the windshield not to mention the inability to clear the windshield of ice and snow in the winter months! this part needs to be recalled and chevrolet has to be held responsible and offer a solution so drivers can remain safe on the roads.

On 4/14/12, the heater/defroster started blowing cold air only. this caused the windows to fog and limited visibility while driving in a rain storm on the highway. after researching the issue online, i found hundreds of report of the same failure in the air temperature blend door dating back to 2008.

2006 chevrolet equinox lt. consumer writes in regards to a safety concern with defroster failure, blend door and actuator failure *tgw the consumer stated the blend door was removed from the dash of the vehicle due to a failed plastic end piece that was sheared off the door by the actuator that caused the door to rotate which made the heat and defroster inoperable. there was visible bubbles in the plastic portion that sheared off. *jb

I had a problem with the heat not working in my car. took the car to a mechanic and after they charged me $50.00 to look at it, discovered it was the blend air door that was broken. mechanic also said it was odd that the part was in stock. this is not a common problem to have. $40.00 part for a $900.00-$1200.00 fix. had to get it repaired as we need the heat in wi. also need to be able to see when i drive. something has to be done about this. i am nervous to even use my heat as i don't want to have this happen again. from what i have read online, this is happening often. i don't have that kind of money to keep fixing this.

Heater stopped blowing hot air which causes the windows to unsafely fog up on cold snowy and or rainy days. all visibility is gone as the inside fogs up wipers are unable to clear the glass. may cause potential serious accidents. it is to my knowledge this is happening with every 2006 equinox out there. the actuator goes out of alignment causing the blend door to break and not allow the heat in.

No heat coming in the suv to defrost windows or to warm up the inside. total repair will be $800.00 for a $30.00 part. plastic plate that controls the air and heat is defective. appartently the part after sometime get weak from heat and cold conditions.only way to fix is to tear complete dash board out to reach blower assembly, replace vent door and reassemble the entire dash board.

The air temperature blend door failed. this caused the loss of heat and the ability to defog the front windshield and is a definite safety concern due to the lack of visibility. also this is a know issue by chevy with thousands of failures reported on various websites across the internet.

The heating system in my 2006 chevy equinox failed. i see that this is quite a common issue. we brought our vehicle in and after beating around the bush, the dealer is quoting approx $1000 to replace the blend door mechanism. mostly labor, i understand the part itself is rather in expensive. since the defrost on the front window no longer functions shouldn't this part be recalled as a safety hazard???

The heater on my 2006 chevrolet equinox is not working it blows cold air. we noticed it me and my family that it stopped working when the temperature dropped in the evening and we turned on the heat and only cold air was blowing out, luckily we were close to home. the next day i took it to my local mechanic and told me that it's a costly repair at the dealership. i looked on-line to see if there are any recalls but none yet and found out by numerous on-line comments that there is a significant amount of people that have the same problem that i have encountered. the cost to get it repaired at the dealership is anywhere from $700 to $1500 and that is way out my pockets. the comments that people said the common problem is the actuator or the heater core, but a lot of them were steering more towards the actuator part that controls the door flap to get either hot or cold air. it's a manufacturer error please help me and my family along with others that are having the same problem to resolve this issue. it's our family vehicle and winter is approaching i won't be able to defrost my windshield or be able to drive it safely with the concern of it fogging up impairing my vision on the road which can endanger our lives! thank you in advance for hearing out my concern!!

Without warning the temperature blend door fails and there is no heat. this also effects the visability as the defroster does not produce and hot air and in a cold cliamte i am not able to see out of the windows. this is a safety hazard and gmc redesigned the blend door on the 2007 chevy equinox so that only the 2006 was effected. gmc certainly knows of the problem as they redesigned this part the next year. this is a widespred problem as the blend door is poorly designed as is the actuator.

Vehicle no longer blows hot air when heat is on therefore the defroster will not blow hot air as well. this is a safety hazard! if windows are fogged or iced during inclement weather you can not see and could cause an accident resulting in fatalities. i found over 500 complaints about the same problem on the internet. problem seems to be with a plastic temperature door valve (temperature blend door) that is broken. according to other customer complaints and the service dept manager at our local gm dealer, the cost to replace the faulty part is around $1300 for $50-$80 metal part. furthermore, by replacing the plastic part previously used to a metal part in the newer vehicles clearly suggest gm knew there was a problem with the crappy plastic part previously installed. this is a safety hazard and gm need to step to the plate and recall this item before someone is killed. my wife already damaged the car and took out a mailbox due to reduce visibility.

