| There are multiple issues with this vehicle and i have been ignored by both the dealer we bought it from and g.m. i have made several attempts to get these issues resolved to no avail. g.m. is doing the waiting game so i eventually get tired of complaining and stop. however the long term is i have influenced my children,nieces and nephews(all of whom are the future of consumers to purchase new vehicles) to stay away from all g.m. products after i know my family was taken advantage of by midway chev. in phx,az and by g.m.(who produced this vehicle in mx. when i asked where it was made i was told u.s.),never again will i ever buy a new car after all this. door handle breaks,brakes are bad,g.m. used the cheapest stuff to manufacture these cars and the cheapest labor in another country (taking from the american ways of supporting our own). i have several attempts to get a hold of the main number to g.m. and cannot get a direct number. i bought this car new in 2006. please help bring back my faith in american car manufacturer who was bailed out and bailed on us | |||

| The driver side door interior handle broke at approx 36.400 miles. luckily the handle was replaced under warranty. the whole driver's side door panel had to be replaced. at approximately another 36,000 miles the door handle broke again. we looked online, and there is a company that makes just the door handle to replace. we ordered a replacement handle. they said that they sell about 50-60 handles a week. there are several videos on youtube on how to replace the handle, and many companies online selling just the handle of the hhr. we have never had a interior door handle break within 3 years of owning a car, and to break a second time in another 3 years, and it appears to be a consistent problem with the design of the vehicle according to website groups, forums etc. this is a major safety concern. if the driver interior door handle fails and the driver needs to get out of the car in an emergency quickly, it's not possible. over the years of owning several different cars for many years, i have never had an interior door handle break. | |||

| We bought this car in 2011. in the first year of having our hhr, the inside door handles on the driver and passenger sides are broken. the driver side broke first and about 4 months later the passenger side broke. the rear hatch door latch went out about 6 months after buying this car. the lot where we bought it says al of the fixes are our problem. but, they add up to, to much money for us to fix. i have been researching these problems. there are way to many hhr's with the same problem not to have recalls on. why has there not been any as of yet? these problems are safety issues. they should be recalling the parts and replacing them. | |||

| After traveling back and forth from one county to another (approx 130 miles roundtrip) as i exited the fwy the car was driving normal except for i was on empty at this point. i came to a complete stop when light turned green i began to accelerate. upon acceleration at approx. 10-15mph the car made a hard jerking motion as though it was having a hard time shifting gears however my 06 hhr is an automatic. at this point i also noticed that the check engine light had now illuminated on the instrument panel. i took the car straight home and did not attempt to drive again for 3-4 days. then one day i drove it approx 15 miles all was good. i went shopping upon leaving the car still appeared to be normal. then while on the fwy approx 70mph i noticed the check engine light on again as well as the t/c light (traction control) the car continued to drive normal but once i came to a stop on the offramp and began to accelerate the jerking motion happened again. i've noticed that on a few occassions this happens once the gas is on empty. i also noticed on one occasion that once i had put a little over half a tank of gas in as well as a bottle of fuel injector cleaner that the indicator lights shut off as well as the jerking had disappears. we have had the transmission flushed and still the problem persists. aside from that when you try to remote start the engine once the check engine light has come on the remote start no longer works. you hear the electrical all come on but thats it. then all of a sudden the other night i attempt to exit my car and the driver door handle snapped right off. my husband contacted the local dealership requesting price for the part and was told $300+. i just found the piece for $63.00 online. ..unbelievable! but the handle broke so easily. i didn't pull hard. if i had the door wouldve at least popped open a lil. but it didnt budge. | |||

