The preliminary evaulation is being upgraded.during the ea odi will limitits investigation to only those vehicles equipped with a hydro-boost system, which provides power assist to the braking and steering sytems.vaccuum brake booster vehicles are excluded.odi hasexpanded the scope of the ea to include model years2003 and 2004, asduring the pe, odi learned that the hydroboast pumps were modified in febraury 2004.therefore,odi has expanded the scope to include the additional model years.odi's is concerned because thisisa sudden failure that affects two critical systems of the vehicle, brakes and steering, at the same time.the ability of the operator to handle the dual failures is a concern. further, these vehicles tend to be work vehicles, with some over 10,000 pounds gvwr and many equipped to pull large trailers.dual failures of heavily loaded vehicles and vehicles pulling trailers further increases the safety risk.odi plans to conduct testing to quantify the braking and steering performance degradation and the impact on safe vehicle control, when a hydroboast pump fails.

Gm is conducting a recall on all subject vehicles build between may 1999 and october 14, 1999.significant changes were incorporated into production in early october 1999, and vehicles built after that date have lower warranty failure rates.the complaint and warranty data appear to support the effectiveness of these changes. gm made additional changes in november 1999, february 2000, may 2001, and february 2004.odi will continue to monitor this problem and will take further action, if warranted, in the future.for further technical details see the attached engineering analysis report.

Steel brake line ruptured while braking going down a steep hill with approximately 1,000# of cargo. this is the third such incident of a ruptured/leaking line on this truck. all lines were original equipment before failure. brake pads/discs were replaced and rotors machined between the first and second brake line failure. the emergency brake was used to successfully stop the vehicle. *tr

Purchased a used 200 chevrolet silverado k2500 4wd. the anti lock brakes activate at 7mph while stopping. it occurs at every stop. the dealer replaced the speed sensors per the recall which did not solve the problem. the dealer tested the vehicle after the fix and found it still failing. now gm won't do anything more and my truck still has faulty anti lock brakes. *tr

My 2000 chevrolet k2500 silverado has 60,000 miles. the rear brakes do not function as designed. the interior brake pad, on the disc breaks, only come in contact with the rotor for 1/2 of an inch or less. i couldn't figure out why my anti-lock brakes engaged all the time and i think it is because an undue amount of braking pressure is placed on the front disc brakes as the rear brakes are clearly not engaging properly. i had midas review the brakes and they claim this is common. the rotors have to be replaced because all they do is rust since the brake pad hardly touches the rotor. i called my dealership who also said this is common. have there been any investigations into chevy truck accidents and how the brakes function? do chevy truck owners even realize their 5,000-6,000 pound trucks, often used for towing, are not stopping as they were designed to stop? why hasn't there been a recall? who can i have inspect my brakes to confirm this common brake defect before i have them replaced? *tr

Dt: the contact stated t when applying brake pressure at low speeds the abs activated followed by a squeaking noise. he took the vehicle to a dealer, who cleaned the wheel speed sensors. there was a recall on the anti lock brakes, but the contact did not live in a salt belt state. however, the vehicle experienced the same problem as indicated in the recall. no further repairs or corrections have been made. *ak 11/29/2005 - *nm

My son rear ended a semi-tractor trailer truck in a snow storm last week. he was wearing his seat belt. air temps previous week were in the -20 to -40 range. temperature at time of accident was -15. i raise this as indicated below. *ak my concerns are: 1. the air bag did not deploy. there was $6000 damage to our 2004 chevy k2500 crew cab pick-up to include grill, radiator, both quarter panels, hood, bumper and forward engine components. the impact speed was estimated at 25 mph. that should have deployed the bag. i realize that there were no injuries and my insurance would have covered the bag, but i think (as did everyone else who have seen the damage) that the bag should have deployed. 2. abs system failed. truck rear end slid to right toward traffic. my son was able to regain control. choice of impact was either into on coming traffic, off road down deep hill into forest or rear end truck. note: other owners in area of the 1999-2000 pick-up series have also had abs system failed. local dealers are aware of failure around 100,000 mile mark but say that it is normal. abs light is now on. side note - we have had repeated problems with this vehicle and have taken it to different dealers. problems include ongoing short in electrical system in cold weather, 4 wheel drive fails to disengage although light on dash says it has (discovered at local repair shop), computer failure on dealer installed equipment (not covered under warranty because it was an option).

My 2000 chevrolet silverado k2500 , vin 1gcgk29u9yz195436, purchased in december 1999, had a hydraulic power, loss resulting in immediate loss of power steering and brakes. i was able to secure the vechicle and call a tow truck and towed to delership. nhtsa has a recall 05v-005000 for this model and year, however it does not cover my vin. contacted gm to see if they would repair this under the recall and they refused. it appears there are more vechicles with faulty power steering pumps than the recall covers. request you review this recall. the pump will be replaced and i will request the removed parts be saved for me. *ak
