Very similiar to gm recall no. 03023, nhtsa campaign number: 03v159000. the windshield wipers fail to operate on random intermitten occasions. this failure occurs randomly and without any leading indicators. the failure occurs in the event when functionality of the wipers are most needed and hence it effects the visibility of the driver during inclement weather. there seems to be a short in the in the wiper circuit module due to crack/structure failure of the pcb (printed circuit board). there has been a recall on this same issue however on the same vehicle but only known failure vin, not all vehicles.

Windshield wipers and washer intermittently would not work. it started out the washer wouldn't always work and then the wipers followed suit. the first time my wipers didn't work my visibility dropped significantly and it was a dangerous drive home. i looked up this problem on the nhtsa website and saw that there is a recall on this problem. my vehicle did not get recalled. other models in my year were recalled and my model in previous years were recalled. chevy dealership wanted to charge me $175 to replace the wiper motor circuit board. i removed the board cleaned it re-soldered it and reinstalled in 30 minutes. everything works great now. *jb

Windshield wipers stopped working without warning vin 1gcek19w1ve153879, with 89,000 miles 1997 chevy k1500 truck the purchase date and incident date are approximate. we have had several failures. this is intermittent, i checked the fuse box and it is fine. i have read of this complaint on several chevy vehicles of the model year. my vin is not covered under the current recall and in my opinion should be. *jb

On oct 6, 2005, i was driving my 1997 chevrolet k1500 ext cab truck in a rain storm when the wipers just stopped. i found that there was a safety recall issued # 03v159000 for this same problem in 2003. when i contacted the chevrolet dealership they requested my vin number and then told me my vehicle was not effected by this safety recall. i then contacted chevrolet and they told me my vehicle was not effected by this safety recall even though it might have the same wiper motor part number. they then went on to say that they sent out a bulletin that included my vehicle which stated something to the effect if failure occurs before 7 years or 70,000 miles we will replace it. since my vehicle is a 1997 and it currently has 73,000 miles on it and no longer qualifies as a candidate for this repair. please keep in mind the hazard still exists! chevrolet is also still replacing/repair this particular problem on other vehicles which might exceed the 7 year or 70,000 mile cutoff. this makes no sense to me since my vehicle has the exact same issue as these other vehicles. *jb
While driving in wet weather, vehicles' windshield wipers either hesitates to work or quit working, or don't work at all. this results in driver having poor visibility, which almost caused an accident. the dealership indicated that they have to replace the wiper module, and also this is a very common problem with this make/model vehicle. please provide more details. ts

Dt: when consumers vehicle gets wet the windshield wipers quit working. 1997 chevrolet k1500 pickup with 33000 miles. vehicle started experiencing this problem about six months ago with 32,000 miles on it. consumer bought vehicle on 10-14 1997, vehicle was never in a wreck, nor had any body work been done on it. consumer first noticed problem when he was washing vehicle in driveway and went to turn on the windshield wipers to find that they would not work. consumer contacted manufacturer on july 20, 2005. manufacturer stated that they could not find that this problem was covered by anything due to age of vehicle. consumer said that he had heard that this was a problem on these vehicles with windshield wipers not working due to circuit board. he heard that vehicle could be fixed for free if fitted in a certain time frame. his vehicle did not fit in this time frame because it did not show when manufacturer was fixing this problem . consumer just wanted this to be on record. he stated that manufacturer had a problem ,and he would hate for someone to loose his/her life because of it.*ak

In rain storms or in good weather go to put the windshield wipers on and they just make a noise (like it is shorting out). it is not repeatable all the time. one minute they don't work, then the next minute they do! this condition happens once every so often. but when it is raining, it creates a hazardous condition.*ak

The windshield wipers on the chevrolet silverado i own will suddenly quit working leading to very poor visibility. they will work fine for the first 15-20 minutes while it is raining and then suddenly quit making it very dangerous to drive. i have noticed other recalls for vehicles very similar to mine regarding a cracked solder joints on the controller circuit board for the windshield wipers. i called chevrolet and they said there was no recall. *nm
