| I was driving home one night and my car said i was doing 120 mph. when i was at a complete it still read 75 mph. we replaced the speed sensor twice thinking this may be the problem, but it was not. i can get it back to 0 by turning the car on and off until it hits 0. this kept doing this so i took it to the dealership where i purched the vehicle and they stated it was a cluster in the dash going out. i have two childern who are in this car with me alot and do alot of night time driving and when this goes out is not the best feeling of safety. i have a 2005 chevy impala | |||

| Tl-the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet impala. while driving approximately 50-55 mph he noticed that the speedometer was not working properly. he stated the speedometer shows incorrect readings. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the dealer advised him they could perform a diagnostic. the contact did not see the purpose of a diagnostic for a failure he was already aware of. the vehicle has not been repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 73,000 and the current mileage was 88,000. vwb | |||

| With 92,000 miles on my 2005 impala the tachometer is working strangely, and now frozen at 6,100 rpms. i fear the entire gauge package will fail. the speedometer is starting to seem impacted now too. the internet is full of complaints on this issue, but gm will not recall? please help. we have owned this car since new, and cared for it well. it is in great shape and we love it. but now gauges? help!! thank you. | |||

| Speedometer not working , sometimes it will read 80mph stopped & not running. or you could be going 50 & acctuall y going 80 & get a ticket , this has happen to us 5 or 6 times within the last 2 weeks, i have read a lot of othewr people with the same problem. my car has less than 85, 000 miles. do we not make quality cars & trucks in the good old u.s.a. ??? maybe i should have bought a kia with 100, 0000 miles waranty bumper to bumper ? thank-u for u time | |||

| 2005 chevorlet impala: the speedometer gains/drops speed at any given time without warning causing miscalculation of speed during travel. at first, the speedometer returned to the original state, however, after resetting the cruise control function, the unit failed to register speed properly. it has affected the maintenance and performance of the vehicle. ultimately, the rpm and speedometer gauges, cease to work properly and the car tends to skip between automatic gear shifts. also, i received a traffic ticket in the state of nc due to the speedometer malfunction. in order to fix this problem for my vehicle, 2005 chevorlet impala (mileage: 103,117k), the insturment cluster has to be uninstalled from the vehicle, rebuilt, and reinstalled back into the vehicle according to my dealer and a licensed mechanic. this repair on average ranges $400-$800 (www.carcomplaints.com). according to research, speedometer failure is a common but expensive problem among 2000-2006 chevorlet models. | |||

| Over the past 6 months my speedometer on my 2005 chevy impala has not been working correctly. the speedometer will say that i am going 20 mph on the interstate when i am actually going 60 mph or faster. the speedometer will be at 0 mph when in town driving. i have no idea how fast i am going. the speedometer is not working 90% of the time. | |||

| My wife and two children were riding in our 2005 chevrolet impala and it suddenly started accelerating uncontrollably. my wife called 911 and told them that she couldn't get the car to stop and the brakes seemed to be locked. the car went uncontrollably for about 3/4 mile, and reached speeds over 90 mph. she ended up putting the car in neutral to get it to slow down even though the engine was still accelerating. we had it towed to a chevy dealer, but they didn't find anything wrong with it. if my wife wouldn't have thought to put the car in neutral, my entire family very possibly could have died. very scary incident!! *tr | |||

| Our complaint is about gm's unwillingness to recall 2005 chevy impala's for the speedometer instrument cluster (stepper motor) issue. apparently, they've recalled the trucks but not the cars. that's totally unacceptable. i have to pay $500 to get this fixed and they are aware of the issue but, now my vehicle has over 70,000 miles which is also a problem-i don't understand why this would matter - broken is broken. anything you can do to help to get this recalled with no mileage restrictions would be greatly appreciated. *tr | |||

| Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet impala. while driving less than 70 mph, the vehicle would not decelerate when the brake pedal was depressed. the contact continued to pump the brakes until the vehicle eventually slowed down. periodically, while traveling in residential areas or areas where the speed limit is less than 55 mph, the vehicle will accelerate on its own. the contact would remove his foot from the accelerator pedal and the vehicle acted as if it were stuck in cruise control. the dealer believed that the cruise control may be the cause of the failure. the failure and current mileages were less than 92,500. updated 11/12/08 *bf updated 11/13/08. *jb | |||

| 2005 chevrolet impala jumped out of park and rolled backwards. *mr the impact caused the garage door to pop open and crash back down and trapping the consumer inside of the garage. the consumer suggested that gm should take responsibility for the defective vehicle. the vehicle also stalled when shifting to reverse from park, the vehicle hesitated to start therefore the consumer had to hold the key from several seconds while the starter attempted to turn over and the vehicle continued to grind. *sc | |||