The blend door in my 2006 chevy equinox lt is broken. the knob that turns it from cold to hot is cracked and i was told by a mechanic that this piece should not have been broken and it is a manufacture defect. it is only blowing cold air. i have read many complaints online from people with the exact same issue. this is a safety issue because i can't defrost my windshield on a cold day with cold air. i have driven with fogged windows and windshield almost hitting objects on the road because i couldn't see anything. the repairs are expensive and gm needs to place a recall on this.

My car lost all heating function due to a faulty heater blend door and actuator which prevented hot air flow from coming into vehicle. this door was inside the dash console and required disassembling the entire dashboard. we were driving and unable to defrost our windshield as no heat was coming out of vents and ice/fog build up difficult to remove. the vehicle became a danger to other vehicles and pedestrians as windshield visibility was limited and blocked. dealer and gm considered this a non-safety issue and requires auto owners to repair the faulty parts.

Yesterday i got in my vehicle, turned on the heat and defrosters. i only got very cold air, the car never warmed up, the windows never defrosted, they only became foggy inside. g.m. says they have no records of this problem. the internet records over 500 incidents of the same thing happening to 2006 chevrolet equinox's. this car should be recalled and repaired, g.m. knows the part (plastic) fails because on later models they began using a metal part.

As with what i have discovered to be with hundreds of other equinox owners...with out warning or prior issues, my heater is no longer heating the air. it just blows out cold air. i have been told that it is the actuator/blend door (which is a plastic part) and that to correct it, requires the entire dash to be removed, 8+ hours of labor and upwards of $1000 in repair costs. i only have 44,000 miles on this car and should not be having this issue so early into the life/ownership of this car. i contacted gm and they are unwilling to recognize this as a problem and refused to offer any assistance to get it corrected. this is obviously a safety issue as it also prevents the defroster from working as well. temperatures have been in the teens for several weeks now which makes it dangereous to drive in the cold and snowy conditions. i have discovered several owner forums accross the internet and have found hundreds of the same complaint on this make/model. i have also since learned that gm recalled the 2010 model for the exact same reason but is ignoring the same issue on the earlier models. gm needs to be made accountable for their faulty cost cutting ways and correct this problem via a recall.

I own a 2006 chev equinox. imy problem began when i had approximately 55,000 miles on my car. this past october (2010), i noticed my heater was not working. no warm or hot air comes out of any vent or defroster at any fan speed. my car has no heat. it is impossible to defrost windows to de-ice or remove/prevent fogged windows when driving. also, i have two small children (ages 2 and 4 months) and i must have heat in the care for their care and safety. after doing research and reading 100's of complaints online about others with this same problem, i took my car to a mechanic at an authorized dealer, where they told me that the temperature door and temperature acutator were defected and would need to be replaced.. the estimated repaire cost is approximately $1500. the inability to defrost and defog the windows of this 2006 equinox is a safety hazard for myself and other drivers, causing lack of visibilty before and during vehicle operation. i recommend you look at the follwoing links to forums where numerous equinox owners have complained about this same problem with their vehicles. http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2006/chevrolet/equinox/window+defroster please investigate this problem and require gm to recall this factory defect.

Heater not working on 2006 chevy equinox causing safety and visibiilty problems. one day the ac and heat were working fine, the next day the heater would only blow cold air...no heat as well as a non-working window defroster. this began in early november. the dealership says the actuator needs to be replaced as well as the temperature door (blend door). cost is $100 for the analysis and about $1,000 for parts and labor. i have a securenet extended warranty but they say this is not covered. car is at dealership now aweaiting my approval to do the work. i am in limbo and looking for another shop who can maybe fix it cheaper. considering the hundreds if not thousands of complaints i have seen online about this, and the fact the parts were cheap and should not be breaking so soon, this needs to be recalled!

