The problems that i have had with this vehicle are all too similar to the problems others on here are having especially with the theft security system not letting the car start if the security light starts to blinking after fail attempt to start the vehicle , does someone have to get hurt or killed before you all correct this problem. i have also had to replace the wheel hub assembly on this vehicle more times than normal in a short time frame.i feel that this shouldnt be our problem to pay for if it is gm f**k up.i am mad and pissed to say the least. all of these complaints and no reactions. sad not living up to standards . when obama was bailing your a** out he should of let you just stay a** out. i am disgraced by this outrage. ill never buy a heavy chevy again. toyota here i come. at least yall honor recalls. :( late for work ,late taking kids to school ,late for dr appt. ,tickets for obstructing traffic. by the way gm great theft security system fail it seems like the only feature thats getting you a lot of publicity. not !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The truth is all i want is my safety and my problem is very serious +the problem is listed under the nhtsa defect investigation# ea02037 and recall# 03v327000 with dates of recall from feb 1st 2000 - may 31 2001 my vehicle was manufactured in oklahoma in april 2000 however calling gm a representative of gm named jessica informed me that my gm is not on the recall list after 30 min of trying to figure out why i asked for a supervisor named teresa whom was not in the office and is supposed to call back and then i asked for that person supervisor presumably the manager and i was told i could not speak to that person and when i asked for that persons name i was told that the managers it was against company policy to give out the managers name and also against company policy to give out any last names furthermore i was given incorrect information about the manufacturing plant of my vehicle. i believe i should have my car on the recall list if i fit the description accurately and fall in between the correct dates it is a very serious safety hazard and could become fatal if not fixed very soon

Pertaining to general motors product recall #03043a dated march 2004. this recall addresses a problem that exists in the 2000 chevrolet malibu vehicles, vin #y6226571 to #y6352520. these vehicles have a condition in which solder joints in the hazard warning flasher switch may crack. if cracking occurs, it may cause the audibled flasher indicator, visual flasher indicator in the instrument cluster, turn signals, and the hazard warning flashers to work intermittently of not at all. if the turn signals or hazard warning flashers are not working, others may react more slowly to a turning or stopped vehicle and a crash could occur. in my case the turn signals and warning flasher were working intermittently. but, the vin on my 2000 malibu does not fall into the stated vin range my compliant is: if this condition is important enough to warrant a recall, why does it only apply to 2000 chevrolet malibu

2000 chevrolet malibu , bought the car in 2005. the anti-theft light comes on and car won't crank, or a few minutes down the road if it does crank it stalls looses all power ,and then won't crank for about 30 minutes later if not i might have to beat with my hand on the dash just under the ignition switch for all power to regain its self. this problem started back in 2008, but my husband got it doing right again after about a month of tapping the computer part of the switch from the inside of the dash with a screw driver handle every time he went to crank it. it did fine up until recently , about somewhere in february of 2011, it started doing it again, dealership can seem to tell me nothing, they have no idea even after running it on a computer over night, all because the computer they said can't find anything, how dumb. i am poor, can't afford another car. i love my malibu apart from what it is doing to me, i have 2 kids, small kids, they are with me 24/7 and the car will just die on me leaving me to use all ,y strength and power to steer and stop the car on to the side of the road. to top it off my air isn't working anymore, and being stuck like that in the heat from this state of alabama, is not fun or healthy for my 2 kids or me. i just want it to work like it is supposed to . i can't afford to pay over 300 dollars for a switch and i don't even know if that is the problem, my car surges, and no one can seem to tell me a straight answer , but what i do know is i am not the only one with this problem. and someone needs to fix it now.before something bad happens, what if it dies on me like that and it will at high speeds ,and someone not paying attention runs me and my 2 kids over. please i am begging you, i don't want a new car, i just want my problem that seems to be very common fixed.

