Defect SummaryThe intermediate steering shaft loosens at the steering shaft to steering gear coupling. with this looseness, the yoke pinch bolt can wear on the splines of the shaft until there is no longer an interference between the splines and the bolt.
Consequence SummaryThis condition can cause body to chassis movement allowing the steering shaft to separate from the steering gear which can result in a loss of steering control.
Corrective SummaryDealers will retorque the upper and lower bolts to correct specifications.

 While driving at 30 mph consumer's girl friend pulled the steering wheel to the right, vehicle went out of control, went off the street into four yards, and hit a mail box. back on the pavement of the drivewaythere are skid marks. driver lost control of the vehicle which spinned out of control,and the rear of the vehicle snapped a telephone pole, and vehicle came to a stop. *ak

 When it is raining or snowing and have to apply the brakes in a sudden stop the brakes will lock up, and the truck will get going. when this happens the steering locks up, and there is no control in the steering wheel. this only happens when it is wet out side. this has been an on going problem since 96. *ak

 While driving to the gas station in a 25 mph. zone my truck suddenly swerved to the right at that point i hit the curb and a tree i had no control of the steering or brakes , the tire was blown out on impact and the truck staled out . it had to be towed to a repair shop , after the repairs were done the mechanic explained that i had a right idler arm that was defective, and snapped in the middle while i was driving. i do have this part here. *akthankyou.( dot number: tire size: p23575s15 )

 The vehicle was taken to teeter chevrolet, 1512 w. moline, malvern, ar 72104; 501-337-7504. i was informed upon pick up my vehicle that the bolts in the steering column had been sheared. fortunately, the incident took place within 300 feet of merging onto the interstate. thus, causing no accidents, but left me in the middle of a highway with no means of operating and/or turning my vechicle.