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the heating system does not work, which causes the front windshield to fog and impair her vision. the dealer was notified, but offered no assistance. the manufacture was aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unavailable. the current mileage was approximately 57,000. the failure mileage was approximately 30,000. bw

Like hundreds, maybe thousands, of other 2006 chevy equinox owners, the heater will only blow cold air out because of a faulty part that wears out and breaks after approximately 2-3 years. i have been told by the dealership that gm is refusing to issue a recall because it is not considered a safety issue, however when i am driving my kids to school in the morning and cannot see where i am driving because i can't defrost my windows, it seems to be quite a safety issue to me, not to mention the fact that my children are freezing. any length of time in the during a michigan winter we will risk hypothermia & frostbite. i have been told it is $900 to fix, which like many others i don't just have that amount of money sitting around and now have to wait awhile to get the repair made. i understand that things go wrong with cars and cars require maintenance and repairs, but this is obviously an issue with gm's design and decision to use cheap parts that wouldn't last and they should be held responsible for their poor decision.

I own a 2006 chevy equinox. a couple of months ago the heater and air conditioning stopped working. i began looking online to possibly see what might be wrong with it only to find that this was something many 2006 chevy equinox owners were experiencing. apparently it is a problem with the plastic blend door part and actuator. the total cost of parts is around $150, however the total cost of repair is in excess of $1000! the reason being is they have to disassemble the entire dashboard in order to reach this particular area of the car. i realize when owning a vehicle that issues arise and must be dealt with, but the frustrating thing here is chevy will not issue a recall nor a technical service bulletin because they say it is not a safety related issue. i tend to disagree. without being able to properly defrost and de-ice your windshield you are putting yourself in very dangerous driving conditions. it is my feeling that gm should stand behind their products better than this. one quick online search will reveal that this is a common issue for 2006 chevy equinox owners. they have sinced replaced the plastic part with what they originally used which is a metal piece. the plastic piece was choosen as a cost savings measure that in my opinion only saved gm money and not the end consumer. thank you for allowing me to file this complaint. i hope something with be done to address this issue.

I took my 2006 chevrolet equinox in for repair when my windshield defroster didn't work effectively and i discovered my heat was blowing cold air. my local chevrolet dealership charged over $1100 to replace the temperature valve actuator and the hvac door valve to correct the problem. my car had only 44,495 miles at the time of the malfunction, and when i went online, i found that many others complained of the identical problem with their 2006 equinox. i was dismayed at the cost, but was more dismayed to learn they replaced the broken plastic parts with identical plastic parts on which there is only a 12-month warranty. i learned that there has been a recall on the 2010 chevy equinox on which they replaced the plastic parts with metal parts. the 2006 equinox should also be recalled, since a defroster will not clear a windshield in winter with cold air, which is definitely a safety hazard! gm should acknowledge this problem as a safety issue on the 2006 chevy equinox and issue a recall to replace the breakable plastic parts with metal.

I own a 2006 cheverolet equinox. i had no symptoms or signs of the failure i had with my heater. no leaks or symptoms lead up to the issue- it simply stopped working. because gm (starting roughly in 2005) started manufacturing vehicles with a plastic blend door for the actuator- the heat is malfunctioning and only blows extremely cool air. this is a defnite safety issue that thousands of americans are experencing. we are unable to defraust the windows and see visibly- the only response from gm that we are getting is to roll a window down and with 3 infants in the car, this is impossible. the estimates range from 900 to 1800 to fix this part (which requires dismantling the entier dash down to the firewall) which arguably causes a domino effect of other issues to the vehicle. with no visibillity and now way to transport my infant children saftely in the winter- this should definitely be a recall that is a safety and hazard issue on multiple levels. gm refuses to recognize the problem. americans can't afford to have the car fix, but also can't afford to have no heat. there's nothing we can do and we are suffering.

Nothing caused the failure. just driving down the road and the heat quit blowing. just blows cold air now. the consequences are i can not defrost my windows and i have to drive my 6 year old handicapped son shivering in the back seat. gm knows about their defect but will not issue a recall. this is a huge safety concern for me and other drivers around me as my windows frost up driving. the part is a cheap plastic piece that gm used that is causing the temperature blend door and actuater to be faulty. to access tihis part the whole dash has to be removed, steering column and all. this should not be the owners responsibility when it is the manufactuers problem
02/01/200845000
The heater in my equinox went out at about 45,000-50,000 miles. i was unable to defrost my window and driving conditions were dangerous not only to me but also to other drivers. i was able to get the part fixed after about 1 year of driving with no heat. it cost me $1,035 and of course happened not too long after my warranty had expired.

