At approximately 79k miles the fuel gauge started to go to minimum level, with the fuel level warning light, and then back to the actual level. once it started happening it increased in frequency, but with no real pattern. after 3 or 4 occurences the check engine light came on, code p0463 fuel level sensor a curcuit high input. since then every time i clear it it comes back on with the first occurence. as an instrumentation technician, and an electrician, this tells me there is a higher than expected current, that could potentially cause a spark or a fire, in a device that is connected to the fuel tank. the fact that there is not already a recall tells me that no one has died... yet.

The following codes are active; p0463 fuel level sensor a circuit high input, b0561 abs $43 sys disabled and c0561 sys disabled issues. the fuel gauge was fluctuating, but has now stopped working. the service engine soon light came on and will not reset to off. the service seat belt warning message came on. the problems were intermittent prior to 50,000 miles, but now, just after 50,000 miles nothing resets. i have found that this is a common problem and the repairs are very expensive, yet nothing has been done to convince gm to recall and make repairs. we own a 2006 malibu with 35,000 miles on it. now, i'm worried that it is going to have the same problem as our 2007 malibu. and, who wants to face those repair bills!

Steering shaft failure - power steering motor failure steering box replaced gas gauge sensor replaced struts replaced passenger door won't seal i have hated this car almost from the moment i bought it. so many things wrong with it. 2007 car shouldn't have all these problems. 1989 blazer still going and has none of this crap.

The fuel sensor on our 2007 chevy malibu only works occasionally. it will typically read empty regardless of the fuel level and the check engine light comes on. obviously a major problem with this car as many owners are seeing the same problem. the sensor is inside the gas tank so this issue cannot be due to excessive wear and tear, it is simply a bad design or a bad part. either way gm needs to accept responsibility for the mistake and fix their mistake. with cold winter driving an inaccurate fuel sensor is a hazard. the trip meter can give a rough estimate, but as mpg changes considerably between highway and city driving as well as winter vs. summer this is not a very safe solution.

My 2007 chev malibu fuel gauge goes to empty after a fill up and then it will go to full and then back down to out of fuel causing the engine check lite to come on - at first the lite would go out when i had less then a 1/4 of a tank of fuel - now it stays on all the time. i have been reading that this is a problem with the 2007 malibu. the repair for this is 600-800 dollars! i have owned at least 20 cars in my life and never had a fuel tank gauge go bad?

The fuel gauge will randomly go from full to empty even after being filled up at times this causes the car to start hard dur to the car computer thinking the car is out of gas there has also been times were the car will idle very rough as if starving for gas

My 2007 chevy malibu's gas gauge dropped from full to e after filling up and the check engine light came on i took the car to the dealership spent $530 for them to fix the fuel level sensor / sending unit which requried the whole fuel tank to be replaced in may of 2010 now a year and half later i am having the same issue and the dealership advised it was only warrantied for 12 months! this is a huge cost to have the same issue again and it also becomes a safety issue when traveling with my kids because the car is not reading an accurate amount of gas.

My car for the last year or so has said that my fuel tank is empty, even right after i fill it up. i've been told by auto zone that it's my fuel sensor in the fuel tank that is broken, that's why my check engine light is on and my gauge is always on empty. they told me that there is no recall for my car and that it would be at least 400 to fix not including labor. i've looked at all the complaints and the majority of them are dealing with the same problem that i have. i'm not made out of money and i'm worried that one day i might run out of gas or something could happen. i usually always have my toddler in the car with me and if i had the money for a new car, this wouldn't be a problem. i'm guessing since this is an expensive fix, nobody wants to recall these cars and own up to their mistakes. what happens if there is a crash one day because of this. i'd like to know why there's no recall but a ton of complaints about the same thing.

I filled my car up for the first time since purchase to find the guage goes from full to empty at any time. in a 10 minute drive, it went up and down 6 times.the fuel light comes on and the check engine light turns on. as i researched the problem online, i see many compalints about this happening. it's an expensive fix, which is why i believe nothing is being done about it. this is more than a nuisance, as most have stated. how am i to know when there is a real problem with my engine if the light is on always? how am i to travel any distance not knowing if my tank is full or almost empty? what if i run out of gas in the middle of no where?

