I have a 2001 chevy malibu. the theft system keeps coming on and prevents my car from starting. this has been going off and on over the last 3 years. this time i happened to be driving the car when it shut down. my door locks won't function properly because of this. i do not have the money to take this in to get repaired just for this to go out again. i had it done when i first purchased the car now it needs fixed again. gm needs to do a recall on the passlock sensor. there are alot of people that are having this problem and you would think by now that gm would do a recall to fix this problem. *tr

On at least 10 occasions over the past 10 years when attempting to start the vehicle the anti-theft passlock system will activate for no apparent reason, which disables the ability to start the engine by cutting off the fuel. if i turn the ignition key to on position and wait for 10 minutes, then turn the key to the off position and then attempt to start the engine it will startup successfully. this is very annoying and potentially dangerous when it happens while parked in dark parking lots late at night or operating the vehicle in very cold weather. this problem has been reported by tens of thousands of gm owners over the past several years. why hasn't gm been forced to repair the problem. *tr

Anti theft system on this car along with hundreds if not thousands of people have left us stranded. you call the dealer they say nothing of the reset stuff that is in the book. i did not have a book went on line last winter the first time it happened. dealer said bring it in and get it tested never once offered the fix in book,so if they have a fix in manual don't you think they know its an ongoing issue???? please make them do the right thing. this is the 6th time for me 3 on my way to work. call polar chevrolet and tell them your car wont start and anti theft system is on bet ya get the same answer i did. they are ripping the consumer off with bogus fixes for a problem they know about. i drive a school bus for a living i just need to get to work. google antitheft chevy malibu check it out please! next site is abc cbs nbc and cnn. *tr

This car is an absolute lemon,it forces you to use dexcool antifreeze and this eats away the rubber in the lines, have spent thousands fixing head gaskets and redoing the whole cooling system to be able to use the old green antifreeze and after all of the problems(cant afford new car!) i have looked on line and i am not alone, thousands have had same problem, this needs to be recalled. it is common knowledge with chevy about the anti theft system, you have to put key in on pos. and wait ten mins for it to reset. i have lost a job b/c i was late for work too many times, have had ignition replaced twice,it has nothing to do w/ignition. i get stuck in the middle of nowhere car wont start and gotta freeze to death (in michigan!) waiting for it to reset. this is ridiculous. and chevy does nothing!

Antitheft system passlock randomly activates and prevents starting of car -- must leave key in car for 10-15 minutes and then it starts. it happened again. did internet search regarding malibu starting problems and saw lots of people have same problem i have but when the cars are taken in they are told they need ignition switch or some other thing but after replacement still have the problem. other people on the internet expressed that this is a safety issue and i agree -- having a car that may or may not start at any given time is not safe. for example, what if engines cuts off or is turned off and car needs to be moved for an emergency or safety reason but wont start for 10-15 minutes?! has happened more than 12 times over the 10 years we have owned it. lost count. bought it new.

Intermittent issue at start with vehicle rpms elevating to 3500, if put into drive the vehicle speeds to 45 mph. happens at different times (cold, warm, hot). have had iac and tps sensors replaced (2 times) and most recently the power control module. each fix works for a few weeks, then issue begins again. most recently fremont chevrolet had vehicle for 10 days and could not get it to repeat; therefore, could not have computer read or provide problem and repair. no service completed.

My 2001 chevy malibu has an anti-theft sytem feature on it. however it does'nt read my key right and most of the time won't start. and when it does start it will out of nowhere shut off while im driving. this is realy dangerous because if this happened on the highway or on any road really, it could cause a serious accident or even a fatality. this is a serious matter and there needs to be a recall on this vehicle. i have done a lot of research and apparently every other malibu owner has the exact same pass-lock theft system problem. it only takes a matter of time. please investigate this problem because it really needs to be fixed this is my only car and i cant afford this thank you.

2001 chevrolet malibu: anti theft/pass lock problems. sporatic issue cause the vehicle to not start. multiple tows and service charge with no consistent fix.