2006 equinox suddenly began blowing only cold air, regardless of the heat/cold settings, 100% of the time. there were no noticeable events leading up to the failure. because of this failure, the defrost function is inoperative leading to reduced visibility. out of the factory warranty period, the quotes for repair range from $800 to $1800. this is not affordable at this time, and given all the other identical complaints found on the internet, i believe this to be a recall issue due to the safety hazard resulting from decreased visibility. for reference, please see these forums for additional complaints: http://www.web2carz.com/797/2006/chevrolet/equinox/reviews/overview http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/chevrolet-equinox/tnmhvcte76u9hgth4/p18 after brief browsing of these forums, you can see that this problem is nowhere near unique to mine!

The heating control on my vehicle has malfunctioned. the problem is permanent. there is no internal heat. as i live in a winter climate, the lack of heat with my blower has made defrosting my vehicle difficult to impossible. upon further research, this exact problem has been diagnosed with at least several hundred vehicles of my make and model. the problem is a heating door mechanism that controls hot and cold. a local mechanic stated that chevrolet would not provide a non-dealership the part to fix it. chevrolet fails to acknowledge this as any safety concern. the dealership is offering to repair it for $1000.

2006 chevrolet equinox. heater actuator door broke. this leads to unsafe driving conditions. windshield can't be defrosted due to lack of heat controll. 3 cold seasons use should present a recall. completely failed construction of makeup parts. this presents unsafe lack of visability while driving in cold weather.

Heat does not work, heater temperature valve has broken. can not turn heat to hot or cold. the windshield fogs up and freezes when below 32, it was a 15 hour project that will happen again in 40,000 miles if the problem is not corrected by gm.

I cannot unfog my windshield because a heater flap has broken. my car blows out only cold air because of this broken piece (as diagnosed by a gm repair station). bright sunlight shining on the fogged (and frosted because of the cold air blowing on a wet, cold windshield) windshield results in zero visibility.

The heater/defroster on my 2006 chevrolet eqinox failed to produce heat. as a result, i could not defrost my windshield while driving. i took the vehicle to a local gm dealership to diagnose the problem. the failure was due to a plastic air blend door (part# ch19130554) that is controlled by an electric actuator (part# ch15781467). the actuator is not calibrated appropriately and places excessive stress on the plastic air blend door connection. over time, the plastic breaks, disabling the door and not allowing heat to be directed into the cabin. the repair requires the removal of the dashboard, driving control consoles and steering column to access the blend door. it cost me $1,145.08 to replace and required my car to be in the repair shop for 2 days. i live in pennsylvania and needed the repair completed so i could safely drive the vehicle. i strongly believe this is a design flaw that needs to be corrected by gm before someone gets into an accident. i was lucky to discover the problem in the early fall months. i could only imagine what would have happened if it broke in the winter. since gm has yet to address the design issues, i am concerned that i will experience the same problem again. from my internet research, i have identified many others who experienced this same problem and have the same concern. some cannot afford to make the repair and are operating the vehicle without heat/defrost. i am writing in the hopes that the nhtsa can influence gm to improve the design, to extend vehicle warranties to cover the repair and to assist those whom already paid for this repair.

The blend door for the heater system does not work they crack.$ 1200.00 to repair the item as they remove the entire dashboard. we called gm and they would not offer us a penny. this is a life safety issue and the cars should be recalled. the point being how do you drive in the northeast or any cold climate and see out the windshield this went out as we were driving in snow conditions and the windshield fogged up we had to pull over off the highway as we would have had a serious accident

