I was traveling south on 1-5 entering the vancouver-portland draw bridge. when a car stopped in front of me in the left hand lane. i dynamited my brakes and my blazer did not stop in the appropriate amount of time. it felt like i had a 4,000 pound trailer pushing me. i feel that the braking system should have stopped me sooner than it did. it took 6 to 10 seconds which should have been pleanty of time. on july 22, 1999 the eugene reg. guard printed an article titled gm to fix more than 3.5 million vehicles. i have been to a local gm dealer and was informed that this was not an official recall but only an investigation. my concern is that the body is being done on the blazer but the dealer has told me that nothing can be done about the brakes until they receive an official recall from the manufacturer. i do not feel that i can trust my breakes at this time. please advise me as to what avenues i can take to verify that my breakes are in working order and let me know if my vehicle is one those listed by the nhtsa . a reply would certainly be appreciated. joe poirier

I have owned this vehicle since new and my big complaint has been the abs breaks just arn't sufficent, they have been kept up to speck and just seem to fade and the stopping distance is just entirely too long, and i hate to let some one drive it as they can not get used to the stopping distance
Vehicle had 18,00 miles when was hearing squeaking loud noise. this was because front calipers locked. changed rotors, has not experienced problem since. *ak