The anti-theft ignition lock device malfunctions every day, 3 or more times in most cases, you have to wait 10 minutes to attempt to start the car again and even then it may not start and you have to wait 10 more minutes, now its not a crash your car through a building and kill people type of problem but it is a sit in your car in a terrible neighborhood and pray you dont get raped, murdered, robbed, etc problem. i recently was working in inner city baltimore and was required to park my car on greenmount avenue, which is the worst of the worst and sometimes it would take me an hour to start my car!!!!!!!!! this is utterly ridiculous and this is the reason nobody wants to buy american made cars anymore!!!!!! take responsibility gm!!!!!!!!!! i shouldnt have to pay $300+ to get this issue fixed. gm should pay for it and also remove this device from all of thier vehicles. it was obviously not a well thought out theft deterrent. and further more there are several other issues on my vehicle that i have been told are notorious on these cars. the whole entire brand should fall under the lemon law. i want some satisfaction, they need to do a recall for this. it is the ignition lock cylinder and housing assembly and i currently dont have the money to get it fixed, and i may never have the money seeing as how it constantly makes me late for work and i may lose my job because of it! way to go chevy-thumbs up!

I have a 2000 chevy malibu ls in which the anti theft system does not allow me to operate my car properly. i will try to start my car and go somewhere and it wont start for ten to fifteen minutes. i live inwi where it can get very hot and extremely cold. i also have a child under the age of two who is with me in my vehicle on a regular basis. i have called gm and complained about this issue and i am told that they cant do anything because this is not a saftey issue. this is a saftey issue. if it is below freezing out side and i have my baby in the car with me and have to wait for ten of fifteen mins for it to hopefully start my child or i could get very sick. not to mention sitting in a hot car for that time waiting for the fake light to go off so that i can start it with they key that is supposed to go with the car but yet the car thinks im trying to steal it. and another one if im traveleing and stop to get gas at night and i have to pay at the pump and turn the car off, cuz thats what your supposed to do while fueling, then it doesnt want to start again im stranded at an unopened gas station who knows where with my young child and myself at night in the freezing cold or very hot temps. why again is this not a saftey issue? this problem needs to be fixed. and we should not have to pay for it to be done either. 400 to 800 to try to fix a problem that gm should recall. and it isnt even guarenteed to not happen again. why is it that gm wont recall this issue that i have seen tons and tons of complaints about? is it because gm doesnt know a solution to this problem? well gm u better figure one out or u will most likely be loosing a lot of customers. i certiantly wont buy another gm car if they wont take responsibility for the issues that they are having with these cars now. gm should stand by their product and fix the issues that consumers are having with their cars. this is definately a saftey issue who are you kidding? fix this problem!!!!

I have a 2000 chevy malibu. it has something called the passlock system or theft system and it prevents the car from starting. it prevents the car from starting all the time. this isn't the first time you have received this complaint i bet. i have put an extra $2000 into the car after i brought it hoping it would fix it but i still have the problem. i have read on-line and everyone who owns a 96 and up gm car has this problem. everyone says gm doesn't care about this problem and they won't fix it. they say this is the only way to get them to fix it. if we complain on here. please make them fix this problem with their cars because you would save over 1,000,000 people time and frustration. no joke, literally 1,000,000 people have this problem. this is why they went bankrupt. gm sucks. this is why america sucks as a nation. we have to complain on here to fix our problems. no offense to you. i don't have enough money to by another car, as most people with this problem. please do the right thing and make gm fix it. i know it is not the american way to give the people what they want but maybe this time we can make an exception. please help all of us who would love to buy a different car but don't have the money. thank you.

Turn signals inoperable. flasher inoperable. this makes it impossible to alert other drivers of intent to turn or change lanes causing a dangerous situation. i was told there has already been a recall by the cheverolet representative. the recall was for the turn signals and hazard switch and both have been replaced by a previous owner at 70000 mi. under the previous recall. i am now having the same problem at 172000 mi. and was told it is now not their resposibility.

I own a 2000 chevy malibu and the theft deterrent system is not working properly. a lot of the time the car will not start and while you are driving the call will stall and die. it will shut off and random times. you can be driving down the highway at 65 miles an hour and you loose power. this is a very dangerous situation and i know that gm knows about this problem and has failed to come up with a fix for it. it is up to you to force gm to put out a fix for this and protect the consumers of their products. please help keep me and my family safe. thank you.

