I was travelling at aproximately 55 mph. a full sized silverado 4x4 pulling a horse trailer failed to stop at a stop sign and pulled out in front of me. i applied my brakes and hit hm in the driver door. my driverside airbag did not deploy. my wife was riding as a passenger. she was wearing her shoulder/seatbelt. it did not lock in place and hold her back. she was thrown forward into the dashboard. she received bruised ribs and a bruise on her forehead. the passenger side airbag had been turned off due to the fact that we sometimes transport our grandchildren. we have contacted gm about this. we were told that the conditions were not right for airbag deployment or for the seatbelt to restrain! come on! i thought these things were supposed to be safety equipment!!!!!

SEAT BELTS - FRONT - BUCKLE ASSEMBLY
09/01/1999
Both seat belts hang on seat rear latches on driver and passagner side when door is closed and you buckle your seat belt. you do not realize that they are not properly buckled until you open a door and the belt slides over the latch to the rear of the seat. there is not enough clearance between the door and the seat when the door is closed. the belt will hang on the latch which allows too much slack in the belt. if the door is open it will not hang. this could cause severe injury because the lap section of the belt is not tight

2/25/99 truck was taken to serra chev in jackson for clutch adjustment, smell of burning odor, drivers door hard to shut, drivers seat belt locks up on straight and level. 3/1/99 engine quit while driving 35-40mph. towed to serra chevrolet. wire was found burnt at trans and dist. 3/6/99 truck again quit while driving at approx. 30 mph in 2nd gear. tires locked up and truck coasted to stop. this is a 4 lane,55mph highway. was nearly hit by vehicle behind. lost all power including steering. truck is again sitting at serra chevrolet here in jackson. this vehicle needs immediate recall for smell of something burning and twice for shutting off while driving, before it causes a serious accident.