| Some portion of the shifter mechanism failed. it allows the vehicle to shift gears at will, with or without a key and with or without the engine running. it also allows the vehicle to be put into gear without depressing the brake pedal. the vehicle can 'bump' from 'park' into any gear and from any gear to any other gear, including reverse. while driving, one bump caused it to shift into 'neutral'. another caused a downshift. one can leave turn off the ignition & leave the car without putting it securely into 'park'. i am not positive, but i believe i could also make the steering column lock while the ignition was on. i tried this while attempting to remove the key. i did nto want to try again, fearing i would make the situation worse. additionally, the key is now retained in the ignition and can not be removed. the car can be more easily stolen. (on mine, i found out how to force the key out of the ignition. but the gear shifter can still bump around.) the mentioned crash was from exiting the car either without it being securely in 'park' or from having it fallout of 'park'. it rolled into a parked vehicle. i entered 0 mph because i wasn't there to see the car roll. it was on a small enough incline that no damage was done other than scratches. | |||

| For about a month my key kept getting stuck in the ignition but i could always get it out myself. i would shift from park to drive and then back to park to remove it. finally one day i could not remove it. i brought it to the dealership and had to have a part in the shifter replaced to fix the problem. apparently the car could no longer recognize it was in park and safe to remove the keys. the cost was $250.00 and now the key still sticks. it seems like this is a real problem and chevy should take responsibility for it. | |||

| About 4 month ago the door handle on the fron inside passanger side broke for no particular reason. there was no forse when about to open door and the handle just stayed in my hand. i called chevy dealer to see if i could just buy the handle, i was told that i would have to buy the whole panel wich was about $400.dlls with installation. i can't afford that amount on jus a plastic door handle(for some reason i always thought it was metal.) i try not to sit anybody on front inside passanger seat because i'm afraid that god forbit i get in to an accident, my front passanger would not be able to get out. i really think gm should of make the handles of metal, but since their are plastick and abiously deffected then they should of at least make the handle separated from panel so that we the buyers could buy it for a reasonable price. | |||

| I was driving my vehicle on the 401 on ramp (going 35km/hr) it was a rainy day. i randomly and all of a sudden lost power, including my power steering. no lights, no warnings, just gone. i couldn't turn the wheel to continue with the curved on ramp. i'm not that strong and without power steering i couldn't do it as well. as i wasn't able to do much i hit the break after i was already mid air from hitting the curb and going straight. i landed perpendicular on the 401. taking up all of lane 1 and part of lane 2. lucky traffic stopped before hitting my car. this was terrifying. no warning but no power and wack goodbye power steering. | |||

| It began with my key getting stuck in the ignition, would have to try to place in park multiple times to release the key. found the panel in the steering column and the release button to remove key. now the gear shift button is stuck in the pressed position, making the car vulnerable to coming out of gear. this is extremely unsafe and costly to fix. from listening to service representative at a former dealer, this is a common problem with hhr and cobalts. additional personal research has indicated this is a common and known issue with the manufacturer. this defect is unsafe and should be recalled and fixed by the manufacturer on their dime, not mine. in addition, the rotors knock and have had to be replaced. i had one replaced under warranty, they would not replace both front rotors. now the opposite is knocking and is no longer under warranty. this is also a very common problem with the cars and not something that should have to be replaced on any car with less than 50,000 miles. gm needs to own up to their mistakes and make the necessary recalls. | |||

| I have a 2006 hhr and the plastic doorhandle on the driver's side has broken off. i have to leave my car running , roll the window down, stick my hand out of the window, open the door from the outside, roll my window back up and then kill the motor. i, too, was told it would cost $400.00 to replace the door panel. this is a total ripoff!!!!!!!!!!!. gm/chevrolet or whoever manufactured this car should be ashamed for putting in a cheap piece of plastic. there should be another way to fix this without putting out $400/$500 for a broken piece of plastic! and that probably does not include tax and labor! | |||

| When i went to get out of my 2006 hhr, the front interior door handle broke off. internal parts made out of plastic. if involved in an accident you would not be able to get out of the vehicle, except to crawl across the console. this is a common known problem with this year and chevy is aware and not taking any responsibility of this faulty problem and dangerous if you were in wreck and could not get out because the handles breaking. should be a recall | |||