My car for the last couple of months have been having problems with the fuel gauge going up and down as idrive the diagnosis says that it is the fuel sensor and was trying to find out if there is a recall aparently iam not the only one with a 2007 malibu that i hvig problems wih thischeck engine light going on and the gas gauge goes up and down as i drive. it i fustrating becaue it sttred of when i go to a quarter of a tank the gauge woulddrop and th engine light would go on. ten it would progressivly get worst, startedat a half a tank and ten to tree quarters of a tank and now when i fill up it still flextuates as i drive and the check engine ligh stays on. i believe that this is unsafe for my small childrn to be driving around in because i ca be stuck something could happen wit a fuel line and a fire can be caused iwould really like a notice on the recall so i can be reemburssed for my troubles and money to have this replaced. thankyou fo listenin and i hop that there is soeting going to be done or i will help spread the word not to buy this car even though i lov it is has ben causing me proplems with this i am a single mom of 2 little girls and i cant be throwing away money fro a manufacturers problem

Have had problems with the fuel sensor, thought it was fuel level sensor but apparently from all others reports these are several problems with the fuel system. this causes the check engine light to come on and will not allow the remote start to work. also have problems with sensor in passenger seat. just works randomly. very concerned this will interfere with air bag deployment. all of these things were fixed while still under warranty but started doing it again after it expired and too costly to fix on my own.

The fuel gauge will randomly go to empty turning on the low fuel light this also caused the check engine light to come on it will go up and down all the time every few minutes when driving no matter what the speed or type of driving conditions it is believed to be a fuel sensor and interference with a vent tube

For more than two months now, since june 10, 2011, my gas gauge keeps jumping up and down, and can remain to the empty or 0 sign for more than a hundred miles. then i receive messages that my gas tank is empty even when it is full. this occurs at the moment when i add gasoline in the tank or fill out the tank. then, since june 17, the empty sign has been accompanied by the alert engine sign. until the end of july, the two alerts would routinely disappear after i have driven for about 100 miles or after a day or two days. but for more than three weeks now, the two alerts can stay for a week and beyond 100 miles. but they would eventually disappear and would reappear once i put new gasoline in the car or fill out the tank. on august 18, 2011, i brought the car to a mechanic and the diagnosis was that is was the failure of the gas tank sensor. saying that the gas tank will need to be taken out to install a new sensor. when i went to google for get additional information for this specific issue for malibu 2007, i found out that other people were complaining about the same problem with their 2007 malibu. i called chevrolet asking if malibu 2007 has been recalled for this particular problem, i was informed that the recall can only be issued by the nhtsa. that's why i am filing this complaint.

When attempting to refuel the vehicle, the gas gauge would decrease to zero and the check engine warning light would illuminate. normal operation would resume after the tank was half empty. in order to correct this problem the dealer stated that whis would require a comple replacement of the sending unit all sensors as the common cause of this is corrision if the float by the gas, the dealer said this is a common problem.

My 2007 chevy malibu leaks gas from the fuel line, that fuel leaks into the car creates gas vapors. i contacted gm they said that they know about a problem with the gas line rubbing and leaking gas, however they said that there is nothing they could do about it do to my car being a 2007 and having 43,000 miles. this is a safety concern those vapors could catch fire or explode, also make me ill when i get in the car. this could also be an epa issue with the leaking of the gas. *tr

I purchased a used 2007 cheverlot malibu in 11/2009. a few months of me owning it, the fuel guage started acting up. it would register that there was fuel in the tank and then it would state i was on empty even though i know i had fuel in it. it has now stopped working all together. i took it to a mechanic and was told that is a dealer item to replace it and the cost would be rather expensive. i am a single father raising a 2 year old child and i can not afford the hundreds of dollars it would take to replace this dealer item. i am relying on mileage to determine when to refuel at this point in time. i do not believe this is the best method however i am doing the best that i can.

2007 chevrolet malibu. consumer states problems with gas gauge *tgw the consumer stated when she re-fueled the vehicle, and the gas gauge reached approximately 3/4 full, the fuel gauge needle dropped to empty and the check engine light illuminated. the gas gauge continued to read empty and the engine light stayed on until three to four gallons of gas was used. the gauge would then begin to read the correct amount of gas in the tank and would continue to do so until the tank was filled again. the check engine light would remain on for several days until gas was put in the tank above 3/4 full. the consumer believed the fuel gauge lever sensor was poor designed. *jb