The car was running fine, then about a week ago the turn signals stopped working. this is also effecting my hazard lights. it happens intermittently. this is occurring daily. *cn

The blinkers of my 2000 chevy malibu turn off randomly and i don't know it until i go to make a turn which can absolutely result in a crash. it also affects my passenger side window and rear passenger brakelights which will not come on though the bulbs are new. i looked into recalls and there was indeed a recall regarding this exact problem stating the hazard light switch overheats and melts and then disrupts the electrical system specifically affecting this part of my car. when i called the manufacturer they told me that i was five days late to have the part fixed. being that i only bought this car in march of this year, 2009, i should have received a recall notice so that this could have been fixed, but received no such information in the mail and am unable to afford to fix this very dangerous problem. also, when i go to start my car, it will randomly turn on the theft system light and not allow the car to start. on investigation apparently, the chevy malibu comes with the passkey system and despite that the company knows that it is faulty they will do nothing to fix it. though it is their fault they just told me to replace the key cylinder which is not definite to work, or to spray graphite powder in it to help with connection but that overall it is my problem. why is it that i have a car that was bought in running condition that will kill itself randomly and that is my problem when it is a manufacturers defect!? i can never know when or when not my car will start and have missed work and other important events. and in case of an emergency there is a possibility that it will not start! or that i could be trapped in a dangerous situation because my car simply decides that the key that is supposed to start it and is linked to it will not work. this is truly unacceptable and not right for chevy to think that we should just deal with a car that is broken though not the consumers fault and all of the options they give for fixing it are not definite. *tr

2000 chevy malibu anti theft would keep car from starting for no reason. i could follow the gm's fix for this by waiting 10 minutes and than the car would start. we have dealt with this problem for a couple of years and the dealer has told us they can find nothing wrong.it has progressed to where you now are able to start the car but it will shut the engine off within a minute. this has happened 4 times in the last 2 days. this happened once to my wife when she was driving on the road the engine just shut off creating the possibility of an accident. *tr

Theft system/passlock. daily this is triggered preventing me from starting my vehicle for ten minutes. i have a highly special needs child and it's critical that my vehicle gets me to him or takes him where he needs to go. i've always been late for work several times, and most recently today i left work early from being sick and rendered unable to start the car, twice. i don't need the theft system, i can't afford a 'possible' fix and from everyone i've spoken to- nothing has worked to fix their issues. i think this should be recalled to have this fixed, taken out (if there's a way) or give us a trade in! my car is paid for, i can't afford to go get a new one! *tr

Recurring problem with a theft system error. in cold weather, the theft system disables the vehicle for 10 minutes, then maybe will allow car to start. there are numerous complaints on auto forums regarding this exact issue. each year for the last 4 we have issues with the car not starting. this is related to a pass lock system in this vehicle. this vehicle does not have an alarm, not remote starter. *tr

I have a 2000 chevy malibu. as many malibu owners my car has the same issues. blower fan doesn't work on setting 1 and 2, rear speakers don't work in cold weather, rear tail lights don't always work, weird braking issues in the cold, and air circulation button changes from closed to open automatically. these are just some electrical issues with the car and i think i found the root cause. the windshield rubber seal on my car was unattached from the window outside at the bottom on the passenger side. i found out because after a heavy rain a lot of water was showing on the floor of the passenger side. the water damages has been happening for years. i found water sitting in the plastic molding right under the blower fan. water corroding the electrical cables on the floor. water tracks over the computer board located under the glove box. i've informed chevrolet and ask for them to create a tsb but they denied my request.*jb

Hazard and turn signal works intermittently, i found that a recall on my make of car was issued in 2003, parts no available till 2004, due to losing my home in hurricane ivan my mail was messed up for quite some time, i am having this problem and would like to know if it would be covered. we replaced bulbs and fuses but problem still there, i can tap or hold the hazard button and turn signals will work for a moment. this is a 2000 malibu with appr. 74,000 miles. all warranty work and oil changes has always been kept up, i would like to know if my car falls in the recall. *nm

