Defect SummaryVehicle description: passenger vans equipped with a brake warning indicator. some of these vehicles have a power steering cooler hose that can separate from the power brake booster fluid flow switch assembly.
Consequence SummaryIf this occurs, power steering fluid could flow onto hot engine parts and an engine compartment fire could occur.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect for three screw clamps to the power steering hose joints. if the clamps are not the screw type, dealers will replace the clamps.
NotesOwner notification began april 11, 2000.owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020 or gmc at 1-800-462-8782. also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).

 Gm is conducting a recall on all subject vehicles build between may 1999 and october 14, 1999.significant changes were incorporated into production in early october 1999, and vehicles built after that date have lower warranty failure rates.the complaint and warranty data appear to support the effectiveness of these changes. gm made additional changes in november 1999, february 2000, may 2001, and february 2004.odi will continue to monitor this problem and will take further action, if warranted, in the future.for further technical details see the attached engineering analysis report.

 Dt: the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet express. recall 00v085000 concerning power assist hose, piping, and connections was issued. some vehicles were covered under the recall. he called chevrolet, and was told this vehicle was not covered under the recall due to vin. the power steering cooler hose separated from the power brake booster fluid flow switch assembly. *ak

 On a recent trip to the nc mountains, i was negotiating a curve and had a complete loss of power steering causing my vehicle to go off the road in a near wreck. the vehicle was taken to a local dealership and the power steering pump was replaced due to having a broken shaft. the service manager stated that there was a recall on this on other series of the same model, but not on my vehicle. this incident occurred without warning and could easily cause a serious accident or death. *jb