My wife drove our 2001 malibu around in the morning, after parking it in the driveway until the afternoon it would not start. it sat for 3 day until i could research how to fix it. the passlock system was failing. the system will not recognize your key and the car will not start. this seems to be a major issue for these vehicles, numerous accounts documented on the internet. to bypass it you have to wait 10 mins and hope the reset takes place and a replacement could cost you upwards of a thousand dollars. a ten minute wait to start a car i own is ridiculous.*tr

Not that i think doing this is going to make any real difference but i will try. i own a 2001 chevy malibu and besides being one of the worst cars made i am having problems with my passlock system not working properly. i know that you have had many complaints about this problem and i see that there is still nothing done about this problem. is it because your do not care? is gm lining your pockets and you are sweeping this under the rug? what ever it is the fact that you turn a deaf ear and do not make gm fix this problem is wrong!!!!! if i had the money i would sue all of you and make them fix this problem on all of the cars! come on this is america and we are supposed to build good cars. gm will never outsell the imports in cars as long as we build junk!! *tr

The turning signal on my 2001 chevy malibu works when it wants to and when it doesn't it's very dangerous. this past halloween i was riding up the main st. and could not signal to cars behind me (it was dark) that i was turning. this is very scary since it happens unexpectedly when you push the arm down. nothing. there's no lights on the car or flasher on my dash. i had to pass my turn & keep going out of my direction so i could send a signal through braking and used my hazard light to let them know i was turning. i live in south carolina where i can't just hop on a bus or train if my car malfunctions. i'm a single mother of two girls and our car ride ended up scarier than the halloween masks. i'm writing before an accident happens. on the roads down here if you put on your hazards and slow down, people generally go around you. this would be very dangerous on a two lane road where i'm trying to make a left turn & they try to go around. gm had a recall in 2003 for this issue & when i called 11/2 they said my vehicle was serviced before i purchased it in 2005 from caring and that i'd have to figs this gm issue out of pocket. i have a problem with that. the very reason for the recall is the reason for the issue. the soldering cracks and affects the circuits. gm knows this issue will reoccur under those conditions & needs to make this right before i have to trust a mechanic to half fix this gm issue & charge me an obscene amount of money in the process. *tr

2001 chevrolet malibu shuts off while in motion (much fun in washington d.c. commuter traffic) or parked. it shuts off like the key is turned to the off position. the doors unlock and the lights turn off. within seconds the lights are back and a with the car coasting in neutral i can restart. occurs whether the engine is cold or hot. i see hundreds of similar complaints. i hope my wife or children being injured aren't the catalyst for a safety recall of this electrical problem. *tr

Purchased a 2001 chevy malibu and after a week worth of starting the car, the car would crank but not turn over. i had to wait 10-15 minutes with my key in the acc position then restart my car. i have night classes and if this happens at night it could be dangerous. my friend also has a 2002 chevy malibu and he has the same problem. to correct this problem i am having my anti-theft passlock system wire (yellow) disabled. how is the anti theft lock going to lock out the owner with the original key?!?! *tr

I have a 2001 chevy malibu that is giving me safety problems concerning the bcm, and the passcode theft feature. i have had 2 dealer experienced mechanics try to fix this problem with out success. the theft light comes on and then prohibits the car from starting until you reset the car by leaving the key in the on position until it resets. not safe if sitting in a dark parking lot (the system will not allow the doors to lock) and very afraid that if the car stalled in traffic this would trigger and not good to leave your car in traffic 1 min while it resets. *tr

Bought a 2001 chevy malibu in april with 41,000 miles. ran fine for a couple of weeks, but then wouldn't always start (had to keep trying and try every key i owned). about 6-10 weeks ago it started shutting off while i'm driving. i have to either coast to the side of the road or jam it into neutral and try to restart it. hazard!!!!!!! had it to my mechanic 3 times and it doesn't do anything wrong when he has it. just got it back this past monday and it ran ok for 4 days and then today it stopped 3 times in 1/2 mile drive. help - i'm afraid to drive it. i fear someday i will cause an accident when it just stops running. have had other people in the car with me when it just stops running and scared them when it happened. i need my car to get to work to make a living. i know i'm not the only one with same complaints. who can i call for assistance without it costing a fortune to fix. i can't afford huge repair bills at this time and i can't afford to go buy another car. i put today's date as the incident date, but it has happened at least 12-15 times in the past 6 weeks. shouldn't chevrolet fix this for free?????? it's a defect in the car!! thank you *tr