I have already filed complaint in regards to the hazard light recall, which for some reason does not cover my 2000 malibu. i noticed other complaints on the malibu and figured i would throw my two cents in. i to have had to drop over $1000 dollars into the most defective car i have purchased this includes the $200 piece of junks i bought when i was a teenager. my list of problems. 1. coolant system leak cost $700 note: mechanic laughed and said this happens all the time is this type of engine. in reviewing other complaints, the one really stands out. nice i am glad gm owns up to its problems. 2. brakes constantly need to be replaced well below mileage. glad gm saved a few bucks under sizing the rotors. 3. within a year the fans switch (levels 1,2) and lighter stopped working. boy gm is saving lots money now. 4. within the past year i had fuel pump failure, nothing like traveling in rush hour traffic doing 75mph and car totally dieing. boy gm has made one quality car. 5. the last insult, my first and likely last gm product is when i thought boy i finally get something from gm in regards to one small defect, the hazard switch, i find out that my vehicle is not covered by this recall. wow not only i am out at least $1000 bucks on piece of crap product, gm does not even want to give a bone to hungry man. with this type of product it is no wonder gm is losing market share faster than any other automotive company. keep up the good work gm. clearly the are some serious defects with this vehicle and the gm

We unfortunately own a 2000 chevy malibu. we have already replaced the rotors several times for going out of round. we have also replaced the fuel pump at less then 50,000 miles at the cost of $728.00. the air conditioner pops on and off on its own not cooling for the most part. the turn signals are nonfunctional and our vin number is not included in the recall although it should be. then there is the transmission slipping and the coolant leaking and the car overheating we are told this is a manifold intake gasket and will cost around 800.00 to fix. the newest problem is the factory installed radio tuner is burned out and now we have to replace the radio costing yet another $100.00 dollars or so this car has nickel and dimed us too much. after looking over your site i found these to be numerous complaints on the same year and model. i feel this car was a lemon across the board not just ours but, all 2000 malibu's. please look into these cars on a whole they were very badly manufactured and we all deserve some compensation for it. *jb

Intermittently when the brake pedal was applied, the brakes grabbed so hard that the entire vehicle vibrated severely. when this occurred, the vehicle failed to stop immediately. this resulted in extended stopping distance. the brake rotors warped. on one occasion this failure caused lost of control, in which the consumer almost crashed into an 18 wheeler, but was able to pull over to the medium. the dealership has acknowledged that there was a problem with the braking system, but was unable to correct the problem, and was now refusing to work on the vehicle. *ak there was a rattle under the hood at the firewall area while the vehicle was in motion, the hose assembly was found rubbing under the vehicle, both front rotors had wore thin, the fuel pump sender did not hold the correct amount of fuel pressure, there was an open circuit in the 24x crank sensor, there was a rattle in the front suspension due to weak front lower control arms which were noisy (the right lower control arm was replaced), the coolant level sensor shorted, the water pump assembly leaked coolant, there was a vibration at highway speeds, hardware was bad and was loose in the caliper, rotor pulsation which was replaced per bulletin, the turn signal was inoperative, and the a/c had internal damage and would cut on and off. *sc

While driving and/or attempting to use the turn signal, a short in the flasher switch made the turn signal inoperative and made other electrical components inoperative (ex. gauges, radio and a/c fan). the electrical problem also caused the engine to stall. when the consumer pushed the flasher switch repeatedly the electrical components would work temporarily. the fuel pump was replaced to alleviate the stalling condition. the technician has identified a problem in the flasher switch but has not replaced it. a recall on the switch is scheduled to start later in 2004 however the consumer's vehicle is not included in the recall due to vin. *ak *nm

I bought this car brand new (had 4 miles on it) in august of 2000. within a month, the a/c motor had to be replaced. within 6 months the engine began to surge, and felt like it was going to stall whenever at a stop. during this same period of time, the brakes began pulsating, and i replaced them on my own. i have not had an issue with them since. then this year, 2003, it completely died on me while doing 70 in rush hour traffic on the freeway in san diego. my whole family was in the car, and we could have been killed. i couldn't even turn on the flashers to let other drivers know we were in trouble. obviously, the power steering went out, and we had to cross three lanes of traffic, solely propelled by our existing momentum, without the ability to steer. i am beginning the process of trying to assess what the issue is, though i am sure it is the alternator. the battery was tested, and diagnosed as perfect, other than needing a full recharging (it was drained by another component). once i determine what is wrong, i intend to go to chevy, and harass them until they fix it. then, i am going to try and enter into arbitration, and hopefully get rid of the car altogether. if anyone has the solution to the stalling problem, please email me ! mjaramillo @ excite . com *jb

