| Abs and parking brake lights will not go off. dealer has told me that the anti-lock brakes will not work in this condition. state of colorado will not allow my vehicle to pass the required emissions test with the vehicle in this condition. checked if there was a recall and there was but my state, colorado is not included in this recall (nhtsa campaign id number: 05v39000). | |||

| 1 = when i arrived at work, my right rear wheel was severely heating up causing wheel to smoke and smell of brake pads burning up. 2 = first time occurrence, no sound of intermediate scraping noises heard from rear of vehicle while driving. 3 = took truck to repair shop, they determined the emergency brake pads came into contact with parking brake drums, causing heat build up which burned up the caliper, brake pads and brake hose and then told me there was a 9 page safety recall already issued by gm for this same exact parking brake defect. i told them not to repair the truck. i went to the gm dealer to have it repaired free. gm refused to repair the truck stating the safety recall (i.e. # 05042b) only effected vehicles with manual transmissions and my truck is automatic. please note: i used to be naise certified in brakes. i asked the service mgr what difference is there in any of the brake component part numbers between a manual and automatic vehicle of this same year and type. there is no difference. if i went to the auto parts store for any one of the emergency brake components, brake pads, rotors, calipers they would never ask if the vehicle is manual or automatic, they only ask the year and size of motor. if the parking brake can fail on a manual transmission vehicle, and there is not one difference in part numbers then it can fail on an automatic vehicle. the gm service manager agreed but said he couldn't do anything because the recall states manual transmission vehicles. i said you know it has to be a typo error on the recall document. my automatic vehicle had a contact condition between the parking brake pads and the parking brake drums and my parking brake was not applied. the recall states this is the root cause of the same identical failure on a manual transmission vehicle. same parts, same assembly line, identical safety issue. *tr | |||

| 2000 chevy silverado. the parking brake has had premature wear on left side causing metal to metal contact with the shoe and the rotor. happened at 40,000 and 85,000 miles. replaced rotor and brakes both times. recall #05v161000 addresses this problem in trucks with manual transmissions only. worn emergency brake reduces brake holding power and causes expensive premature expense. *tr | |||

| The parking brake shoes on my 2000 chevrolet silverado 1500 have required numerous replacements. i have to replace the parking brake shoes every year before having my truck inspected. even after being replaced, the parking brake barely holds on even the slightest incline. *tr | |||

| Same parking brake problem as covered in recall on trucks with manual transmission, only mine is an automatic and not covered. parking brake has seldom been used yet pedal goes all the way to floor and does not hold vehicle securely since 30,000 miles, and cannot be adjusted. parking brake shoes are worn abnormally while rear disk brake pads (original) are barely worn. this is a terrible design and needs a recall. internet forums are full of complaints similar to mine on this vehicle. | |||

| Parking brake does not work in my 2000 silverado 1500 equipped with an automatic transmission. understanding that a recall for the manuals has been made, i feel that it is necessary to do the same for automatics, to relieve undue stress on power train when parked on a hill. the parking brake has not worked since the truck reached 36,000 mile's. *nm | |||

| 2000 silverado 4 wheel drive vin 2gcek19t6y13xxxxx rear brakes corrode every 8,000 miles to the point of being totally ineffective at stopping the vehicle. also parking brakes require readjustment at 8,000 miles because they wear out not even being used. this i see was a recall for manual transmissions, automatic transmissions suffer the same problem but no recall.nhtsa recall#05v1610000.the rear brake pads wear out every 30,000 miles the front brake pads every 100,000 miles this i believe is the cause of many vehicle accidents ,this is because the vehicle is only being stopped by one set of brakes which causes the abs to come on prematurely.this all started in the year 2000 and still continues today november 2006. *nm | |||

| Dt*: the contact stated while the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic shop for brake service, it was determined the rear parking brake pads were worn out. the mechanic also found a nhtsa recall #05v161000 regarding the parking brake via website similar to the problems the vehicle had. the manufacturer was contacted and expressed that the recall was for vehicles with manual transmissions. the contact's vehicle had an automatic transmission, but had the same problems stated in the recall. updated 10/30/06. *jb | |||

| Parking brake failure. the parking brake has failed to secure vehicle. i realize that recall has been made for manual trans but this has gotten progressively worse and now total failure. failed safety and state vehicle inspection. the internet boards are filled with examples of failed parking/emergency brakes on 2000 yr silverado. this constitutes a design defect and gm needs to address. linkage is now locked in open position effectively providing no emergency brake. this in addition to the failure of the fuel sensing module in fuel tank and the abs brake shudder/failure problems at lower speeds. i just want it on record that gm puts out these trucks yr/yr with these know problems and doesn't correct these safety issues until the nhtsa puts their weight behind it. thx *cbc *nm | |||

| Parking brake failure as in recall #050042 except my vehicle is has an automatic transmission. parking brake fails to hold vehicle securely on an incline. also, parking brake pedal has now released with such excessive force that it has exceeded its normal range of motion and has become mechanically locked in the up or released position rendering it inoperable. *jb | |||

| Recent vehicle inspection rejection due to parking brake failure to operate on 2000 chevrolet silverado. the parking brake failed to operate at a very low mileage on this vehicle. repairs led to hundreds of dollars. i am aware of a recall on vehicles equipped with manual transmissions, did chevrolet equip auto transmissions with a different parking brake system? this auto maker should step up and correct this problem on all affected vehicles,thanks vr. *tr | |||

| My parking brake has failed on my 2000 silverado 1500, 2 times. the parking brake became engaged while driving (the pedal was up and no light was showing) causing the vehicle to drag. it had to be towed to a garage to have the parking brake shoes and clip replaced. *jb | |||

| Tl*the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet silverado. the contact noticed brake fluid leaking and stated that the brake pedal must be depressed to the floor in order to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to the dealer on july 16, 2007. the dealer stated that the brake lines and brake pipes needed to be replaced. the contact drove the vehicle into her garage door at 10 mph. the garage door has been replaced. the current mileage was 59,000 and failure mileage was 54,000. | |||
