I just spent over 2k replacing all of my brake lines with stainless steel the way the factory should have done it originally on my 1999 chevy silverado. my mechanic almost hit the bay door when the brake pedal went to the floor as the rusted brake line blew out. the local gm dealer that replaced the lines had another chevy in with the same problem and said they are getting 1 to 2 per week with the same, exact problem! i was lucky i wasn't driving on the interstate when the line blew out. someone is going to be killed and gm needs to do a recall. *tr

I have a 1999 chevy silverado k1500 extended cab. i bought it in the summer of 2002. by january of 2003, i began having trouble with the abs kicking in when is was slowing down to a stop. the roads were not wet or slippery and i almost went into traffic several times (i have also almost hit a parked car pulling in a parking space, and almost went over a steep embankment since then). i paid over $300 in february 2003 to have them fixed and that lasted until february of 2004. when i almost went over the steep embankment at my local grocery store when i was pulling into a parking space, i decided to pull the fuse. the only problem with this is that you don't have cruise any longer. i finally decided i had to get it fixed because we wanted the cruise feature so i got it fixed in december of 2004. by that time, the chevrolet dealers are finding out there is a problem and they just need to clean out the sensor which now costs about $75 (the dealership i bought the truck from wouldn't even admit there was a problem). the big problem is that i do not know when they will give me problems again and i am still a little afraid to drive my truck. i have 2 young children and i would hate to be in an accident and hurt them because of something that chevy knows about and refuses to deal with. i have been checking online, and i have noticed a lot of people are having the same problem. this is a serious problem that needs to be addressed before someone loses their life over it.

Rear main brake line failure due to extreme rusting condition. this line is located along the driver side upper chassis rail. further inspection of all brake lines resulted in a very rusted condition.

Brake line failure in the front wheel circuit. metal brake line burst and brake pedal went to the floor. luckily it was a secondary road and i was able to use the e-brake to stop. i ended up replacing all the brake lines because the rear lines were heavily rusted and crumbling apart as well.

My 1999 chevy c/k pickup fails to stop quickly when traveling at low speeds. the abs turns on preventing the vehicle from stopping as you apply extreme pressure to the brake pedal. i am told by two separate mechanics that this is a common problem on similar models which have been recalled (nhtsa campaign # 05v379000) when contacting chevrolet they say their is nothing they can do as the recall does not include my vehicle by vin number even if it is the same part with the problem. *tr

Dt: the consumer stated that the anti lock brakes were activating at low speeds. the vehicle was taken to the dealership, and they cleaned the front hubs of rust. then the abs worked properly, but the abs and brake light would come on. the vehicle was taken back to the dealership, and they found that there was an internal electrical failure in the brake control module. they performed nhtsa recall 05v379000 repairs. when driving the vehicle off of the lot it almost hit another car. the vehicle was taken back to the service department and they disconnected the fuse for the abs and the abs light stayed on. the vehicle would not pass inspection. the consumer contacted gm and they stated that the problem was not related to the recall and the consumer would have to pay for repairs out of pocket. *ak (12/01/05) the tow haul mode was inoperative. *sc

Parked my 1999 chevrolet k pickup at a store and just before i turned the engine off, the abs light came on. when the ignition was off, there was a grinding noise from under the vehicle. apparently the abs module was still running. i crawled under the vehicle and unplugged it. when i took it to my gm mechanic, he told me that the ebcm shorted out and apparently happens frequently to this model. it cost me $781 for the part plus labor of $202.50. i was unimpressed, especially to find out that there has been so much problem with this and that there is no recall for it. can you help? isn't this a safety issue? my vehicle only has 50496 miles on it.*ak

Abs pump went out, luckly i had an extended warranty and only had to pay $100.00 instead of $800.00. also many other trucks in the area with same problem. had klunking noise in rear end carried to two different dealer ships and could not find anything. sounded like transmission was playing catch up with rearend. three months after warranty goes out it does the same thing and bust the gears in transmission. motor sounds like it is knocking when you first crank it up. the dealerships around are quick to sell you a car but will not stand behind you when there are problems. this will probally be my last chevy!!! *jb

