Tl*the contact owns a 2001 chevrolet s10. the contact noticed that the engine warning light was constantly illuminated on the instrument control panel. she took her vehicle to the dealer and they replaced the fuel filter. several months later, the engine warning light illuminated again. the contact took the vehicle back to the dealer and was informed that the pcm needed to be replaced. the vehicle has not been repaired. the manufacturer stated that there was no recall for the vehicle; therefore, she would have to assume liability for the repair cost. the failure mileage was 80,000 and current mileage was 146,000.

Transmission in my 2001 s10 chevrolet 4wd p/u failed as i was driving behind a school bus...children were let off and as i tried to accelerate, the transmission failed without warning and the vehicle behind me almost hit me from behind.. i pulled over to let vehicles pass and put myself in a position where i had to back up first to get back on the road.. i put my truck in reverse and couldn't move at all.. i found that i had 1st and third gear but no 2nd fourth or reverse..the transmission had no prior symptoms of anything being wrong.. when i took this vehicle to a dealer...i explained the situation and the mechanic knew exactly what had happened.. he stated that sun shell had broke inside the transmission..he then showed my several other broken sun shells he had to replace in other vehicles and how poorly they were manufactured and that gm had replacement parts made of a higher standard that was suitable for the application...he estimated the repair bill to be approximately 1600 dollars!!!hoping that there wasn't any other damage to driving further with this broken part...my question is this...if gm knows these parts a faulty and notified their mechanics to replace them with a part that they know will hold up to the task, why should the consumer be subject to a 1600 dollar or better repair bill, and why isn't there a recall on this??..the mechanic stated that he was surprised mine lasted as long as it did saying he saw this transmission part fail with as little as 35000 miles on them...i appreciate any help on this matter as i yet have to decide whether to have this repair done or not..i am really surprised at a company such as gm would knowingly sell vehicles with inadequate parts, and hope they outlast their warranties so the consumer would be stuck paying the bill to have their mechanics rebuild their faulty transmissions to satisfactory standards.....thanks for your time concerning this matter............tom. *jb

For 2 weeks the truck felt like it was hesitating somewhat when accelerating. then when driving home on dry pavement one night, a pop sound was heard & second gear was gone. from a dead stop, rpm's go up to 4000 or 4500 before it down shifts into 3rd gear. there is also no reverse gear. chevy says it is the sun gear that blew. truck has 78000 miles on it. you either rebuild it for $1600 with a new sun gear, or replace the tranny for $2600.

Horrible problem with the shifting of transmission. transmission was rebuilt 6 months ago due to the burn out of the 2nd and 3rd gear. shifting has not changed since the rebuild. vehicle easily slips out of gear and increasingly loses speed...no matter if the gas pedal is to the floor or not. truck will go 65 mph in 2nd gear with pedal to the floor and lose speed rapidly still. second, brakes lock up going over small bumps, and then seem to not want to work properly on occasion. lastly, tailgate cables have snapped after i sat on the tailgate (i'm 5'0 and 100lbs!!). *ak

Every three thousand miles the vehicle burns 2 1/2 quarts of oil. took to dealer to have oil consumption test, front end makes popping noise, sensor changed less than 1000 miles and transmission slips. nlm *yd

While traveling at 70 mph, vehicle started to down shift and the driver came to a stop, once going up a hill the vehicle started to lose power, driver pressed gas pedal, and there was no response, then suddenly vehicle took off. *ak. consumer stated when she stopped to make a turn, the vehicle would not move up the hill, and the accelerator pedal was to the floor, once the vehicle was put into low gear it moved.*jb

See odi 755882. i own 2 2001 chev s10 ls 2 wheel drive extended cabs. both have the same or similar problems. a. the molding along the bottom of the windows on the doors is loose and comes off easily. one of the trucks has already the moldings replaced. the windows sometimes go out of alignment and tilt out. b. the rear end clunks/clanks when shifting into reverse. no solution has been found yet. c. the tailgate on both trucks will not latch completely on the driver's side. one truck has been looked at by the dealer. the dealer said the truck would need to be repaired in a body shop. the frame and body components of the box would need to be straightened in order for the tailgate to latch properly. the repair has not been done on either truck yet. d. the most disturbing problem is the strange behavior of the brakes. both trucks have experienced loss of braking ability. when applying the brake in a quick stop or emergency situation, the brake pedal is firm yet no braking power is felt and the truck surges forward without slowing. both trucks have had the rear brakes lock up (the abs failed to engage). one truck had all the pads and rotors replaced at 500 miles. this corrected the loud rumbling sounds and vibrations from the brakes but did not improve the abs. the other truck now with 22,000 miles shakes violently at speeds over 40 mph when the brakes are applied. it feels like the wheels are seriously unbalanced or the rotors are badly warped. however, the rotors were checked and found to be in spec and the wheels were balanced. still the problem continues and is intensifying daily. the shop which checked problem called gm and was told a pulse is normal in all vehicles with 4 wheel abs systems. i drive over 1000 miles a week. i think i know the difference between abs brakes engaging and wheels about to fly off. i have spoke with several other 2001 gm truck owners at the dealership who are all experiencing problems with their brakes.
