| I have been having issues with my speedometer sticking the past few months. my husband took my car in to our local chevy dealership and was told we need to replace the instrument control panel which would cost around $600. not happy with the fact that we will have to shell out this kind of money for a faulty factory part, i contacted the chevrolet customer complaint line. i was told by the complaint line that they could not do anything for us at this time. i have read many complaints in regards to the same issues from the following link: http://www.automotiveforums.com/t752665-discuss2004_impala_speedometer_problems.html it sounds like there should have been a factory recall on this issue a long time ago. apparently it is going to take an accident or death in order for chevrolet to make this right. the government just bailed out gmc not to long ago; however, gmc can't step up and fix this. what kind of business does this to their customers. i informed chevrolet that i will no longer buy their vehicles. no wonder everyone is buying foreign these days. | |||

| Speed odometer does not display accurate miles per hour. while driving, the odometer went to about 60 mph, when i was going about 40 mph and i tried to decrease the speed by depressing the brake pedal but it remained at 60 mph. i came to a traffic light and stopped, then i noticed that the speed was at 10 mph while setting still. i asked another person to drive the car to see if the same type of thing was happening with the speed odometer, and it was. the vehicle was taken to the dealership. the mechanic said he reset the odometer and said if that did not work, a part will need to be replaced. that worked about two weeks, and the same thing started all over again. i am afraid to drive the vehicle because i can not tell how fast i am driving. which poses a safety hazard. | |||

| My wife got into a wreak because chevy has not recalled these issues. my 2004 impala abs brakes mafunctioned along with my traction control , she tried to stop at a stop sign and the brake pedal kicked up and would not let her stop she removed her foot from the brake and tried pressing the pedal back down and it kicked up kicking in the abs and traction control not allowing her to stop and she ran into a snow bank but my insurance paid for the body work but not the mechanical problems i replaced both hubs on the front, quit doing it for a week or so and then when i drive it the traction control and abs kicks in while im driving down the road. now my speedometer, tachometer and temp guage are not workin at 0 rpm my car is doing 90 mph as it sits in my garage not starting because my key will not turn to start it my steering wheel will not lock and because i cant turn my key i can not put my car in neutral to push it out of my garage so i can get it towed i have read so many issues on these and other gm models i am suprised that there was no recalls when i called had this car for 4 years and nothing but problems and money so as my car sits in my garage as it will till these items get recalled i am not putting anymore money in this car i will drive my 98 infiniti that i have had for almost 10 years because i know its dependable. never again gm will you get another cent from me i have never had this many problems with any car. | |||

| The speedometer on my car has stopped functioning correctly. the needle will no longer return to 0mph after coming to a stop, and will only reduce speed if i repeatedly shut off and start my car. the only way to know my speed is to see where the needle is before driving, but i have noticed that sometimes while driving the needle will not reduce speed even then and i have to come to a complete stop to know how to gauge my speed. i was shocked to learn that this is not already a recall. this is a potentially dangerous problem, but mostly it is irratating and inconvenient. i had this problem diagnosed and the part itself is over $400, and the repair would take a week. my family has always bought gm vehicles and i am disappointed after reading the many complaints online that this problem has not been taken care of by the manufacter. | |||

| I drive a chevy 2004 impala. when driving my car, the speedometer begin to act randomly. i was able to clock my speed using my gps. my car said i was doing 70 miles per hour, but i was really doing 30 mp/h. now, the speedometer does not work at all. it constantly says i'm doing 0 mp/h. this is a serious issue. the dealership wanted $700 dollars to fix a deadly defect in their own car. many impala drivers have this issue and gm has failed to recall this product. | |||

| I own a 2004 chevrolet impala sedan which has 123,551 miles on it. i bought it with 108,000. i discovered after i bought it that my speedometer cluster was acting up. i could reset it by turn the key on and off til it reached 0 and both the water temp gauge and speedometer would work for a day or so. now, only the speedometer works by resetting and the water gauge never works. i have seen may other impala complaints for the same reason. they did a recall on the trucks but not on impalas. i feel this should be a recall. 2nd problem. transmission shop diagnosed and replace valve body. still did same jumping in and out of gear so replace again. still does it. was told by another transmission shop who drove my car that it may be control module. it never does it when i take to a transmission shop but my mechanic got it to do it on fri. and said he thought it could either be speedometer cluster related or may a control module. it is an interminent problem and have had since i bought car in dec. 09. another friend said he bought a new 08 and it did same thing. no one ever found out why., | |||

