I own a 2001 chevy malibu ls 6 cyl. this year has 670,000+ cars recalled for the exact same problem i am having and the exact same year. yet because my vin isnt included or enough people with my vin have not reported the problem..i am discluded from having them fix this for me. my turn signals are not working, they will not flash, click or go on as of recently. this is a safety hazard that gm did recall for my car year and type, yet i am discluded because of my vin, so my life..does not matter? because...maybe only a few hundred have had the same problem? this is a known recall with my type of car, and i am in danger here...i called gm 2 times 8/8/2011 i was told there was nothing they could do for me, simply because of my vin...ummmmm how about include my vin!!! my life matters just as much as anothe others and if i am having this problem and reporting it, then include the vin..for the safety of others as well!!! half a million malibus from 2001 were affected by this recall...what makes them think mine wasnt?! please help..i am a college student and i am driving a car with no turn signals and i have to pay for text books and now dealing with a safety hazard because gm does not want to recognize the recall. please help...! is your file number, where you guys have the recall posted: 03v327000

The turning signal on my 2001 chevy malibu works when it wants to and when it doesn't it's very dangerous. this past halloween i was riding up the main st. and could not signal to cars behind me (it was dark) that i was turning. this is very scary since it happens unexpectedly when you push the arm down. nothing. there's no lights on the car or flasher on my dash. i had to pass my turn & keep going out of my direction so i could send a signal through braking and used my hazard light to let them know i was turning. i live in south carolina where i can't just hop on a bus or train if my car malfunctions. i'm a single mother of two girls and our car ride ended up scarier than the halloween masks. i'm writing before an accident happens. on the roads down here if you put on your hazards and slow down, people generally go around you. this would be very dangerous on a two lane road where i'm trying to make a left turn & they try to go around. gm had a recall in 2003 for this issue & when i called 11/2 they said my vehicle was serviced before i purchased it in 2005 from caring and that i'd have to figs this gm issue out of pocket. i have a problem with that. the very reason for the recall is the reason for the issue. the soldering cracks and affects the circuits. gm knows this issue will reoccur under those conditions & needs to make this right before i have to trust a mechanic to half fix this gm issue & charge me an obscene amount of money in the process. *tr

Safety recall #03043a (03/08/2004) - turn signals/hazard warning flashers inoperative * the turn signals work intermittently: you have to push the hazard switch off and on to get the turn signals to work. in order to make the turn signals work, the driver must take one hand off the steering wheel to push the hazard switch on and off and this defect also forces the driver to take their eyes from the road and to the dashboard of the vehicle in an effort to make the turn signals work properly, which is a major safety hazard. i brought the vehicle to classic chevrolet in altamonte springs, fl on 9/10/07 per this safety recall. although the recall covers vin #'s from 1m500024 to 1m669822 (the vehicle clearly falls within this range vin# 1m551207), the dealer refused to replace this part under that recall. i called chevrolet, and was first told that it was part of the recall, and that the dealer should replace the switch at no charge, then was told it was not, as there are certain vin #'s within this range that are not effected. ultimately chevrolet refused to address the defective turn signal safety recall issue. this vehicle is having the same exact issue as the others in this vin range and could not possibly not be part of this recall. i am asking that the nhsta intervene in this matter, as it is clear that chevrolet is not willing to address this very dangerous safety issue. i fear that there will be an accident in this vehicle because of this defect. *tr

I bought my car when it was a year old, since buying the car, i have had to pay 800 dollars to have the ignition switch changed, which i found out later the dealership should have only charged 400. i have also responded to the turn signal recall to have the hazard switch fixed only to have the same switch go out again, not even 2 years later. i am being told that it will cost at least 200.00 to fix. instead of the turn signals not working now there is a constant clicking in the dash, which they said is caused by the hazard switch being defective...if that is the case then why would they replace the original switch with a defective one and not replace the defective one? *nm

Driver's side window switch stalls before rolling up. turn signals do not work all the time. internal fan switch only works on 5. if i turn the fan switch on or off, turn signals will start working instantly. turn signal problem started right after the blower went out. i cannot listen to the radio and run the rear defroster at the same time. the driver's side seat belt will not release all the time when i try to put it on. the car has died as i tried to turn left at a stop light. this was a used car with less than 30k miles when i bought it in march 2005, no problems until about may. now a problem a day seems to appear. the car now has 39k miles on it and my husband wants me to trade it in already because he says it is going to nickel and dime us to death. i have seen several of these problems on recall sites, but the dealer said that my vin was not included in the recall. *jb

I was having intermittent trouble with the turn signals and hazard lamps. they will stop working when you most needed them. my mechanic changed the turn signal switch but that didn't fix the problem. at that point i saw that there was a recall on hazard switch pertaining to same type of problems. i contacted gm, they told me my car is not part of the recall, and referred me to a dealer. i went back to my mechanic, and he figured out that the hazard switch was the problem. as that is where all the power is distributed to rest of the exterior lighting, and it will fail particularly on a hot day when it was hot, and the air condition was turned on. he replaced the hazard switch, and the car has not have that trouble for last one month. can somebody tell me, how is this problem different that the problem explained in the recall? also, having trouble with starting of the car. once in a while the car doesn't start, and the ignition makes a wierd noise. the original tires that this car came with,m were a joke. they wore unevenly, and made the car shake and rattle. have put new michelins on, and that has solved that problem.*ak

At approximately 30000 miles my car started hesitating when starting. the dealer could find no fault and i kept driving with only periodic problems. then my gas gauge, radio, engine check light and passive alarm system kept coming on. at, 43,000 miles the car would not start. the dealer said the key had lost its memory but i still kept having the same problems. at, 48,354 miles the car totally went out. after having the car for several days the dealer said it was the ignition switch. under california law the ignition system is covered to 50,000 miles but the dealer stated teh ignition switch is not part of the ignition system. after writting chevy complaint dept many times i got no where because all they do is calll the dealer, they do not go with an independent body just the dealer that gave me the advice in the first place. i had the dealer return the bad part to me and want to know if this part is covered. i paid 400.00 to have it fixed. the dealer did give me a 75.00 credit because it was never my key memory they stated it was the ignition switch the entire time.*ak now, the car is at 54,000 miles and coolant is leaking around, in and near the engine. i have kept this car in good repair and have all receipts. these major parts should not be wearing down this fast. the dealer had to change the hazard switch shortly after i first got the car.

Turn signals on 2001 chevrolet malibu quit working at unpredictable times. thru trial and error, discovered that by turning on hazard flashers and then off, that turn signals would then work. contacted dealer, and was told that is a common problem, most likely hazard switch. when next in for service, (june 17, 2003) had problem checked, and hazard switch was replaced, at a cost of $119.50. if this is a common problem (as i see it is by a number of service bulletins and defect investigations on nhtsa web site) and apparrently a known defect, it should be covered by a recall, or unwritten extended warranty . *ak