I too, have many of the problems that other malibu owners have. my turn signals work intermittently, the brakes have been replaced 2x, in addition to rotors, etc. the battery blew up, but was replaced as was the ac turning off and on by itself. the one issue that is very concerning to me, is one familiar to you. my car cuts off at anytime while driving. it has done this to me on 2 separate occasions. nashville has 3 interstates running through it and i was on them both times this happened. it was very scary and dangerous. it is out of warranty and the shops that i have taken it to cannot replicate the problem. the mechanics at then shops told me that malibu's are by far some of the most troublesome cars on the road today. someone is going to be killed. you lose control and have no steering ability, what does it take to fix the problem. i can see from others that their problems are being ignored as well. when will gm acknowledge the problem. don't they watch the news and see what happened with the firestone recall, or the tobacco companies that kept secrets? it is time for someone to be responsible for their product. *nlm

Front/rear suspension-squawking noise -gm well aware of this issue hazard lights - have gone out twice. fuel integrity - erratic fuel reading - shows 1/4 tank - when in reality there is no gas. i have ran out of gas approximately 7 times - several times late at night. no cruise control - gm would not repair. brakes pads/rotors - have replaced 3 times. my local dealer rotolo chevrolet and gm customer service would do nothing. it was expensive. premature tire wear - two sets of tires. cars runs hot - would never go on a trip - because it would get too near overheating. i was afraid of getting stranded in the middle of the desert. engine ticking noise - local dealer said this was normal. now, i find none of these things were normal and many, many more car owners have experienced the same type of problems. also, i had a battery that exploded while car was under warranty. it was my problem. dealership would not replace battery. i finally had enough and turned this automobile back to gmac. is it going to take people getting killed to make gm responsible for these issues with the 2000 malibu. all of these problems were reported to the dealer, but since nothing could be duplicated, even though gm was aware of these issues, they would do nothing. after the car was out of warranty, the dealership was more than willing to correct these issues. the problem i have is the deception.....gm is aware of these issues and have been for some time. someone needs to hold then accountable. *jb

My car is only 3 1/2 yrs. old, but, i'm having problems with it that i shouldn't be having. last summer, i had to have my battery and surrounding wires & hoses replaced due to a corroded cable which had leaked acid everywhere--luckily under warranty. now, my intake valve gasket is ruined, so antifreeze leaks out constantly and the car is perpetually on the verge of running hot. i have to constantly add antifreeze and water to keep it from overheating, although, it still smells overheated all the time. it will cost me between $900-$1100 to repair the problem, even though the part only costs $150 due to the labor involved in removing the top of the engine to get to the gasket. since the warranty has already run out, i'll have to foot the bill myself. i don't appreciate this because i shouldn't be having this problem with this car at this time, nor do i feel that it is my responsibility to fix it. the dealer or manufacturer should foot the bill since the car is so young and there is no way that i caused this problem. *ak

3 months after i bought malibu in july, 2000 i was driving at 65 mph when my care lost all power. dealer told me that there was something wrong with the fuel indicator wiring and was falsely reading the amount of gas i had which resulted in my running out of gas at 65mph. problem has not repeated itself. at 21,000 miles my signal indicator lights failed and my hazard switch had to be replaced. at 23,000 miles my evaporator vent valve had to be replace (engine light remained on constantly). at 20,000 miles my car was vibrating whenever my brakes were applied. dealor said front brakes worn out and rotors out of round and they replaced the front brakes and refaced the rotors. at 33,000 miles, care again vitrated whenver brakes applied and dealer told me again that it was not under warranty and was happening because of hot spots and that my rotors needed to be cut even though they had just been fixed at 20,000 miles. was never told that manufacturer was having a problem with malibu brakes and was told it would cost approxiamtely $700.00 to fix rotors and it was my responsibility. my sevice for the brakes was done at future chevrolet in old bridge, nj. *ak