| While driving a consistant speed, speedometer will fluctuate from stuck at zero to 120mph. happens constantly. fuel guage fluctuates also and doesn't always work. if using cruise control while speed appears correct, the impala will automatically increase its own speed while the speedometer does not change leaving an unsafe opportunity open for very tragic accidents to happen. i cannot beleive that my 2010 pontiac vibe has had 3 recalls and this impala has not had any for the instrument panel. do people really have to die or be injured before something is done to protect us? | |||

| The speedometer started getting stuck about six months ago. for about eight months i have noticed that when i turn the steering wheel i hear a noise in the front of the car, like a knock or something. also within the last couple of months i have also smelled gas when i first start the car , my husband could not see any leakage or anything until last week. it was leaking from the fuel regulator valve. now the transmission is starting to shift hard sometimes. i haven't had the money to get it all checked out by the manufacturer but i was wondering if there have been any complaints on any of these things. also i can hear a whistling sound when i press the accelerator. and my husband just informed me that he bought a regulator valve for it and some o rings because something is leaking antifreeze slightly. can you help please!!!!!!!! *tr | |||

| We bought an impala chevrolet 2004 new in 2004. there were a few problems with it. instrument panel cluster -and speedometer gauge did not work and noises came from the instrument panel. steering gear popped/clanking noise heard and sensed from front end. also, seemed like something was wrong with the transmission because it did not change gears correctly, and it kind of bumped when accelerating, appeared as if engine did not want to accelerate. there was a delayed start, may be necessary to hold key in start several seconds until starting or turning back and trying again. sometimes key locked in and won't turn. took to dealer, but it did not do it for them. *ak on the steering gear the steering intermediate shaft was replaced on 11/19/05. again the noise was back and on 07/17/07 the steering intermediate shaft was lubricated. on other issues repairs are to costly. do not feel secure on vehicle these problems have been going on for the past two years. | |||

| On september 27, 2005 i rented a chevrolet impala from avis on w 76th st in new york city. while sitting stopped at a stop light later that day in hartford, ct, the car suddenly accelerated for about 2 seconds with what appeared to be full throttle into the car directly in front of it while full brake pressure was being applied. about one second went by and it happened once more, striking the car in front of us. since there was such a small distance between the cars the car was not able to reach a high speed, but there was a strong jolt when striking the other car. after turning the car off and inspecting for damage none was found to either vehicle but in other circumstances this could have been much more dangerous. i called avis roadside assistance and requested that a car be brought to me because i was afraid to drive the car any more. i was told that if the car was drivable i had to bring it to an avis location myself. later that night, i drove the vehicle to the avis location at the bradley airport in hartford and the car accelerated suddenly again. thankfully there was no car in front of me. i returned the car and was given an exchange.*jb | |||

| Dt: consumer complained about acceleration problems. the vehicle accelerated even though the foot was off the accelerator pedal. this happened 5 times in the past years. the accelerator only did this when the car was running for over 30 minutes. previously, the engine could run for over 2 hours before this would happen. the car was in the shop 3 times, and the dealer had not been able to find the cause of the problem. dealer performed a diagnostic test. but this did not lead to any information. they cruise control module was replaced after testing was done. the dealer suggested that consumer bring the car i when this problem occurred. consumer contacted gm. they would document the claim and the vehicle 's history and that was all they could do. consumer took the vehicle to 2 dealerships, and neither could find the cause of the problem.*ak | |||

| Interstate driving using cruise control. cruise control disabled when braking for an exit but left in the on position on the dimmer switch. cruise control automatically resumes and the cruise light comes on without using the accel or resume button on the steering wheel. applied the brake immediately and the cruise control disabled itself. i no longer leave the cruise control switch in the on position unless using. will make appointment with dealer service to correct safety hazard. *jb | |||