My car is a 2001 chevrolet malibu ls. 1. the car failed to start. it got more and more frequent, from once a day to every start. 2. the garage diagnosed it and said the theft protection system failed to recognize my key. 3. i get new keys from the dealer. 4. the problem gets better and it is still there. *tr

Theft system on car occasionally kicks in, preventing starting for 10 minutes or more. this happens when i put in key quickly to start car. usually i can remember to insert the key, let it register, and then turn the ignition. the first couple of times it happened i didn't know the problem and had it towed. the dealer fixed it once, said it was warranty work, the next time a mechanic put in a new ignition system which helped for a while. *tr

Problems with the passlock theft system. first problem with it two years ago. now, the passlock is not allowing my car to start at least once a day. i have to put the key on for ten minutes then off before restarting it. my biggest concerns are what if i was rushing out the door to take one of my children to the hospital and now i have to wait 10 minutes to start my car. this is not acceptable. i know this system is a problem for many gm owners (just looking it up on the web shows me all the problems). i think too common of a failure that a recall on this product should be considered. disabling this feature could also be an affordable way for consumers to fix the problem, especially us who were forced to have the theft deterrent in our car. *tr

2001 chevrolet malibu pass key system will engage much of the time. my wife has to leave the key on for ten minutes plus before the anti-theft light will go out and the car will start. dealer wants to keep replacing the ignition switch to fix the system but it never does go away. *tr

Anti-theft system prevents car from starting. car has slightly over 100,00 miles on it and suddenly recurring problems with the anti-theft system prevented the car from starting. initially turning the key to on and letting the anti-theft system reset fixed the problem but it kept getting worse until now when the anti-theft light remains on and nothing will make it go off. in researching this i've discovered it is a common complaint for 2001 chevrolet malibu ls owners and very expensive to fix. chevrolet is not supporting this issue through a recall and they should. *tr

I own a 2001 chevrolet malibu. i have had the passlock sensor replaced 5 or 6 time over the life of the vehicle. i returned my car today to a dealer for the same issue and now they want $700+ to replace the body control module. in the last six months i have had the vehicle there 3 times and this is the first time that anyone has mentioned that the bcm is causing the problem. i want gm to cover the cost which the dealer refused to do. even after the passlock sensor is replaced, the issue starts up again within 3 to 4 months. *tr

Electrical: it all started 2/2007... there was a recall on the 2001 chevy malibu for turn signal/hazard light defect. i have a 2001 chevy malibu and i had experienced the exact same problems. i contacted gm and they indicated that my vin number was not in the recall and therefore will not reimburse me for the cost of having my turn signals/hazard lights repaired. there is a ticking noise that is off and on, sometimes lasting 3 minutes. then in 5/2008... the following happens at the same time: the car does start the fuel gauge says i am empty, radio will not work, a/c and heater will not work. my daytime lights will not turn on, along with my windows, and cruise control. this is sporadic, but happens at least once a day; sometimes more. *tr

The car will start fine, but once you turn it off and go to start again it will just crank. the first time i replaced the fuel pump. the second time i repaced spark plugs and wires. the third time i didn't know what else to change and a friend said to try putting the key in the on position for 10 mins. i did and it started right up. it turns out the ant-theft system keeps locking me out about every month. it is a major pain to have to be somewhere and not know when the car will start or not, and then sit there for ten mins to reset it. *tr

Car will not start - theft system light comes on. i have tried the passlock fix of turning key to on for 10 minutes, shutting off and trying to restart but no luck on the car starting. the issue has gone on for over 3 weeks, each day getting worse and worse. i have taken the car to a shop and diagnostics came up negative and car started. 3 weeks later, car won't start again. have a mechanic come look at it, he sees nothing wrong with it except that the fuel ignition isn't working - probably because of the passlock theft system!! *tr