Luckily i have not had any accidents with my 2000 chevy malibu. one of the most common problems with this make and model of vehicle is that the ignition lock cylinder and ignition lock switch malfunctions. this causes the car to not want to start, and while driving, the car will stop in the middle of the road. i personally have been stranded in the middle of intersections because of this problem. this is very unsafe, and very expensive to fix. i took my car into the chevy dealer to have it looked at, and it cost me $553.55 to fix this one problem, and now my lights do not want to work. *nm

My 2000 chevy malibu at least once a week or more will not start and the anti-theft system light comes on. after waiting 10 minutes for the light to go off, it will usually start the second time around. this has been going on for a year, but recently the car wouldn't start after numerous 10-minute delays. after paying out $94 for labor i was told it couldn't be fixed and to look for a recall. i have found no recall but many, many people with the same problem. i am a single woman and i have been sitting in far too many parking lots, all times of day and night waiting for my car to realize that it is not being stolen by me, the one with the key. i have no expertise in this matter and cannot afford to pay out labor charges only to be told that there's no way to fix it. i continue to drive it this way never knowing when i'll be stuck for 10 minutes or much longer as happened recently. since i feel i need a car that will start much more than i need an anti-theft system why can't this thing just be completely disabled so i don't live in constant fear? *tr

In hot and humid or wet weather, my 2000 chevy malibu's passlock system goes into fail safe/standby mode when i attempt to start the vehicle which renders my vehicle unable to start for a minimum of 10 minutes. this has left me innumerable times stranded for 10 minutes in rather dangerous locations such as ill-lighted parking lots after dark. the frequency of these failures recently began to increase, so i researched information about the possibility of disabling the anti-theft system that fails to do little more than cause a headache for my mechanics. to my dismay, i found that chevy's passlock system cannot be overridden by any method short of a do-it-yourself re-wiring project. to have the problem fixed temporarily, i could have the entire ignition system replaced by chevrolet for somewhere in the neighborhood of $450. note that i said temporary because from the stories of those who have had the repair done, it will need to be done again a few years later as the ignition wears down once more. i am also concerned by stories i hear about further problems that drivers have had with the passlock system where the car engine turns itself off while being driven and requires that the driver pull over to restart the vehicle. i hope this never happens to me. given that this has been happening to every model of car that has had this passlock system in place since passlock's inception, i am surprised that there have been no recalls made by chevrolet in almost 10 years. it would seem that chevrolet is more interested in profiting from continually repairing a system that we could just get rid of and not in the safety of its consumers. therefore, i ask that you please mandate a recall on all chevrolet's with the passlock anti-theft system. *tr

I have a 2000 chevy malibu that has had a number of problems with turn signals and general other safety related concerns. now on multiple occurances the car will not start with the oem key and wireless controller. the theft system light turns on sporadically leaving me unable to start the car... the car cranks but the theft system disables the car from turning over or fully starting. i have sent the car into the shop several times where they were unable to replicate the problem. now they finally pinned down the issue and are requesting over $800 to replace the ingition module. i have read enough about this issue on forums and the auto repair (non-dealership) has admitted to fixing this problem on many mailbu's prior to mine. i have been stranded several times, incurred over $375 in towing and auto shop expenses...

The car began locking up with the theft system light blinking. the car will not crank until you waited 10 minutes for it to stop blinking. this can happen two or three times in a row, at least once a day. i have been told there is no way to fix it.*ak

Gm passlock (anti-theft) feature malfunctions while starting a warm engine. engine almost never fails to start when either the engine is hot or the engine is cold. recently, i have had to abandon a 2000 malibu on two occasions for failure to start after multiple 10 minute waits and come back the next day to start the car. failure of the engine to start could result in injuries or death depending on the situation and location. consider an elderly person that has to abandon their vehicle on the side of a rural road at night and have to walk a long distance in extremely cold weather. *jb

