Have had a issue with the emergency brake of my 1999 chevrolet silverado auto transmission since it was new.took vehicle in under warranty to dealer for repair they only adjusted cable instead of changing pads.still did not solve problem, was told by dealer that lever going all the way to floor was normal as this brake was for parking not for emergencys and was not meant to stop vehicle only to gradually slow it down or hold on a incline.have since discovered that gm did a recall but only on models with manual transmissions.whats the difference i still need a emergency brake too, should there be a recall for all models with that parking brake system.from what i have read and been told the pads were deployed and rubbed even without depressing emergency brake pedal and the pads wore out in no time as was my case

I have a 1999 chevy silverado. i have had to replace the brake lines due to a rupture as i was coming upon a 4 way intersection. thank god nothing was coming as i rolled through it. i made it home and to the shop the next day and had to replace all the brake lines. i have had to replace the parking brake pads on the rear which is a recalled item on a truck that has a manual shift transmission. what does the transmission have to do with brakes? shouldn't matter, just because there hasn't been an incident of a roll away with an automatic transmission. so why do they inspect the parking brake if you have an automatic transmission? because it is an emergency brake! with this truck you need it. you can find many complaints of the brake lines rusting out in the same year and make as my truck. there is an apparent problem with quality at gm and they should be held accountable. *tr

Parking brake on 1999 chevrolet silverado doesn't release completely and drags on the drum causing excessive wear on the drum and brake shoe. as the wear increases the brakes lose their ability to hold the vehicle. *jb

I have a 1999 chevrolet silverado and my abs light and parking brake light has came on recently. the braking on my truck is not very good in wet conditions. i found that it is a common problem on chevy trucks, and i was told that i should just remove the fuse. i was told it has something to do with the wheel hub assembly, and it is a costly fix. i think for once chevrolet should step up and put out a recall on this problem. there is also another common complaint about my dash cluster, which i had also found is a common problem, the odometer will go off and on when it feels like, and the gas gauge frequently goes up and down, and the fuel light comes on periodically. thank you for your time. *tr