The horn will beep on its own, usually when car is first started or turned off, but will also beep (by itself) while driving. also the automatic power door lock switch on the driver side door, which is supposed to lock all doors when depressed when i am leaving the vehicle doesn't work properly. both of these problems have been fixed several times over the last 12 - 18 months by the dealer, but they keep recurring. another problem, which the dealer had fixed a couple of times is that i would go out to start the car, it just wouldn't start. the dealer claimed it had something to do with the anti-theft system/ignition lock cylinder in that if you try three different keys or make three attempts to start the car, then the anti-theft system would lock the car out. two times over the last 12-18 i've gone out to the car, put my car key in the ignition (once each time) and the car would not start, would not even turn over. i'm waiting for it to happen it again, because once the horn and locks start malfunctioning, the anti-theft system usually starts malfunctioning. *jb

Three times car wouldn't start when key was put in ignition. had it towed to dealer each time. when dealer tried to start car each of the three times, it started every time except the last time. 1st time (oct 2005) dealer ran diagnostic test revealing nothing and replaced no parts. 2nd time (jan 2006) dealer replaced ignition switch and sensor for $450. 3rd time (june 2006) dealer couldn't start car, but waited 1-1/2 days to run diagnostic tests so when they finally got to looking at the car it started up again. dealer ran diagnostic test which again revealed nothing since the car was running again. dealer wanted to talk about replacing more parts (fuel pump and the ignition switch again) but i said no and took my car back. dealer cannot explain since 1st time why this is happening. this is now a very unreliable car since we never know when it will happen. *nm

As an auto-tech for many years, there are times when a vehicle's starter needs to be bumped over'' or short cranking time, to assist in testing. some of the newer gm cars, (1999 and newer), have a feature that is dangerous for a tech. that is to say, once the start position is reached by the ignition switch, the computer continues to crank the car, whether or not the ignition is held over or released. this was unexpected and could be extremely dangerous for technicians. i do not know the reason behind this feature, but it was a rude awakening. *la

I went outside to crank up the car and it would not start. it would crank but would not start and the anti-theft light would flash. researched the internet for possible causes and was advised to put the key in the on position for about 10 minutes to bypass the theft system. it seems as if the theft system kicks in and kills the car so that it will not start. this has happened several times. i am always able to get the car to start after about 10 minutes of it being in the on position, but there is clearly an issue with the wiring as this is a common complaint on the internet about these cars. *tr

I purchased my 2001 in 2003 and has never given me any problems. but at the end of march my malibu would not start. i had it towed and got a full tune up and it ran for about a week before it started skipping. i took it back to the mechanic and he gave the car a transmission flush and it ran for about a week. two days later while i was driving the car it cut off, i was able to restart it but then sunday morning 4/20/08 it would not start. i called my mechanic and he noticed that the anti-theft light was blinking and indicated that the system had locked me out, and that the ignition no longer recognizes the chip in the key. i have read online that several owners have been experiencing this problem. i am anger that general motors has not taken ownership of this very serious problem this problem and issued a recall. my car has 41,000 mi and i should not be having problems like this. this is not relevant to wear and tear this is a defected product and a safety issue that warrants the attention of the manufactures and owners who are having problems with their vehicle. this could possibly prove to be fatal if the car suddenly stops in the middle of traffic on the street or highway like my car did. my husband and i were lucky this time. this is a serious issue that needs to be addressed, and was contemplating trading for the newer 2008 model, not anymore. *tr

Problems with anti-theft system. car would not start. have had to have car towed to dealership twice and had the ignition pass lock changed both times within a 6 month period. the third time it happened was one day before the 1 year guarantee on the parts and labor of the previous replacement ran out. had car towed again. this time they said it was the wiring harness to the pass lock. they said it was corroded and they replaced it but i had to pay for it since it was not the same part as the pass lock part they replaced twice before. naturally i have no way of knowing whether the wiring harness corrosion was the real problem on the first, second or third time. they never reimbursed me for the tow on the second replacement that was under their warranty either. tow truck driver told me that this was an almost everyday occurrence for him on gm vehicles that he towed. recall and reimbursement seems to be in order. *tr

(that might be the problem according to tech) however, probably been that way since car purchased in 2001 new. wait and see. called gm at one point and they covered half of a $800 repair bill. so far over $1500.00 in repairs and $400.00 plus in towing plus rental car fees. gm why not recall? too many complaints on same problem. *tr