| I shifted my car into park but the button on the shifter did not release. because the button was stuck, i could not turn my car off nor could i remove my key. furthermore, while driving, the shifter can potentially be moved from drive to any other position without the button on the shifter being pressed. i found a release button under a cover on my steering column which allows me to turn my car off and remove my key, but that doesn't change the fact that the shifter can be moved accidentally while driving. the brake does not even have to be pressed to change the position of the shifter. | |||

| Key will not come out of the ignition when in park due to a plastic part in the shifter breaking. this will not allow the shift lock actuator to engage and release the keys. there is an ignition unlocking mechanism under the steering column but that leaves the gear shfter able to move freely from gear at all times, even while driving. this is occurs everyday. the dealer replaces at the owner's expense with the same defective part. | |||

| 2006 chevy hhr. car will jerk like you realized the clutch too fast, however it is an automatic then stall. this has happened on several occassions with in the last 2 years. on 1/27/10 the check engine light came on. took car to the shop, after having a complete tune up, ignition module change and a coil change the car will no longer stay started unless you are giving the gas pedal constant contact. the code coming up says it's a misfiring in the cylinder but the shop can not find that. there is oil in the intake but no water in the oil. i'm several hundreds of dollars in parts only already. the car is not drivable. it will not drive in reverse without heavy pressure on the gas while trying to brake with your left foot and look to drive it backwards. | |||

| 2006 chevy hhr lt, while driving at a posted speed of 45mph, daughter lost power steering sending her into the curb almost hitting another car then into the curb again. she was terrified by this incident. my husband went to pick her up and he drove the vehicle back to our house, and while on the highway at 65mph, again the power steering failed, and he almost crashed into the wall but was able to bring the vehicle to a stop within inches of crashing. the power steering light has now come on several times, and the steering has gone out while driving three times thus far. in addition the gear shift has become a problem again where it locks, and i have already had this replaced 3 times, each time lasting about a year before the problem reoccurs. i have read that several other 2006 models have been experiencing the same power steering problem, several of them resulting in accidents. are they waiting for someone to be killed before expanding the recall to include the steering on the 2006 chevy hhr? | |||

| I own a 2006 chevrolet hhr, today when i parked my car the drivers inside door handle broke and i couldn't open my door. i have found many complaints online about this problem and have searched for replacement parts. none to be found. the only solution is to replace the entire door panel at a hefty price. my concern to this matter is the fact if you get in an accident or there is a fire and the door handle breaks you can't get out of the car. therefore i feel strongly this is a defect on the part of gm since the handle is made out of plastic and can't take the stress of continous opening. apparently they have not responded to many complaints about this and i find it necessary to report this matter. this could be a major problem if someone is trapped in the car and can't get out. | |||

| I own a 2006 chevy hhr, and within the past two weeks have experienced a problem (which apparently, after looking online, several other owners have experienced). when i put my car in park, and go to turn off the ignition, it won't let me take out my key, and my steering wheel won't lock. this happens everythime that i try to turn off my car now, which is at least about ten times daily. i have to slam it into park to get the key out. i am not sure though that when this is done if my car is truly in park. i went to my car repairman, who said that this definitely needs to be looked at because if i continue to slam it in park, i could eventually break the shifter- which in my mind could definitely cause an accident/ or property damage. i am taking my car in on wednesday for this purpose, not sure yet what the cost will be, but i strongly believe that this problem should be looked at by dot. *dt | |||

| I bought a 2006 chevrolet hhr i have had several issues some that were fixed under the warranty some that happened right after the warranty expired and now the dealer i bought it from wont even talk to me about the issues cause its out of warranty most of my problems i've noticed and paid for to be fixed out of my pocket have service bulletins on but yet the dealer just keeps telling me im out of warranty and there's nothing they can do i understand being out of warranty but if there are other vehicles the same make an model having the same problems why cant mine be fixed by gm seeing as which im not the only one. my company just bought an hhr that has just a little over 6,000 miles on it and its having alot of the same problems mine is. i've been having these problems for some time now and am just getting aggravated putting so much money into repairs on a car that is not that old and only has 60,000 miles on it and then seeing that there are service bulletins on majority of the problems. im looking for some guidance on this issue. *tr | |||
