Tl-the contact owns a 1997 chevrolet s10. the contact was driving approximately 45 mph in rainy weather with the windshield wipers activated. suddenly and without warning, the wipers failed to operate. the vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road and eventually the windshield wipers began to function after continuously turning the control mechanism forcefully. there was a recall related to the defect under nhtsa campaign id number 03v159000 (visibility: windshield wiper/washer). the dealer and manufacturer were notified and they informed the contact that the vehicle was ineligible for the recall repair due to the age of the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 105,000. kmj

Winshield wipers stopped working while driving in a heavy rain storm. i pulled to the side of the road and tried all different setting but wiper did not work so i parked the vehicle. the next day i checked and they had started working again. i found a recall notice (03v159000) while researching what might cause this type of problem, but when i contacted a dealer they could not find any record of the recall. i also contacted chevrolet (800 222-1020) on jun 10th 2010, but they also told me there was no recall in effect?

Re: windshield wiper motor failure on my 1997 chevrolet s-10 blazer. i was informed that a recall was issued last year on s-10s for wiper motor failure, that you had to have the vehicle with less than 70,000 miles on it. i had 72,000 miles, therefore did not qualify for a recall. since that time i have been having more and more trouble with the wipers quitting in time of rain and other times. i think gm should replace them no matter what the mileage is. it is becoming very hazardous these days, not knowing when they will work or not. many times i have to get out of my vehicle and get under the hood and jiggle the wires to the motor, which is very annoying. i bought my vehicle new in 97 and was well pleased until this happened. i have come close to having accidents in the rain when they fail. thank you. *ak

About 2 weeks ago, the windshield wipers on my 1997 s10 pickup began to intermittently malfunction (there have been 4 instances of this so far). in my ensuing investigation of the problem, i learned that there is a recall to fix the problem. on 9-8-2004 i took the vehicle to southview chevrolet in inver grove heights, mn to get the wiper module replaced. after entering the vin number into their computer, they told me my s10 wasn't elligible to have the repairs done at no cost to me. even though one of their documents stated that the recall was for beginning of production to end of production, they said that the recall expired 2-29-2004. i then called chevrolet's 800-222-1020 number and asked 2 people why i wasn't notified of a recall, and how can a recall expire. i was issued a service request # 1-257047512, and was told that it was not a recall, but was a special policy that had the above expiration date. further investigation brought me to your website where i found nhtsa campaign id number: 03v159000 which refers to a recall for this problem on 97 s10 chevrolets and, futher, refers to gm recall no. 03023. chevy seems to be using semantics to give me the run-around so they won't have to replace my wiper module. i plan to write to the chevy ceo to bitterly complain and to let him know that there will be no more chevys for me. if i get no satisfaction from him or an underling, what other recourse do i have to light a fire under chevy? thanks for replying to the listed email address. jon randall. *ak

Windshield wipers fail to work when needed (driving in the rain). first noticed this problem about a year ago and wipers fail to work more often recently. when wipers fail to work i have to attempt to pull over and assist the wipers to get them going. sometimes this involves opening the hood and tapping on the wiper motor, other times i gently assist the wiper arm. when approaching sudden down pours this problem could increase the chance of an accident due to poor visibility. i noticed that their is a recall for earlier models (nhtsa campaign number: 98v150001) with the same symptoms as i am seeing. please advise.

My wife and i were coming home from dinner when we encounterd a storm with haevy rains. it seems as if the wind shield wipers don't want to work when its damp or raining heavy. i called detroit and they advised me to go to the dealer i bought the truck from.as they had already lied to me , i took it to my mechanic. he knew what the problem was before i got it out of my mouth real good. he said it was a defective wiper motor and that he had to replace a couple a week. detroit said that they had no knowledge of the problem. the company that my exterminater works for had the same problem and the nurse that takes care of my mom-in-law had the same problem. all vehicles are gm products. will someone have to die before they acknowledge the problem. believe me its not fun driving home in the rain at night.e. *ak

Windshield wipers will work for about 20 minutes (15 miles) and then quit. i have gotten out and jiggled wires and got it to work again. upon gut instinct and some knowledge of automible engines, i believe this to be a bad motor for the windshield wipers or a bad wire conection. i don't believe this could have been a fault of owner due to the fact that an owner can not cause a wire short and also feel it is a manufacturer problem for lack of test of windshield wiper motors. *ak

Wipers failed without warning while i was driving on the interstate during heavy downpour. managed to navigate vehicle to the shoulder of road with several near misses. discovered on your web site that a problem with wiper control board was identified in 1997 s10's. gm states that my vin falls outside of the recall class (svc. req. #1-420719550) thus my truck was not identified as a part of the recall and was not repaired before this incident. gm refuses to consider my vehicle as part of the recall, i will be required to make this critical repair on my own. *nm