The passlock system on my 2001 chevy malibu (the absolute worst car i have ever owned) is bad. took it to the dealership several times under warranty and was told that they fixed it. now it's way off of warranty and the system is failing on a weekly basis. $500 to fix, chevy won't issue a recall or (as usual) offer to fix the problem which there are literally thousands of complaints on. *jb

Constant problems with the passlock system on my 2001 chevrolet malibu. passlock engages constantly, causing me to wait 10 minutes for reset every time this occurs. this is a safety issue for my wife and daughter who must wait, in sometimes dark areas of town for passlock to reset before they can start the car and get safely on their way. have had ignition replaced once but issue has not corrected. *tr

I purchased a used 2001 malibu and have experienced problems with the anti-theft system , and learned of it being a common problem from a number of sources ,and would like to support any efforts to get gm to fix what was clear to me a system design defect. the intent of the system may be well meaning and may work well, however, when it causes the owners of the vehicle such inconvenience, and who knows how much money. in 3 weeks of ownership of this car this has occurred twice. the first time it cost me over $200 and over 12 hours of trouble shooting to discover way to get the car running. the second time it was just the annoyance of having to wait for the system to reset. *ak

I have a 2001 malibu. the theft system keeps kicking on, and won't let it start. i have to wait 10 minutes before it will allow itself to start.

The car would turn on but would not start. i tried jumping but it still wouldn't work. i had it towed to a mechanic and spent $200 for them to tell me the anti-theft system needed to be reset. a few weeks later the car did the same thing. i did some research, and found out it could be reset by leaving the car on for 10 to 20 minutes then start it. also, i read this was a common problem with malibu owners and gm was doing nothing to remedy the problem.*ak

About 1 year ago i purchased a 2001 chevy malibu. i loved my car! that summer my sister and i went to the beach and spent the whole day there. when we got into my car to crank it up the theft light was on and it would not crank. i had to wait for 3 hours for a tow truck to come all the way out to the beach. i was told that the computer chip in my key was wrong and i needed another key. well i got a key made and it worked fine. today i got off of work and was on my way to taco bell and my theft light came on, my car started but what is this problem. i do not want to stop anywhere just in case my car wont start. i am pregnant now and it is 95 degrees outside, am i expected to wait? what happens when i have my child and this happens? i did an internet search and this seems to be a big problem. does someone have to get hurt or even die from this in order for a recall? i think it is crazy that i spent money on a car with defects and no one will fix this. believe me i will not stop with this complaint..

Chevrolet malibu, year 2001. repeated problems with pass lock / anti-theft system malfunctioning. two separate conditions occurred 1. system will malfunction so that vehicle cannot be started , cannot bypass/reset the anti-theft system. 2. system will not arm itself, and theft system does not provide intended purpose. addressed this with chevrolet , and they refused to acknowledge any service bulletin related to this problem. they could only recommend that i contact my dealer. my concern is with the possibility of the theft system malfunctioning and causing the vehicle to stall while in motion. this problem has reoccurred seven times since october, 2006. so far, it has been possible to reset problem (1) by keeping the key in the accessory position for 10 minutes, and problem ; (2) by turning the driver door lock 3 times to the right, then once to the left, then starting the vehicle. (these measures were obtained from an internet search which revealed widespread problems of this nature with this vehicle type. *ak

2001 chevy malibu won't start or when started will switch off for no apparent reason. have had the vehicle in the shop numerous occasions and have had many repairs (e.g. new ignition switch) that were supposed to fix the problem but have not. to this point the car has refused to start on three occasions because of a problem with the computer's theft system and has died while driving on dozens of occasions for unknown reasons. fortunately, every time the vehicle has died, the driver was able to avoid accident. unfortunately, we may not be so lucky in the future. although the chevy dealership has indicated that they're unfamiliar with my complaints, the people who towed my car this last time indicated that almost every chevy they tow is for the same reason. *nm

2001 chevrolet malibu would not start. had vehicle towed to dealer. they diagnosed a bad passlock sensor. this is the second time, in 2006, this has happened. it is very expensive to have repaired. this seems to be a very common problem with the malibu. i think the govt. should have gm replace these sensors at no cost to the consumer, as the sensors are of poor quality and over engineered. *nm

