I ws driving at about 35 mph when i heard a noise like i went over a bump or pothole. then i felt a pulling to the right, like a flat tire,so i immediately pulled into a parking lot. when i stopped and looked under the front passenger wheel, it looked like something was falling. i got back into the car and tried to move it further into the lot, and there was a noise and it would not move. when i got out, the front engine cradle had fallen to the ground. in addition, the steering wheel no longer worked. at first look, the tow truck driver and my mechanic thought that the engine cradle bolts had broken, but when the mechanic went to fix it, he found that the entire engine cradle had rotted out and had fallen. it was replaced along with the engine mounts, tie rods, and front upper motor mount. if i had not pulled into the parking lot, i would have been involved in a serious accident. initially, it was reported to chevy that the engine mounts had broken. we will be sending them a letter with pictures of what happened when the pictures are developed. this is a very serious problem. it is not something that would be apparent unless a mechanic was aware that there could be a problem and checked the engine cradle regularly. *ak

This is the second time it happened. the first time was on december 2, 1997. the dealer never admitted what the problem was, but i paid a $500 fee. they did not tell me that there was a recall on the work. i found out afterwards but the service manager at that time told me it was not the same problem as the recall. he refused the reimbursement. i was almost in a serious accident due to problem. i lost all power in the middle of the intersection. when i called the dealer rick pulled my file and said it was not the same problem. he did not have the car to look at because it had not been towed there yet. i'm really shaken up and afraid that i'm going to get a hassle from jefferson chevrolet. in additon, i want my money back from previously. *ak

After part failed, contacted riverside chevrolet in tulsa oklahoma. they ran my vin but nothing came up. the safety campaign in 1997. neither riverside nor the main gm center know exactly when the bolts were changed, if in fact they were.one of the bolts backed all the way out while the other was sheared in half. gms' roadside assistance said all parts are guaranteed for12 months. right now there is only one bolt in the cradle. i could not afford to have my mechanic drill and retap the other side. i thought gm would fix my vehicle and remburse me for the towing and repairs up to that point. luckily i was one a straight stretch of highway when this happened thank you richard dorrough