2006 chevy equinox - there is a defect in the heater actuator occurring on many vehicles. i didn't realize the problem until searching all the complaints on the web and talking with the dealership. the failure of the heater actuator caused only cold air to blow. this prevents warm air from being directed to the front windshield to prevent buildup of frost. depending on weather fronts passing through and time of day, this is becoming a serious safety issue for me. one would ask: why not get it fixed? i have taken this to the dealer and the relatively cheap replacement part requires $1200.00+ to have the entire dashboard removed. it is not practical in most cases to pay this amount for a simple part repair, and in most cased to complex for a do-it-yourself mechanic. hundreds of car part failures are occurring, as apparent from complaints on the web. a fatal accident is bound to happen if it hasn't already. there are some reports that gm as recognized the poorly designed part and the high potential for accidents so they are quietly trying to design a new part. this has got require a recall. *tr

2006 chevrolet equinox. no heat as the hvac temperature door is broken. part is 79.00 cad but dealer needs 8 - 10 hours to replace part. must remove dash board. car has 102,000 kms. part like this should not break and if it does, should be easlier to replace.

2006 chevy equinox many of them including mine have no heat the door breaks and the whole dash must come off to fix. i checked online and many many of this year has or had this problem. very costly to fix. should not be happening to this new of a car. why no recall of this with so many having the same problem? where to go? no heat no defrost. *tr

There is a failure in the heating blend door which causes the defrosting system to become inopperative. causing reduced visibility & obstructed view when condensation collects on the inside of the windshield also the illuminated light on the control knob have burnt out causing further inattentiveness while driving, if looking to change the setting.

I was driving on a cold morning and discovered that i could not obtain any heat or defroster action in my vehicle. from searching online i discovered this is a violation of your rule which motor vehicles must have the capability to defrost the windshield. i found that there is a recall on the 2010 chevy equinox at the present time. the module which controls the same part which failed in my vehicle has to be replaced. the end result from the module failure is the same thing which i experenced, that there is no way to defrost the windshield. i took the car to the dealer and they diagnoised the problem. the temperature control door had broken off where it is driven by the electric motor. the entire dash had to be removed to gain access to the temperature control door. i was quoted a price of $895 labor and $55 for the part. after calling gm and they investigated they offered me a discount which reduced the price to$458.40 which i paid to have the problem fixed. once the part breaks, there is no chance of defroster action. the consequences of no defrosting action in wisconsin in the winter means you cannot see where you are going and no way to rectify it temporarly. it can happen on the spur of the moment since once the control door fails you have no defrost action. i asked the dealer for the parts which were replaced and he told me that gm might ask for them. after 30 days if they don't want them i can have them.

2006 chevy equinox with 53k miles. heater door is broken. 8-9 hours of labor plus parts. i live in wyoming with -20 degree mornings during the winter. mine broke while driving 200 miles with no place to stop to get warm. if we had not had really warm cloths and blankets to bundle in we would have froze. from a safety stand point- all the covers made movement difficult. if there had been an emergency i would not have been able to move quick enough.

Blend door on 2006 chevrolet equinox has broken and does not allow heated air to be circulated through the vents -- only cold air. gm has known about this condition but refuses to fix the issue, regardless of it's countless documentations of the problem. without heat being circulated through the ventilation system it causes a serious safety hazard as fog and haze will cover the interior of the windshield and eliminate the driver's view of the road. to repair the door the entire dash of the vehicle must be removed to replace the door, totaling over $1,200 in labor.

I have a 2006 chevrolet equinox that has a broken heater blender door. approximately 1 year ago my heater just stopped working without any warning. i took it to a mechanic and they wanted $1,000+ to fix it. they said the whole dash assembly has to be removed to get to the hvac box under the dash to access the part (heater blender door). this winter i have not been able to defrost my windshield because there is no heat to defrost it. when it rains the windows fog up and i cannot see. i was told by the mechanic to use the air conditioner to defrost the windshield but it doesn't work it just makes it worse. also using the ac doesn't work when it's 32 degrees outside. i believe this is a big safety issue because the windshield cannot be defrosted which causes poor visibility and may cause an accident. this vehicle should be recalled and repaired asap. *tr

The heater on our 2006 chevy equinox went out in the middle of a road trip in the winter. we experienced visibility issues and endured cold temperatures for the balance of the trip. turn out the heater blend assembly door broke. this problem has been reported in thousands of 2006 chevy equinox and pontiac vibe models. the break happened a few months after our manufacturer's warranty had expired. gm has refused to goodwill the fix, in spite of the fact that the part is clearly defective and is a major safety issue when it breaks. *tr