No injuries - no crash - unsafe conditions - i own a 2001 chevy malibu - six times in the past 25 months since i purchased it, the car has failed to start due to a problem with the anti theft system. checking on the internet and with other malibu owners this seems to be a constant problem - safety problem - since my wife drives this car my fear is that the car may stall at a busy intersection and then may not start due to the anti theft system problem on the 2001 malibu - which is a very unsafe situation - since it appears there is many, many 2001 malibu with this problem it's a safety problem for many people - i'm sure this has happened to several people - i have had my 2001 malibu towed to gates chevrolet 6 times in the past 25 months for this problem counting today i consider the 2001 malibu to not only be a unreliable car but an unsafe car due to this problem. *jb

Car would turn over once and immediately shut down. ant-theft light would be on. had to have car towed to garage. they could find nothing to explain what happened and reset anti-theft system and released the car. all at a cost of approximately $200. this is 2nd time it has happened. first incident cost $100. it is frustrating because you can never predict when/where it will happen. from research i have done it seems that other people have had similar problem and replacing ignition switch/anti-theft system does not help either. have lost all confidence in my car!

My chevy mailbu 2001 vin # 1g1nd52j316238252 the theft system alarm sets itself and to reset it your having to wait ten minutes. i got on the internet to see if anyone else was having a problem. i found that most all chevy's from the year 1998 to 2005 are having the same problem. one person said that is alarm set itself while on the freeway doing 60 mph shut itself off. if that's not a safety hazard i don't know what is. i would not want that to happen to me. can some one do something about this theft alarm system chevy is putting in their car's? it's very frustrating. i could only wish some one would steal the car. it's a big pain and would of never bought a chevy if i new this!

Car ignition. would not start. this has happened on three separate occasions. we were told that it appeared that it was the anti theft device. upon putting the key in the ignition it was being seen as an intrusion and will not allow the car to start. we have been told by both the dealer and secondary repair shop that the cause appeared to be a loss of memory in the chip. the procedure, which was quite unacceptable, was to wipe the key with alcohol and proceed to turn the ignition on and off several times. my wife ,who is the primary driver, has been stuck on more than one occasion. car has became completely unreliable! dealer, without knowing the problem, insisted that warranty expired, and to replace the ignition cylinder was around $300, 00 something that drastic should be covered by gm. *ak

I have had the brakes and rotors replaced twice since buying the car in april of 2001. i took the car to jim butler chevrolet for the turn signal/flasher problem which was later recalled and i was reimbursed. i took it to don darr chevy which fixed a faulty switch operating the air conditioner/switching to outside air. i had the car towed to dobbs when it would not start, they said it was the fuel pump and assembly module. today, jim butler chevrolet replaced the lock cylinder and ignition switch because of the theft system light and the car not starting.but was unable to find the cause of the daytime running lights not working. oh! but they noticed a recall on the hazard lights and replaced it. they were the one who replaced it the first time. i also told them of the over crank/grinding noise after the car is started, happens occasionally. they could not duplicate, so no repair. i am not happy with this car or chevy because of all the problems and the expense it has caused and cost me. i used to hold chevrolet in high regard, but can no longer recommend anyone owning one.*ak

Filled gas tank, drove 100 yards, gauge drops to read empty. happens occasionally in the same manner. erratic. requires utilization of the trip meter to track fuel usage. on one occasion gauge read tank was about 1/8 full, car stopped running and was out of fuel. second issue: theft security light has begun to come on erratically. driving along, light will suddenly come on. after departure of car, and return, driver must then follow 10 min. procedure to alleviate the problem. third issue: without installation of high quality tires on this vehicle, the noise level and wear pattern is absurd. the cupping and wearing has occured on 2 different sets of good quality tires. upon installation of michelin high quality tires, the problem stopped.

