| Defect Summary | Certain sport utility vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 208, occupant crash protection. in these vehicles, the right front passenger seat is built with a passenger sensing system. when tested with a representative unrestrained small adult, the system is required to turn the right front passenger's frontal airbag on. an error in the seat sensor calibration can cause it to fail this test. in addition, this condition can prevent the airbag from turning off when the seat is occupied by a small child. | |||||||||||||||

| The passenger air bag light on the dasboard went from an on to off status while the vehicle was in drive with an adult passenger aboard and the seatbelt fastened. we had the vehicle at the dealer, bob fisher cheverolet, reading, pa, for an inspection and oil change - and also reported this instance. my wife was called and told there was no recall effecting our vin. also that it would not react as described at that time. reference gm notice #07174 dated aug 22, 2007. the dealer stated that as our vin was not in the range recalled that they would not be able to properly fix the problem as gm would not reimburse them. so, what does constitute gm's and the dealers responsibilities when there is some sort of obvious safety problem? | |||

| First problem happened recall on spark plug boot 1 cylinder wasn't firing, was fixed under warranty as was the gasket for the hatchback was bad. that lead to a gallon or so of water into my spare tire compartment. this has since happened again and i need another gasket. the driver side window stopped working, being a electrician i found to broken wires inside rubber boot on door hinge side. abs light constantly comes on/off computer says abs needs service ( sensor problem). gas gauge is reading incorrectly, i have to use the range setting on the computer. speedometer readings incorrect sits at 60mph when the car is off. i bought this vehicle brand new and have nothing but problems, most of any vehicle i've owned. current mileage 63,000 miles. *tr | |||

| I have not had an accident, so the above date, mileage and speed are estimates. while traveling down the highway, the service airbag light came on. the passenger airbag light also went off. it later came back on. my wife was sitting in the passenger seat at the time. any time we go somewhere, this happens numerous times. i feel this is a defect in the sensor under the seat cushion in the passenger seat. i have noticed that the nhtsa has a recall on 437 units for this problem and your campaign # is 07v34400. according to the man named rob i spoke with at gm, my vehicle was not included in that recall. i feel this is a very serious problem and don't feel like my wife or either one of my children would be protected in the event of an accident where the airbag needs to deploy. it may not due to this defective sensor. i would like to know if you can offer any assistance in getting this taken care of without me having to pay for it. i am on disability income and trying to support a family of four leaves no money for such things. i feel like gm should have to cover this, since it's a defect on their part, and not mine. is there any way you could add my vehicle to the recall now that i've made you aware of it and given you the vin #? we're planning a 1,500 mile round trip on the 23rd of june to travel to our church convention and would like to have this problem rectified before making the trip, if at all possible. thanks for your time and attention. | |||

| I have not had an accident, so the above date, mileage and speed are estimates. while traveling down the highway, the service airbag light came on. the passenger airbag light also went off. it later came back on. my wife was sitting in the passenger seat at the time. any time we go somewhere, this happens numerous times. i feel this is a defect in the sensor under the seat cushion in the passenger seat. i have noticed that the nhtsa has a recall on 437 units for this problem and your campaign # is 07v34400. according to the man named rob i spoke with at gm, my vehicle was not included in that recall. i feel this is a very serious problem and don't feel like my wife or either one of my children would be protected in the event of an accident where the airbag needs to deploy. it may not due to this defective sensor. i would like to know if you can offer any assistance in getting this taken care of without me having to pay for it. i am on disability income and trying to support a family of four leaves no money for such things. i feel like gm should have to cover this, since it's a defect on their part, and not mine. is there any way you could add my vehicle to the recall now that i've made you aware of it and given you the vin #? we're planning a 1,500 mile round trip on the 23rd of june to travel to our church convention and would like to have this problem rectified before making the trip, if at all possible. thanks for your time and attention. | |||

| I had 2 chevy equinox 2007 model, loaded. first vehicle repurchased due to multiple episodes of stabilitrak failure, turn signals quit working, radio problems, passenger system airbag not working, and finally failure of main airbag system. given exact twin of first car, as thought that car was just a lemon. 2nd equinox had 2 episodes of stabilitrak failure, and a new steering column placed, and then had total system failure of the steering, brakes, gas, stabilitrak, and airbag system while driving the vehicle. i had absolutely no control over any of these systems! you could turn my steering wheel 360 degrees, and the wheels never moved, the brakes didn't work, the gas didn't work, and all alarms were going off that the systems, including the airbags were not working. luckily, no one was injured as i had just begun making a turn into roadway and all vehicles coming at me both ways were able to swerve, and the car was going slow enough and over a slight incline that it rolled to a stop just before hitting a steel light post. this car was also repurchased. something is very wrong in the engineering of this vehicle and i am concerned for all the other people owning/driving this vehicle. *tr | |||

| I have a 2007 chevrolet equinox. intermittently, the passenger air bag on/off indicator shows air bag off with a passenger in the seat. this occur with passengers weighing from 100lbs. to 200lbs. the only way i can get the air bag on indicator to work in by turning the engine off and then restarting the engine. i often must repeat this procedure six or eight time before the air bag on indicator is illuminated. the local dealer has replaced the passenger air bag module to no avail. they say that this is an isolated problem & there is no correction. this opinion was echoed during phone conversations with customer service personnel at general motors. i have been dealing with this matter, on a local level for approx. 18mos. with any progress this represents a significant safety problem for my passengers i've searched this problem on your web site & note that your records show 57 complaints for this particular auto. eleven (20%) were for the problem i've described in this complaint. i believe there is justification for a recall or other remediation. incident has been ongoing since10/08. incident date below is latest incident. *tr | |||

| Too many times to count the passenger air bag sensors have not detected various passengers in this 07 equinox. brought it to dealership 2 times including once when sensors were replaced, have complained via phone numerous times & told they couldn't fix it. called gm hotline 02/13/08 & opened a new complaint case based on this & 2 other unfixable problems. they requested 1 more chance & truck was brought in 02/25/08. 02/26/08 gm rep called & told me the dealership looked at it & involved gm engineers & that there was no fix & he needed to call the field mgr to authorize a resolution since truck could not be returned due to safety liabilities. 02/29/08 still no return call to gm from field manager. gm states to stay in rental vehicle since truck is a safety liability & should not be driven. 03/05/08 gm rep states that, although he does not agree, the field mgr stated that when a passenger is present they need to watch for the air bag off light to be illuminated & the passenger needs to wiggle around and move until it goes out. she mandated that we return the rental car immediately as gm would not pay for it & we needed to retrieve our truck since it was working as designed. unbelieving that this would actually be gm's stance especially when they have a voluntary recall out on this exact issue in this vehicle (gm recall 07174) i asked him to confirm that he was telling me to pick up the truck they had been telling me was unsafe for passengers knowing that there would be a need for passengers in the vehicle, he said that wasn't his decision & there was nothing more he could do. i have numerous pictures of the air bag off light illuminated with someone clearly in the passenger seat, dated notes documenting all contact with gm on this issue & full records of the previous repair attempts since last year. it's my belief that not only is gm recall 07174 more widespread than they are admitting but i also don't believe they can definitively fix it. *tr | |||