As i come to find out, may people are having the same issue with the 2006 chevrolet equinox as i am. the heater will not function due to, as i was told, a failure of a plastic vent door hinge deep behind the dash. apart from the inconvenience of no heat, last night on my home it was raining and the temperature went as about 40 degrees f. when my windshield would not defrost my visibility was diminished and a narrowly avoided a major accident. i found out that there are many people who are having the same issue. i was luck last night, but its just a matter of time before someone gets hurt or killed if gm does not recall this major flaw in their design. this issue has been brought up with gm and they have designed a metal replacement part. this tells me that they are aware that there is a problem and want to take the easy way out. please log my complaint regarding this issue and urge gm to recall this car. *tr

My 06 chevy equinox blend door failed when leaving my work 2 nights ago. heat was not even on and i heard it the wall of chamber. i have 4 ase certifications. so when my heat did not work last night with my pregnant wife and 2 kids in the car. i new what the problem was. verified today that the blind door is non-responsive and yes the a/c is working fine. now since the heat does not blow and defrost does not work this is a safety and health concern. even more so one cold new jersey days/ nights. bundled up people in a vehicle causes heat buildup thus fogging the windows once you start driving. which can lead to a vary bad accident. i have also found a forum with about 140 people same issue for the known issue of temperature blend door actuator. and also just by googling the issue. like stated previously. this is a major safety and health concern. with a vehicle that only has 40,000 miles on it. *tr

I own a 2006 chevy equinox with 63000 miles on it. the blend door on the heater coil assembly broke causing my heater to stop blowing warm air. i had to have it repaired and total cost was $1079.60 as there is no service panel to access this area and the entire dashboard had to be removed in order for it to be repaired. i was told the exact same part, that apparently is defective, has not been redesigned and they had to put this same part in with no guarantee it will not break again. the broken door is about the size of a business envelope and is a piece of plastic lined with foam stripping. now i am terrified to even use the heater asi live in ohio and cannot drive my car in the winter without heat to clear the windshield. as i am past my warranty, i understand that gm is doing nothing to assist equinox owners with this problem. *tr

I have a 2006 chevrolet equinox that has a defective blend door that broke at the shaft connected to the hvac actuator. this causes the heater to blow only cold air and the defrost will not work because warm air is blocked by the defective part. i have a one year old son and this proved very dangerous for us because of both lack of heat and inability to properly defrost the drivers windshield. when the temperature drops in cold frosting situations it is hazardous for me to drive. the part can be fixed but the cost will be $1,000.00+ to replace the part. *tr

The car was parked from tuesday 8/19 until 8/23 due to tropical storm fay. on 8/24, the floorboards were soaking wet from under the dashboard to under the back seat; push on the carpet and water would just well up. the parking lot was not flooded, the windows rolled up; the seats were dry, as was all of the inside panels; so i'm not sure where the water came from. i've called chevy, they are sending me to a dealership for repairs and cleaning, as the vehicle is still under warranty. this is the first time this has occurred, i brought it with me from nevada when i moved. it has been driven through heavy rains, although never a tropical storm, and i hadn't noticed any leaking before. it did damage several items that were on the floor, and it is very musty in the car now. *tr

I was driving my child to school one morning and the heater started blowing out cold air. some time later, i took my chevy equinox to my mechanic. he said it would cost around $1,000 to repair. this was a shock because my mechanic is very reputable; i have used him for years. he never tries to cheat me or any of his other customers. when he quoted me that price, that's when i knew something was seriously wrong with my car. i don't have that kind of money - i'm a single mother of 2 kids and i was laid off from my job a few months ago. i called chevrolet 3 times and nobody would help me. in the meantime, i did some research to see if any other consumers have experienced this same problem. i found over 600 complaints from other drivers about this exact same issue. i took my car to a mechanic again and was advised that chevy/gm hasn't issued a recall for this problem (car heater blowing cold air) because it would not be cost-effective for chevy to fix it. this is a problem that chevy/gm has known about and, from what i've seen, the problem exists in chevy equinox's from all different model years. not only will i never buy a chevy again, i am filing a class-action lawsuit against chevy/gm for failing to issue a recall to fix a known problem. even if i did have the money, i should not have to pay out of pocket for something that this company knows is a problem. *tr

