Defect SummaryVehicle description: passenger vehicles, light duty trucks, sport utility vehicles, and mini vans equipped with trw seat belt buckle assemblies. the buckle base of these seat belt assemblies were not properly heat treated and therefore do not pass the load bearing requirement of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 209, seat belt assemblies.
Consequence SummaryIn the event of a vehicle crash, the occupant may not be properly restrained.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect the vehicle's safety belt buckle assembly date codes and, if necessary, will replace any safety belt buckle assembly.

 We were involved in an accident where a car ran a stop sign and we hit them broadside with the front of our chevrolet impala at about 30 miles an hour. air bags did not deploy and the passenger side selt belt came unlatched.*ak

 Police vehicle: in pursuit of another vehicle at 40mph. both driver& passenger was properly belted. crossed railroad tracks which were raised, dugged up & paved over. driver lost control & went into a ditch, front end first. vehicle proceeded to roll end to end first & then corner to corner three (3) times. passenger in the front was ejected through door which had came open. seat belt buckle mechanism had released the belt. driver remained belted in vehicle. passenger sustained a torn ankle/ left knee/sprained shoulder & superficial cuts & bruises. driver sustained superficial cuts & bruises. *ak

 Since the repair, the consumer was unable to use a heavy duty locking clip to secure the child car seat. the impala seat belts did not lock and required a heavy duty locking clip in order to secure the seat. (model# 22-750-mgn) scc *jb
