| The vehicle was being driven on 2 lane highway at 45 mph suddenly power steering warning message appeared in display, warning noise came on (ding) and there was no power steering. the vehicle was pulled over anf the ignition was turned off and the vehicle was re-started and the warning message was gone and the powersteering started working again. i checked for, (diagnostic trouble codes), dtc's with a scantool and there were no codes listed. i looked for service bulletins for this and found the following. special coverage adjustment - power steering assist2012/05/2310183a this bulletin covers my vehicle and will replace the steering column in the vehicle. | |||

| Upon returning from vacation, we retrieved our 2006 chevrolet malibu from a friends house and the car beeped once and my husband was like what's that, then i noticed in the message center area that it was flashing power steering, which it had never done before. now, every time i get into the car, the car beeps and the power steering message comes on in the message center. i have researched the issue and have noticed that gm is not accepting full responsibility for these defective steering columns/power steering motors, only those select few (cobalts, etc.)?? apparently quite a few are being recalled in canada, but not in the u. s. and it only leads me to the question: why?? i have been a loyal malibu owner (this is my third one) but if gm is not willing to step up and admit a serious safety defect, i may have to rethink my choice of vehicle ownership. | |||

| We are having a problem with the battery dying intermittently. we have had the car since 04/11. since we have purchased the car we have had to replace the battery 3 different times, each time we have had to replace the battery we take it to the shop and let them test the battery and there is always a dead cell in the battery.the battery is only lasting from 4 to 6 months we have had the car in the garage and no one can figure out what is going on. i have noticed that there have been other complaints also. we also had the same power steering issue as every one else while we were on vacation in tennessee, but we were very lucky that the dealer we took our car to new of the issues and new that there was a clause you might say about this vehicle and we were able to get the car repaired free of charge. | |||

| I purchased my 2006 malibu in 2007. since the time of purchase i have had problems with this car's steering column. it would make a clunking sound every time i would make a turn left or right. i knew something wasn't right. i took the car to the dealer once and they replaced something in the steering column. i still hear the clunking noise today. when i turned the key to start the car at times it seemed like the car was cranking and running on its own. hard to explain it unless you were starting the car. that was an issue as well. now this 2006 malibu was parked in my drive way after going to the store and the next day when i tried to start it it would not start. i thought it might be the battery and had that checked out. not the battery, then i was told it was the timing chain. i had the car towed to the shop where i purchased the car and now i am told that the rocker arm broke and in turn it bent the rods and damaged the engine. the engine is now ceased and damaged. | |||

| 2006 chevy malibu lt, 2.2 is stalling, started mid aug 2010. it happens mostly when the rpms go between .5 to 1. i am not sure how many times it has stalled but i would estimate it has happened about 15-25 times. i have to hold the break down firmly while gently accelerating to keep the car on. the stalling occurs while im stopped or when i'm in motion, which may cause an accident on the road or highway. i tried changing the spark plugs & that didn't work. the check engine light had been on before it started stalling, i finally got it checked and codes p0106 and p0121 came up. took to a mechanic today and suggested i report this here first after asking me if i thought it was a safety hazard for the highway, when my car stalls. | |||

| 2006 chevy malibu electric power steering goes out randomly and locks up while driving causing driver to loose control of the vehicle. i have read numerous complaints about this problem on the internet ranging from year models 2004-2008 and i am wondering why there has not been an investigation into the problem. i also have been told that dealers have no idea what the problem is and how to fix it. i'm also learning that everyone is saying that the problem is caused by different things, but the result is all the same. the electric power steering is faulty no doubt about it!!! is gm going to wait until people die to do something about this problem. this is a very serious one!!!!!!!!!!!! | |||

| An incident experiencing acceleration of vehicle during cruise control after turning steering wheel to avoid debris on highway. acceleration caused driver to lose control and cause a spin before regaining control of the vehicle. acceleration would come and go when vehicle was out of control. | |||

| 38k mile 2006 chevy malibu v-6-car shakes/vibrates/shimmies. it also rattles and clunks underneath at all speeds, feels like the bottom is falling out. dealer refuses to acknowledge a minimum of 7 complaints. headlights lenses are loose and the lights shake all over the place. dealer did finally acknowledge headlight issue after the 4th complaint and i was told it is a gm problem but they have no fix and there is nothing they can do. now that the warranty is up, they are acknowledging all previous complaints (many more than just the couple i listed here) but at my expense when these issues s/h/b taken care of at the time of the original and numerous complaints. *tr | |||
