 Tl-the contact owns a 1998 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the brakes repeatedly failed. the hubs, calipers, rotors, and the master cylinder were repaired three separate occasions. whenever the brakes were depressed, they would vibrate violently and seize. the vehicle was taken to two different mechanic shops for the repairs, but they could not diagnose the failure. the dealer was not notified. the manufacturer was notified and stated that there were no recalls or warranties available. no further assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 105,000. sm.

 Tl* - the contact owns a 1998 chevrolet silverado 1500. the 1999 model had a safety recall on the abs system. the contact was told that the safety recall did not apply to this vehicle due to the vin. . the contact stated that at a low speed the abs system would just turn on. the contact stated that on the way to the dealership to have the abs system checked the abs system turned on unexpectantly. didn'tnotice this until trying to stop. the contact stated that on the 3 different occasions she had been unable to stop the vehicle easily. the weather was cold, but clear, and each time she was coming to a stop. the current mileage and the failure mileage were both 35680. *ak

 Tl*- the contact stated that the abs on the1998 chevrolet silverado continued to pulsate and vibrate. the abs operated on dry pavement while driving at a low speed. this happened when coming to a stop. the vehic stopped and the abs engaged. the contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer and was given a case# 71-490-160-500. he stated that the manufacturer informed him that there was recall 05v379000 for the 1999 vehicles, but not for this vehicle regarding service brakes, hydraulic: antilock. the failure mileage was 71000 and the current mileage was 71600.*ak the wheel speed sensor and hub were replaced. the sensor failed due to road salt corrosion. updated 04/12/07. *jb

 1998 chevy 4x4 silverado-- steering problem--- best described as running over marbles, as steering disappears for a second. it happens frequently in all positions and speeds. when this sudden loss of steering happens, you loose control for that split second. was told by a certified gm mechanic that it is a common problem for that truck and a very costly repair. it just a matter of time before someone is hurt or killed by this problem. *tr

 Dt*: the contact stated that the vehicle's anti-lock brakes operated as if the wheels were locked up. plus, the brake pedal pulsated and vibrated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on 11/18/02 who determined that the front driver's side hub was bad, and replaced the hub at no cost. the vehicle was taken back to dealership on 06/26/06 because the abs in the front began having problems again. the dealer determined that both hubs were defective and declined to repair the problem at no charge. the vehicle was instead taken to another independent auto shop who decided to replace both front hubs with better quality parts.