The fuel guage reports incorrect fuel level. you can go the the gas station and fill the car up and the gas hand will show it as being empty and before you put fuel in the tank the guage was at a 1/4 tank. you may have to turn the car off and on several times before it will show that it is full. also, while driving all of a sudden the car will cut off in heavy traffic. one time the car showed 3/4 tank of fuel while it was empty. luckly, i was on a downgrade and was able to get it into the emergency lane on the interstate. the dealer has told me that there is not a problem with the fuel system. furthermore, the check engine light has come on because the oxygen sensor has been damaged by the car running out of gas.*ak

Intermittently all dash lights stay on when starting the car. also the radio/ clock does not come on for approx. 60 sec's. dealer wants to replace ignition switch and passlock sensor. this seems to be a common problem with this car. manufacturer should be responsible for repairs. *nm

The driver placed the key inside of the ignition switch and the vehicle would not turn on. the driver had the vehicle towed to the dealer, and the mechanic determined that ignition cylinder switch needed to be replaced. *ak the problem would occur with no warning. the theft light had illuminated due to the ignition sensor and had to be reprogrammed. the theft light would also flash and the vehicle would become hard to start at times. this problem also may have occurred due to an internal failure of the ignition lock cylinder. *sc *jb

My upper and lower intake manifold gaskets need to be repaired. under ca. emssions law the intake manifold is covered but not the components or parts. the gaskets should not wear out this fast on a new car that has been keep in good repair. these parts should be recalled. *ak

When driving at highway speeds the vehicle stalled. the vehicle also lost power steering but the consumer managed to pull over. problem had not been resolved. *ak two separated dealerships stated that there was nothing they could do to fix the problem until one dealer kept the vehicle for a week and stated that the vehicle experienced a hicc up and the vehicle was repaired. the left front wheel bearing was noisy and the left front hub was noisy. *scc the fuel pump and ignition switch and the consumer had not experienced any more problems with the vehicle. also the front rotors were replaced. *jb

At approximately 30000 miles my car started hesitating when starting. the dealer could find no fault and i kept driving with only periodic problems. then my gas gauge, radio, engine check light and passive alarm system kept coming on. at, 43,000 miles the car would not start. the dealer said the key had lost its memory but i still kept having the same problems. at, 48,354 miles the car totally went out. after having the car for several days the dealer said it was the ignition switch. under california law the ignition system is covered to 50,000 miles but the dealer stated teh ignition switch is not part of the ignition system. after writting chevy complaint dept many times i got no where because all they do is calll the dealer, they do not go with an independent body just the dealer that gave me the advice in the first place. i had the dealer return the bad part to me and want to know if this part is covered. i paid 400.00 to have it fixed. the dealer did give me a 75.00 credit because it was never my key memory they stated it was the ignition switch the entire time.*ak now, the car is at 54,000 miles and coolant is leaking around, in and near the engine. i have kept this car in good repair and have all receipts. these major parts should not be wearing down this fast. the dealer had to change the hazard switch shortly after i first got the car.

While driving and without warning, all of electrical outlets went out, resulting in windows/radio, and air conditioning becoming inoperative. dealer has been notified about the occurring problem on more than one occasion; however, had no remedy for problem. *ak the speedometer is the only thing operable on the dash. upon starting the vehicle the only thing operable was the radio. consumer didn't report the defect because all systems started working on their own. this problem has been reoccuring. there has been two attempts at repair but to no avail. the cause was the ignition switch shorted causing the power accessories circuit connector to melt. *jg

We are paying on a 2001 malibu. the fuel sensor went out showing gasoline when there wasn't. the car stalled in rush hour traffic. the sensor was replaced but i had to pay for the fuel filter plus a deductible on my extended warranty. next the blinkers decided to only work occassionally same week the starter started dragging then the car started to run hot. took it to the dealer, replaced blinker switch (no mention made of the recall) replaced the starter and replaced the gasket that was leaking. when i had added coolant to get myself home the coolant that was n the car was green, the coolant i put in the car green..was supposed to be orange when i told the dealer there was green coolant in the car he said oh someones booboo unfortunately you have to pay for it...almost 300.00. yesterday, long memorial day weekend left work again rush hour, car begins to make a horrible noise i pull off notice the alternator belt is coming apart but the noise that i heard had nothing to do with the alternator belt sounds like metal on metal. $1400.00 worth of work done in april, 800.00 a few months before that and now this...the car is well maintained by my husband. now i read what i have to look forward to, the car was bought chevy certified from a chevy dealer. *la

*la
