Defect SummaryVehicle description: passenger vehicles and mini vans originally sold or currently registered in the following states: connecticut, illinois, indiana, maine, massachusetts, michigan, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont and wisconsin. the rear cradle bolts pull through the retainers due to corrosion of the retainer. if both bolts pull through, the rear cradle would not longer be supported at these mounting locations and the steering intermediate shaft can separate from the steering gear.
Consequence SummaryIf this were to occur while the vehicle was in motion, a vehicle crash could result.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the rear cradle bolts and retainers.

 The rear cradle bolts snapped while the consumer was driving. the cradle bolts were on recall for rusting and breaking in other states but not in the consumer's state. *yh
 While driving 30-35 heard a noise. pulled over and checked under vehicle. then, began to drive and without warning column dropped off. mechanic stated that engine cradle bolts rusted. dealer and manufacturer have been notified. there is a recall 97v058000 concerning rear engine cradle bolts; however, consumers vehicle not affected due to vin. *ak

 Recall 97 v 058 000/ rear cradle bolts: rear cradle bolts retainer failed on both sides, snapping steering wheel column while driving, and causing loss of steering control. believed this was due to corrision. dealer was notified, and unwilling to assist in this matter because this vehicle not covered under recall due to vin. *ak

 Vehicle experienced power steering leak, dealer replaced the rack and pinion, consumer was also informed that the power steering cooler was missing. *slc also upon inspection consumer was informed that the sub frame was rotted out and was advised the vehicle is unsafe to operate. *jg *jb

 Both the front driver's side and passenger side handles fell off the doors. yh
 Out side door handles keeps breaking on both sides of the vehicle. consumer has repaired it himself, and hasn't taken vehicle to the dealer because they will charge too much money for repairs. consumer has to get in through the sliding door . inside handles work. *ak
 Consume rcannot open the sliding door from the inside of vehicle. the handle has been broken for almost two years. the van was purchaased used, and the problem was not reported to the dealer. please provide any further information. *ak

 Consumer had replaced the brake system, including the rotors/shoes, etc. she is complaining that when stepping on the brakes pedal, the brakes don't work properly. it is also impossible for the family to get inside or outside of the vehicle using the door handles. finally, the seat belts are not securing the passengers where a person had secured the seat with a screw driver. *ak

 Driver's side inside door handle failed twice. each time it has been because of plastic door handle inside of door totally breaking. could pose a hazard in case of an accident. *ak

 While the consumer was pulling into his driveway he heard aloud bang. the driver immediately lost steering control and the steering wheel turned 360 degrees non stop. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer who determined that the subframe rusted which caused the engine and rack and pinion to collapse to the ground. *ak *nlm

 While driving 10-15 mph consumer heard a clunk, steering felt tight, then spun freely. mechanic determined subframe assembly bolts snapped off on both sides, causing steering wheel to become detached.*ak

 While changing front disc pads a piece of rubber was noticed hanging, further investigation found the rear subframe mount missing the washer and allowing a gap of aprox 1/2 inch between frame members, while looking through internet for imformation on filures ofthis part i found recall investigation 97v0058000 which discussed alleged subframe //insulator failure which resulted in recall 97v058000. the vechicle was purchased andoriginally registered in michigan which according to recall is the basis for the recall issued. upon contacting numbers given for gm i was told that vechicle was not under recall, this does not seem correct, all gm stated was vechile was not under warrenty please advise
 Consumer is having a problem with this vehicle that concerns a recall, and this vehicle was not included, the front subframe mount broke, causing the engine to collapse to the ground while consumer was driving. dealer has been contacted. *ak