2006 chevrolet equinox air blend door not functioning properly and causing safety hazard. we purchased a 2006 chevrolet equinox from terry labonte chevrolet in 2006. now after approximately 4 years, there is a problem with the 'air blend door malfunctioning in the heating/cooling system causing the safety hazard of the windows remaining iced/fogged up in certain weather conditions. failing to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 103, windshield defrosting and defogging systems and with federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 101, controls and displays. i understand they have a recall on 2010 equinox models but this problem is concurrent with several year models of the gm product line including our 2006 equinox. all i can get from anyone is that we have to come in and pay $85 to get the problem diagnosed. then if it is in face the air blend door, it will cost from $1,000 to $1,500 to fix the problem. i feel that the heating/cooling system and its components (except for the heater coil) should be functional for the lifetime of the car and any malfunctioning items within should be a safety violation and that the vehicle be fixed for free. they need to recall all gm models of vehicles that have this same problem. *tr

Hvac system went out on 2006 chevrolet equinox vehicle. vehicle has 38,000 miles and was just out of warranty which was 3 years or 36,000 miles. we live in colorado springs, colorado and had major snowstorm when heater went out while driving on interstate 25. safety of driver and others were put at jeopardy due to vehicle heater failure. front windshield and windows would not defrost putting driver at risk. after getting home safely looked at internet site (topix.com) and found approximately 230 other vehicle owners with same make and model that has had the same type failure of the 2006 equinox heater system failure. there has been no recall of this problem by chevrolet putting at risk the safety of drivers of this vehicle model when chevrolet knows of the failure of the heater system. took vehicle to dealer on january 8, 2009 and explained heater failure and concern to local service manager. service manager stated that there is no vehicle recall for this failure and that the number of heater failures for this model versus sales of this model is low. costs to replace heater on vehicle was $1100 but due to my complaint. there should be a recall notice issued by chevrolet due to number of heater failures on this model of vehicle putting drivers at risk by not being able to use defroster to provide clear visibility on windshield and could result in a crash without warning. there is presently a safety recall (#090298) dated december 18,2009 nhtsa campaign id number 09v489000 for the 2010 equinox dealing with the same issue on safety and visibility issue. due to the number of failures of the heater system in the 2006 chevrolet equinox a recall should be issued for vehicle owners. owners are having to pay from $800 to $1100 dollars to have the heater system repaired so that they can safely drive in this model of vehicle during inclement weather and safely see out of the vehicle with a working defroster. this is definitely a safety issue and should be reviewed by the nhtsa. *tr

I have a 2006 chevy equinox. the heat is not functioning. the service department tells me that it is a heater blend door actuator failure. this vehicle only has 72k miles and this part shouldn't be failing already. imagine this scenario - a young couple in a remote area of north dakota in the winter. and, they have two young children in the backseat. the heater blend door actuator fails and they are 200 hundred miles from the nearest place they can stop for heat. they thought they would be alright when they left on their trip since the vehicle is only a few years old. instead, they are faced with a situation that could be fatal. gm should be forced to fix this situation on all chevy equinoxes and pontiac torrents. *tr

I own a 2006 chevrolet equinox my heater stopped blowing hot air in only blows out cold. it stopped working at 26,000 miles and my 3 year warranty expired. chevrolet says that there is no recall because it is not a safety issue. i live in new york. it is currently 30 degrees outside i have a 3 year old and a 4 year old i can not defrost my windows because i have no heat in my car. how is this not a safety issue.there are several complaints all over the internet with people owning a 2006 chevy equinox who have the same problem. it is going to cost anywhere between $1,500 to $1,800 dollars i have 2 small children i can not afford to spend that kind of money when chevy should fix the problem. thank you for your time. *tr

2006 equinox with 32,000 miles. no heat. dealer said control was bad, replaced that then said the blend door was also bad. had to replace that also. these are very expensive repairs for a 3 yr old car, just out of warranty by a couple of months. *tr