My 1999 chevrolet 1500 z71 has had numerous abs failures. a few very close calls. the dealer or mechanic haven't heard of a recall. i understand that the abs module is telling the system that one wheel is slowing down as if a skid erroneously which activates the abs taking the driver out of the equation. sombodys going to die. please forward any info to the e-mail address i listed . thank you. *ak

After turning vehicle off, abs motor continued to run. contacted dealer who took fuse out. consumer now does not have abs on vehicle.*ak consumer feels the part failed too soon. consumer was informed that the abs motor won't shut off unless the fuse is pulled or the battery runs down. there is a chance of fire and the brakes are inoperable when failure occurs. *jg

The abs pump started running when i started the truck the only way to get it to stop is to pull the fuse. the power window on driverside will go down a little then stop, you have to keep pushing on the button to get it all the way down which takes a lot of time, same way when you go to put it back up. the throttle sticks when you go to accelerate, did it a little new now does it a lot. i have contacted gm they said that the truck is to old know for them to do anything about it. i have heard that other owners have had the same problems but theres occured while under warranty
Abs brake light illuminated due to a mechanism within abs brake motor that continued to run, causing system to become inoperable. please give any further details.*ak

I have a 1999 chevy silverado, walked out started truck and the abs module failed and ran constantly as with thousands of other chevy truck owner have done as well, this is a shame. gm needs to own up to their mistakes and take care of this problem. this is a very dangerous situation now having abs in a snowbound state, also what if this module failed going down the road in a braking situation when it was needed? this is going to cause a lot of collisions. this is a faulty part put onto he trucks by gm to try and save money, seems funny that the abs modules prior to the 1999 models have no issues with them what so ever. come on gm step up to your mistakes. *jb

The abs modual on my 1999 k1500 chevyrolet truck has gone bad. the pump stays on at all times, unless you pull out the fuse for the abs. by disconnecting the fuse, the abs brakes are disabled for the truck. this also leaves the abs light and brake light in the dash on. the replacement for this part is around $1000. this appears to be a fairly common problem on this model truck.my father is haveing the same luck with his 1999 k2500. note that the dealer recommended fix, short of replacing the unit, is pulling out the fuse. *ak

Abs computer failed in my 1999 chevrolet k1500 silverado pickup. the module makes a continuous noise like a small engine running even with the key removed from the ignition. the only way to stop the noise is to disconnect the battery or remove the abs 60 amp fuse. dealer informs me the part costs $875.00 in checking with used parts shops i found this part is in very high demand -- much greater than they can supply. one used parts dealer told me they had 18 requests this year alone. the chevrolet dealer hesitatingly admitted they replace lots of these. with the fuse removed the vehicle is drivable but without the abs function. the dash board does have indicators constantly lit for brakes and abs. *jb

Last fall i reported to nhtsa that a solid brake line tubing failed on my 1999 silverado which i lost braking power which almost caused me to go over the side of the mountain just before kingwoo wv. i had this repair done a the chevy dealer in nearby oakland md named team one. no response was received from nhtsa. wednesday this past week i was heading for clarksburg vamc when the second ridged brake line cracked as the first. again i almost lost the vehicle as i was gong down hill just outside kingwood and almost lost the truck over the mountain. again i got it this time to joe romeos chevy dealer where i purchased the truck. same findings as the first and they reiterated that this was normal wear and tear and my extended warranty would not cover it, but i stated how can lines that should have been stainless steel or rust resistant that fail be excluded from the warranty? i asked this of gm last week and all i got was a beat around the bush answer and they would not pay. this leaves me with over $400 in repair bills i have to pay. my truck has been at the latest dealer for almost a week now with hopes of getting it back today. this what i call inferior parts but my electric wheel chair that is in back of the vehicle i do have use of. chailes r levy,of crl and assoc motorcycle safety consultant. also i mentioned the dealer has knowledge of others that they broke in same manor as mine. *jb
