My car would randomly turn off while driving on the streets and on the middle of the highway going 55 miles per hour, or while stopped at a light . the car would stall up to 3-4 times per day most of the time and as time went on it got worse. i replaced the fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, the battery, the fuel filter, the ignition switch, and the car still turns off in the middle of nowhere. the last time it happened was when my wife was driving to work the car stalled a few yards away from a railroad crossing (since she quit driving on expressway), luckily it didn't happen on tracks, no train was coming at that time. she had to wait approx. 25 mins for it to start after trying a few times. the next day the same thing happens but this time it didn't turn on, so she called the dealership and they sent a tow truck. the tow truck driver, when he arrived approx. an hour later, tried to start it but it didn't start either. so, when arrived at the dealership they tried starting it and by then it started. the shop manager, whom i had related this incident to was aware of the situation, so he then assigned a mech to stand by the analyzer monitor while the engine was running. they kept the engine running until it finally died on them again, while the mech was still there, i don't know how long (didn't ask). at this particular time the analyzer indicated that the crankshaft position sensor was the cause of the stall. needless to say it was replaced and is now a month later and it's running just fine. not a hint of stalling nor anything else. my concern is that anything can happen on a highway from a car that turns off randomly due to the crankshaft position sensor.

The speedometer started getting stuck about six months ago. for about eight months i have noticed that when i turn the steering wheel i hear a noise in the front of the car, like a knock or something. also within the last couple of months i have also smelled gas when i first start the car , my husband could not see any leakage or anything until last week. it was leaking from the fuel regulator valve. now the transmission is starting to shift hard sometimes. i haven't had the money to get it all checked out by the manufacturer but i was wondering if there have been any complaints on any of these things. also i can hear a whistling sound when i press the accelerator. and my husband just informed me that he bought a regulator valve for it and some o rings because something is leaking antifreeze slightly. can you help please!!!!!!!! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet impala. the contact smelled gasoline in the vehicle. the dealer stated that the fuel system regulator was leaking. she smelled gasoline for over a month and took the vehicle to a mechanic. she thought the failure had been repaired; however, the odor remained. the contact then took the vehicle to a general motors dealer and they made the repair. there is a safety recall on the vehicle, but the recall number was unknown. the powertrain was unknown as well. the current mileage was 60,899 and failure mileage was 50,000. *updated 12/12/07 *bf the dealer stated repaired trunk light. updated 12/12/07 *tr

My 2004 impala ss has had several failures of the instrument panel cluster. the first was incorrect speedometer readings that lead to total failure of the speedometer (sticking and/or erratic behavior of the speedometer needle). the second was improper fuel level indication (high level shown with low fuel light coming on - almost no fuel left). the latest is incorrect oil pressure indication. all of these are known issues with the model of stepper motor used to drive these gauges in many gm vehicles. my total cost for repair has been in excess of $300, not including the current oil pressure gauge repair (stepper motors for speedo and fuel level gauge). i plan on having all stepper motors replaced with the latest generation replacement (switec x25.168). this is something that gm needs to take responsibility for and correct as it is a very widespread issue. *tr

Vehicle has been stalling intermittently at any speed. vehicle has stalled a total of ten times. the vehicle has been taken to the local mechanic shop five times and the dealership twice but no codes were found during testing. so far i have had new plugs/wires (tune-up), new coil pack, new ignition module and new crank sensor, and new fuel filter. the vehicle completely dies at any speed. told possibility of bad fuel pump but dealership cannot be 100% certain this will fix the problem. while driving at 70-75 miles an hour the car completely shuts down. it is a miracle i have not been severely hurt or killed. problems began in may 2007 and have been ongoing since then. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet impala. the vehicle caught fire in the dashboard area and then spread to the hood. the fire occurred two to three months after the vehicle was purchased. a relative sustained injuries to the hand due to the fire. the cause of the failure was electrical. there is no fire or police report. the vehicle was repaired, but the contact does not know the specifics of the repair work. three months after the repairs were completed, the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle began vibrating when the brakes were depressed. this failure occurred while driving 20 mph or more. the brakes and the disc were replaced and aligned. the failure continued to occur and the brakes were replaced within a month. the mechanic stated that the disc failed which caused the brakes to fail. the contact detects the smell of fuel within the vehicle. the fuel gauge has failed to operate normally since the repairs were performed. the fuel gauge indicated that the fuel level was full; however, the engine shut off and there was no fuel in the vehicle. there was also the presence of fuel on the ground after adding fuel to the vehicle. the dealer has not diagnosed the cause of the fuel gage failure or the odor. the inspector stated that the vehicle may not pass inspection due to the fuel odor in the interior. although the brakes were repaired twice, the vibration continued to occur. the engine size was unknown. the contact can provide receipts for all of the repairs that were performed, including an insurance report. there is no fire or police report. the current mileage is 81,000 and failure mileage was 45,000. updated 08/15/07.*jb

The speedometer on my car has decided to read whatever it wants and it will stop at whatever speed. now the temperature gauge has started doing the same thing. this started happening around 65k miles. have found that this car has the same steppers in the instrument cluster that was on a recall for another vehicle. have also found many other complaints about speedometer going haywire. this is a severe safety issue due to not knowing how fast or slow you are going in a residential area or on the highway. *tr

While driving the car feels as if the transmission is failing, every turn you hear knocking and bumping, recently was told that the rack and pinion needs to replaced the car has only 60,000 miles. i have had it for 2 years and i have had several proplems. my ac works however only the passenger side of the heating unit works. the knock soud occurred immediately after purchase the dealer ship sad nothing was wrong with the car. i have a friend with the same vehicle and had the same issue with the knock and bumping fortunaely there car was totalled and they were not injuried at least they are no longer resonsible for this lemon. *tr