My car will not start when the theft security light comes on. this is dangerous since i am a single parent and become stranded with my children inside the car with me or have to pick my children up and they have to wait alone outside because i am so late. today, my car has not started for over one hour. it is still sitting in the parking lot unable to start because of the security theft system. i wish this would be recalled, and hope that people don't have to start dying for it to be recalled. looking online about this problem, i have noticed that there are thousands of complaints filed on forums. i believe that if everyone knew the proper channel to complain to, that this problem would no longer exist. my abs light comes on everyday. i have had the sensor leads changed twice and it still comes on. my air conditioning was fine until this summer when i needed it. are these cars now designed to break down and be unreliable just so that the dealers can charge money for diagnostics and mechanical repair? i am so frustrated and hope that you can see how dangerous this can be. i bought this car because i wanted a reliable, dependable vehicle for myself and children, what will it take to recall this problem? will i receive acknowledgement of receipt of this complaint. i thank you in advance for your time and consideration to this very urgent matter. there was a recall on the hazard switch because it didn't always work, it didn't always allow for the turn signals to work either. i doubt that there were any deaths from this problem, and it was recalled. does someone have to die in an accident as a result of a problem with a vehicle before it will be recalled. please send me any additional information you may have about who to file additional complaints with so that i can direct my concerns to other state or federal agencies as well. *jb

Upon starting the 2000 chevy malibu, the power windows wouldn't work, the fuel gauge read as empty, the gear indicator didn't light up. this problem continued for up to 2 minutes, then everything would come on. the service vehicle soon light would come on intermittently and eventually the check engine light came on. we took it to a certified mechanic who determined that a faulty ignition switch was the cause of the problem. *tr

At approx. 10,000 miles, the engine would stop without warning or trouble lights. at night, the headlights would still be on when the tachometer dropped to zero. it would be triggered by bumps in the road. dad, 88, was worried. known problem with this car which has dash mounted ignition switch but never recalled. detent in switch is poor. with minor wear, a large amount of keys causes the switch to move approx. 1/8 inch counterclockwise, shutting the car without any dash light indication. new switches are not improved. you can only have one key on chain so as not to disturb the switch rotation due to the poor detent exact date of first service not available. car is on the third switch. *jb

The turn signal becomes inoperative. when the hazard warning switch is pushed, the turn signal recovers for a few minutes. there is a previous recall for this years model for the same problem. chevrolet will not repair my car, because the car is not within the stated vin released for recall.

I have been having problems with my hazard lights as well as turning signals. they have been replaced since the last recall, but have went out again. i also have been having problems with my fuel line, such as my vehicle not wanting to accelerate, it seems that it idles at a intersection light with the rpm's going up to the 2 or 3 then acting as if it wants to shut off. i had the fuel line replaced not even thirty days after purchasing the vehicle. i purchased the vehicle jan of 2000, and i did see some investigation concerning the fuel line months prior to the purchase. my vehicle stopped on the side of the highway, and my vehicle was towed to a chevorlet dealer outside of lansing near lake odessa. i at that time was not charged for this fuel pump which they did try to charge but because it happened within the thirty days they replaced the fuel pump at no charge. i do see on this site that this vehicle a 2000 chevy malibu has been investigated due to fuel problems so i hoping this was looked into properly and brought to the surface once again because my pump was changed in 2000 and has been giving me problem since 2002. i have had tune-ups, transmission changed, routine oil changes, fuel line cleaned, diagnosis ran, and the results are nothing i'm hoping to get to the bottom of this before taking any documentation to a lawyer concerning a matter that has been brought to the surface but nothing done about it. also i've took this vehicle back to the dealer where it was purchased and they can't find anything wrong with it. the question they ask is whether the check engine light has come on or not. i have all sensors checked out and that not the problem, but my gas leaves fast and i have a hard time accelerating on the residential streets as well as the high way. i also have been having to change the fuses in order for my horn and cigarette lighter to work. so someone please look into this because it's getting worse. thanks for your time and consideration. *nm

While driving, vehicle was hesitant after stopping, transmission would begin to shift every 4 seconds, dealer stated that a piece of metal from the front pump of the transmission had come off and sent pieces of metal circulating through the entire transmission, consumer was told that since the transmission was sealed that it was not anticipated that the metal pieces would affect the other systems of the vehicle, dealer made repairs and one mile down the road transmission began acting poorly again, consumer took back to dealer who stated that transmission was stuck in second gear, dealer replaced transmission. oxygen sensor failed. rotors warped and were causing vibration, dealer replaced pads and rotors. battery leaked acid into engine compartment. coolant cap was defective and replaced. *slc
