2000 s-10 extreme suddenly cuts off and will not start again even though tank is full. 2 mechanics say it is fuel sending unit inside gas tank. great expense to replace. researching on web find many, many other s-10 owners with exactly the same problem. *nm

While making a full stop on occasion , and then trying to accelerate, i have had no power as if it is fuel starvation. have replaced the fuel filter which is over priced for the second time. upon inspection of the fuel filter, a black substance seems to be blocking the fuel filter for no apparent reason. it must be coming from the fuel tank or a fuel line. after recently replacing the filter and making a quick stop and backing rapidly, i experience the same power failure. turning off the truck and restarting seems to help momentarily. *nm

Email fwd fm federal trade commission fm maurice twitchell(wa) re the defective gas filter in his 2000 s-10 chevrolet pickup.*mr the consumer stated while driving at 70 mph, with a half a tank of gas, the vehicle suddenly quit running as if it were out of gas. the vehicle started after sitting for a few minutes. the consumer drove the vehicle to the dealer and after it was inspected, the consumer was told the fuel pump and gas filter needed to be replaced. the consumer disagreed and stated the problem was the filter in the gas tank, the filter bends up so the pump sucks air instead of pumping gas. the consumer fixed the gas filter himself and the vehicle did not experience the problem again. *jb *cb

On 9-18-2004 fuel pump was replaced after i was left stuck in rush hour traffic the night before. on 9-23-2005 fuel pump was replaced after complained that the fuel gauge bounces up and down. they then replaced the fuel pump but i had to pay out of pocket for repair because i was 6 days beyond warranty. on 3-1-06 while at the dealership in va the car would not start yet again due to the fuel pump and i had to find yet another way home. *nm

Truck wouldn't start and would often stall after it finally started. acted like it had no fuel in tank. had to have it towed to replace the fuel pump system twice, which was very costly.

I was driving when vehicle engine just stopped. no warning at all. i was able to exit the traffic lanes safely. i was lucky that the traffic was light at that time. the vehicle is a 2000 chevrolet s10 pickup with only 41000 miles. initial problem was the fuel pump according to the chevrolet dealer. since this happened to me i've heard of two other chevy pickups having the same problem. *jb

I have a 2000 chevy s10 pickup with 15,000 miles on it. these vehicles are made to run on gas or ethanol. chevy put an experimental lining into the gas tank to prevent corrosion by the ethanol. this lining flakes off into the gas, causing staggering and stalling while driving. requests for a new gas tank have been refused by gmc, although the vehicle is now in for what will probably be the third tank and fuel system cleaning. it took a letter from the ct state attorney general's office to get an extended warranty for the vehicle. this vehicle is not safe to be on the road with this gas tank on it, and since the tow truck driver that towed it in last night could accurately diagnose the problem without driving it, i should think that there are a significant number of unsafe vehicles on the road. i feel it is only pressure from your office that will force gmc to recall these vehicles for gas tank replacement before someone is killed when their vehicle dies as they are driving at highway speeds. i do not know how many years if vehicles received these gas tanks, but if ever a problem warranted your attention, i think this one does. *la

I purchased a 2000 chevrolet s10 in january 2001. the fuel pump went out in february 2001. the dealer replaced the fuel pump and alerted me that there were a lot of problems with the fuel pumps on these vehicles. my truck was still under warranty with only 18,000 miles on it. i currently have 101,000 miles on it and after the fuel pump replacement i have not had any trouble with the fuel pump. there is a real problem with the fuel pumps in these vehicles. *ak

Faulty fuel pump unit. i drive a 2000 chevrolet s-10 pickup with less than 51,000 miles. i just recently had the fuel pump unit replaced for around $830., which included the necessary towing. my mechanic diagnosed the problem immediately and told me that they are replacing these fuel pump units left and right. he said that it appears to be a real problem with later model gm vehicles. he had another vehicle in his shop at the same time, and it had only 46,000 miles on it. my mechanic also said that these units should not be failing like they are, and that gm has a real problem unit here.*ak
