My 2005 chevy malibu is experiencing an issue with the fuel gauge in regards to every time i fill up on gas. after the nozzle clicks once letting me know that it is full, i take the nozzle out. when i start the car, the gas needle goes up to full and stays there for about 3 miles or so. then it suddenly goes to empty and i get the low fuel message, the steady check engine light and the chime. after driving 30 more miles, the needle fixes it self and goes to the correct level of gas. it works fine for the rest of the time until i fill up again. the low fuel message goes away and the light on the dash board goes away too. this is very similar to a recent message my father-in-law received from gm concerning his 2005 chevy envoy. he received a letter regarding a special coverage for failing fuel gauge sensors. the description in the letter is very similar to my same problem.

2005 chevy malibu. gas gauge started giving incorrect readings resulting in car running out of gas and stalling, unable to restart. gauge now will always read completly full when starting car, then after a few minutes, will fail and drop all the way to completly empty. i have spoken to many other gm owners and several of them have experienced the same issue, costing them almost $1,000 in repairs to get the gauge/float replaced. this is a serious and potentually a very dangerous problem because people could run out of gas and be stranded miles from help and this could happen in adverse or freezing weather conditions. if children happen to be in the car, the seriousness of this is considerably higher. i feel this is a major and widespread defect and that this particular piece of equipment should be recalled and fixed at no cost to the customer. i have owned gm cars my entire life and i would think that they would correct this and keep their dedicated customers safe and satisfied.

I have a 2005 chevy malibu, bought brand new, i've had problems from the start with this car. the rack & pinion has been replaced twice. the hub bearings have had to be replaced, the rear stabilizer bar needs replacing. i have a gas cap issue, now to top it all off, i've been having issues where i am driving and i start to accelerate and the steering wheel locks up, i have been on the freeway several times when this happens. this is a very dangerous situation, gm will do nothing about this. they know that the 2005 malibu is a dangerous car but will not recall at all.

I own a 05 pre-owned chevy malibu that was in prestine condition when buying. after having for about 6 months the fuel gauge started acting erratically and the check engine light stays on as a cause of this issue. i was told it will cost me $800 to fix the issue. also the air conditioning unit has gone out due to a faulty part (told by a mechanic). i googled this issue and so many other purchasers of the same vehicle are having the same issues with the air conditioning and the fuel gauge. this is not right and gm has to know that these parts are faulty. i am a working mother of 3 who cannot afford to have this fixed and because of this i cannot renew by tags on my car due to the check engine light being on.

Vehicle intermittently wants to steer on its own. this happens for only a short time when it occurs. primarily it wants to go left. once i tried to go into the left lane of a freeway quite gradually...it wanted to go left alright...although it wanted to go quickly into the lane! car has been to the dealer 5 times for this problem. the dealer has never been able to duplicate the problem. they have replaced the steering column twice. the last time was this past friday (7/30/05). hasn't happened since then (tuesday, 8/2/05)...but...again this is a very intermittent problem. my mileage has dropped from 33 miles per gallon to 29 miles per gallon. dealer says that nothing they have done should have caused this problem. they say that the 29 miles per gallon is within specifications...this drop is very significant. have requested a buy back direct from chevrolet. the vehicle well exceeds the requirements for a buy back according the ohio lemon law. chevrolet says that they will not buy back the car...even though it exceeds the requirements for the ohio lemon law! my biggest concern is that the steering will go totally out and the car will go wherever it decides to...i don't want to be injured and don't want to injur any one else. *jb

I have a 2005 malibu, and have had a clunking noise in the steering since approx. 40,000miles. i have taken it to the garage several times and they have told me that chevrolet did not make a place to lubricate the joints inside the column so that they dry out quickly, and are banging together and it is nothing to worry abouti do not agree, anything constantly clanging against another object is eventually going to wear out. i also just had my fuel tank, fuel sensor replaced,at the cost of 600. it started giving false readings and then got increasingly worse until it did not work anymore. my exterior lighting is also messed up. i have to replace bulbs frequently and it looks like the base of the bulb is melted when they take them out. i had contacted my local dealer on these issues and they stated no recalls . *tr |