The heater in my 2006 chevy equinox does not work. it only blows cold air and the repairs are in upwards of $1200. without heat, the windows can fog up very quickly leaving me unable to see while driving, thus causing a huge safety hazard for me and others on the road. it is winter and temperatures in my area reach as low as 20 degrees, with children, this is also a safety issue. it is necessary to keep them safe and warm. it seems from others responses that this is an astronomical issue with many chevy equinox owners and we are all outraged at the lack of concern from gm to recall this issue. nothing is more important than safety with all companies, gm should not turn the other cheek to this hazard. it is better to be safe than sorry and from the people having issues, it seems a recall is past due. *tr

No events leading up to failure. the heater/defrost worked fine one day, then the next day we turned it on and it only blows cold air. the engine is not running hot, so we determined it is not the water pump. we replaced the thermostat, but that didn't work. we replenished the anti-freeze, but still no warm air. the heater is one thing, but the defrost not working is a complete safety hazard. *tr

I have a 2006 equinox. the heat just completely gave out, only blowing cold air. i took it to have it repaired and not only did my entire dash have to be removed, but it was 7+ hours of labor and $1000+ of repair. it turned out to be that the actuator was defected, and the blend door was poorly constructed. while one end was properly intact, the other looked as if it had been chewed off. chevy suggested to the mechanic that he look for suspicious objects that may have caused the damage. nothing out of the ordinary was found. it seemed to be a complete defect of the manufacturer. after beginning my research, i am noticing that my vehicle is not the only one. it's amazing how gm's excuse is that, cars mess up but i am finding that several equinox are having the same issues. there should be a recall. *tr

2006 chevy equinox. no events led up to failure i went to turn on my defrost one morning before gong to work and the heat did not work. the cost to correct the problem is b/w $1,000 and $1,500. problem has not been corrected yet as i do not have the funds at this time to fix car. will try to replace part myself. the blower works but it only puts out cold air. researched online and it seems alot of equinox owners have the same problem and says gm has redesigned part (temperature blend door actuator). gm had to realize a problem with the part design that caused it to fail, so why has no recall been issued. this is a major safety issue if you are unable to defrost your windows. poor visibility can and will result in an accident. gm needs to step up and correct the issue for their current owners. i am sure that many owners of this vehicle have children and if we have to transport them we will be placing them in a unsafe situation due to the inability to defrost windows in the winter, provide heat for them and even in the rain when the windows fog up how are you to clear the windows w/o the heating system working properly. i implore you to please investigate this problem and you will see many owners are having the same problem with their equinox and it is a safety concern! thank you! 2006 chevy equinox owner. *tr

I tried to turn on the heater to help defog my windshield during a rain storm, only to discover the heater was blowing cold air. because of the cold air, my windshield fogged up even more! this created a viability issue, and nearly resulted in a traffic accident as i attempted to exit the i-17 today (10/12/2009) i was informed by the repair shop i took my vehicle to (2006 chevrolet equinox) that the hvac air temperature blend door assembly failed. i have been informed by my repair shop and 2 chevrolet dealerships that gm has redesigned this assembly to correct the issue, and have issued a service bulletin, however they have yet to issue a recall. my repair shop is currently replacing the air temperature blend door assembly. i was quoted that this is a 9.5 hour procedure because they have to disable the dash to gain access to the assembly. if my vehicle was not under warranty, this would be a roughly a $1,200 - $1,500 repair. *tr

While driving on a cold and rainy day, my windows began to get foggy. i turned on my defrost and my windows continued to get worse. i then notice it was blowing cold air i turned the knobs to see if i had it on air conditioning instead of defrost but it was on the correct setting. i became very afraid because i couldn't see out of my windshield! i had to keep wiping off the windshield with a towel just to get to work. i then i had to repeat the same process returning home. i researched the problem and found that this common in 2006 chevy equinox there is a plastic piece that breaks after constant use(heater blend door) and it will cause the defrost to only blow either cold or hot air. i was told it would cost 800-1000 to fix or more depending who fixes it. i am so afraid to drive this car in rainy weather and soon winter will arrive. gm should really replace this part before someone dies from a faulty piece of plastic. *tr

The defrost and heating system would not work. only cold air blows from the vents. this allows the windows to fog and causes concern. it has been diagnosed as a common problem with the equinox. the flap to control the flow of outside air is controlled by a stepper motor. the motor short circuits, causing the flap to break. thus the flap is ineffective and allows for freezing or hot temperatures to flood the car. *tr
