Passlock sensor theft system, i beleive this was a huge mistake for the gm company. as a owner of the 1999 chevy malibu, and exper. the problem many times. i have reveiwed many complaints on the internet about this part as it keeps the vehicle from starting and is a very expensive part to replace. it is dangerous as well as a incovenience to many....it can take up to ten minutes for the passlock sensor to reset in which case parents may have to leave there children in the cold or reverse in the heat which could be dangerous to infants or toddlers.. many people replace the part for hundreds of dollars and in return it defects again. it causes people to be late for very important appointments such as docters visits or even the case of (work). i beleive the gm company should evaluate the part and try to come up with a solution. many people are talking about this part in which it should be recalled. as a owner of this vehicle i forsee a very big lawsuit coming about in result of injury due to the sensor not working properly. it causes more problems with the owner than it does with theives that is sopposed to be working against.

I bought this car from a private owner not a dealership. the only problem it had when we bought it was the fuel gauge did not work. now almost a year later i have multiple problems. the worst is while driving down the road at 65 mph my car just shuts off, no warning, the steering locks up and this happened with my 2 children in the car it was very scary. then while sitting at a red light when i got ready to drive it died on me again. each time i have had to pull over, sit for a few minutes, then try to restart and it usual does until dec. 2. it died and now it will not start. it will crank, the fuel pump is working and i have spark. other problems: while checking oil one day i leaned against car and it shocked me; brake lights work when they want to; cannot lock doors from drivers side; coolant has to be refilled every week (no leaks have been found); trunk is not wanting to open with button or key; radio/antenna gets 1 station; a/c worked when we got it and apparently the diode or something went bad but you cannot buy just the diode. i am tired of all of these problems and have read many others like these. my main concern is the car dieing while driving down road and locking everything up.

The passlock system, in my 1999 chevy malibu, fails on a regular basis. probably 1 out of 10 starts the passlock system prevents the engine from starting, and i need to wait 10 minutes before i can try it again; often, the 2nd try also requires waiting ten minutes. this is deeply frustrating on its own, but is dangerous when i need my car to start: for example, when it is late at night, or when my surroundings are potentially dangerous, or when i urgently need to get somewhere (hospital in an emergency!). i have read online that this is a problem that afflicts many owners of gm cars with the passlock system installed. this warrants a recall, or at least should require that gm provide alternative ignition mechanisms that do not have passlock systems installed.

The turn signals work only once in a while, more often they do not work. the vehicle was puchased in 12/2009, the problem began later in 12/2009. with our extended warranty we took it back to where we purchased it, after 8 hours, they said they think they found the problem and corrected it. two weeks later, the same problem began again and is still a problem. it is illegal to drive without turn signals and extremely dangerous. we were not told of the part put onto the car, but we did see them take a part off of another car to put into ours.
