I stepped on brakes and they went to floor. had to go to garage and replace entire brake line system. this is a major problem because i have asked a few people who own chevy pickups and they all have had same problem. *tr

I was driving and pushed the brakes to slow down and the pedal went close to the floor and just barely slowed down enough to turn off the road. luckily no other vehicle in my way because i couldn't stop quick enough. turned out one of the brake lines rusted through and the rest are that rusted that they'll have to be replaced. *tr

Rear brake line rusted out. thank god i was going slow and there was not much traffic. when fixing the brake line i notice the rear dust shields were completely gone and the frame had alot of rust. fast forward 8-20-12 when working on the front brake lines because they rusted out too. i had the truck up on jack stands. came home to find the front end on the ground. the frame broke completely into, at the cross member for the torsionbars. i have been told that is one of the strongest parts of the frame. what would of happened if i was going down the road. ## vin passed ## chevy 1500 2000 ## *tr

The brake lines on my truck rusted out, causing a loss of vehicle braking power. of all the vehicles that i've owned over the years, i have never had a brake line rust out! on 11/13/2010, the driver side front line rusted through when my children and i were in the truck. in a restaurant parking lot, i noticed that the brake pedal went low, but the vehicle seemed to still have braking power. i drove about 3/4 of a mile to a gas station and had almost no braking power when i got there. i looked under the truck and brake fluid was spraying out! my truck was towed home and the next day i spliced in a replacement brake line, but noticed that they all seemed to be very rusty. in august of 2012 another brake line rusted through, this time while the truck was in my driveway. i had started the truck to leave, and pushed on the brake to shift out of park and the pedal went to the floor. i exited the vehicle and saw brake fluid spraying underneath the truck. at this point, i decided to replace all of the faulty factory brake lines with after-market stainless steel brake lines. i'm still in the process of doing this job, as it is very maintenance intensive job, and i don't have a lot of time to work on the vehicle, but luckily i have other vehicles to drive. i do not think that the brake lines should have failed so quickly, considering i've never experienced a brake line failure on any other vehicle. it appears that chevrolet selected an improper type of steel to use for the brake lines. *tr

I own a 2000 cheverolet silverado 1500 4wd pickup. it is an extended cab shortbed, with the 5.3l engine and automatic transmission. the abs brakes engage when applying the brakes at slow speeds. the truck then continues to move and is extremely difficult to stop. when the abs engages it is always at low speeds (less than 10mph) and does so regardless of driving conditions and road surface conditions. the stopping distance is dangerously increased. i have not had an accident yet, but come very close. i have researched this problem and learned that it is very common. gm issued a technical service bulletin in the us,tsb#03-05-25-007a) and a recall in canada for this exact problem. the problem is due to debri and or rust on the front wheel speed sensors. i plan to unplug my abs fuse until i am able to perform the procedure listed in the technical service bulletin. i find it very negligent of gm to not notify owners of models affected by this problem and not encourage their dealer network to notify owners of vehicles affected by this problem. failing to stop in time, even at low speeds, can easily cause property and vehicle damage, personal injury and death. thank you, scott bean *tr

I received a recall notice in 2006 for the speed sensors on my 2000 silverado. the dealer lubricated the speed sensor. in november 2007 the abs brake activation started again. i took it to the dealer and the day chevrolet service department said they couldn't get it to occur. it continued to get worse and began to occur frequently when stopping at a red light or parking. in april 2008 i almost wrecked into the car in front of me when parking. i took it in and they replaced the speed sensor. they said this was not covered under the recall. the bill was $442.23. i could not have my truck unless i paid for it. i escalated it in gm and got a call this morning that said the final ruling from gm is that they will not pay for the speed sensor replacement. they said they already satisfied the recall in april 2006 when they lubricated the sensor. there is no further escalation available. *tr

Applied the brakes at a traffic light and the peddle hit the floor. on inspection i could see fluid leaking from the brake line. took it to the chevy dealer who tells me all of the brake lines need to be replaced due to rust, as well as the abs and caliper. i had the abs sensors replaced 2-3 years ago due to rust, at a service center not at the dealer, and now the replacement ones are bad. so i'm thinking gm is using substandard parts and replacement parts are even more substandard. the abs sensors were already under recall, i having not understood how recalls worked took the truck in for the repairs after recieving notice of a recall, before experiencing problems. so when i did have problems the recall repairs were already exhausted; i inquired what the dealer did when i took it to them for recall; the dealer told me the cleaned the abs sensors to satisfy the recall order. so 2-3 years ago i had them replaced when they did rust and fail, now they are acting up again and need to be replaced. so now they want $3,200 to replace brake lines, caliper and abs.

The brake line running from abs unit to rear of truck ruptured in a parking lot in july of 2010. several months later, in december of 2010, both brake lines running from master cylinder to abs unit ruptured when backing out of my driveway. i noticed the front brake lines going from abs unit to each front caliper were corroded in early march 2012 and replaced before they could rupture. it's a good thing i replaced them because barely moving the lines resulted in ruptures in both lines before they could be unthreaded to be replaced. thankfully none of the ruptures resulted in an accident.

While going down my driveway i hit the brakes and the pedal went to the floor.i backed it back into the garage and found the lines on the rear differential were rotted and leaking. i replaced them but just got my truck inspected and was told i would have to have the rest of the lines replaced soon as they are rusted very bad and could go at anytime.this truck has been garage kept since i bought it in 2003 with 17000 miles on it. it now has only 51000 miles on it.

I was traveling west bound in the center lane of interstate 50 at approximately 55 miles per hour when another vehicle abruptly changed lanes in front of me while crossing the severn river bridge in maryland. i abruptly applied my brakes and the pedal went to the floor. there was a total loss of the main and emergency brakes. i was able to safely down shift and coast to the shoulder. upon inspection, i found a brake line under the cabin and under the drivers seat had corroded and broken at the hanger and brake fluid was draining from the line.

I've had to replace all my brake components such as, rotors, calipers, brake lines, backing plates, also the rear leaf spring shackles had to be replaced and welded in all due to metal corrosion or rust. now my latest problem is the rear shock mounts have broken due to rust so now my shocks are just dangling around not doing anything to prevent me from getting into an accident. but it doesn't stop there, the rear crossmember that goes from one end of the frame to the other is also rotted through so now i can't even repair the shock mounts because they mount to this crossmember which is now a piece of rotted metal! i can't believe how fast this truck has rotted through, i have a 1984 pontiac grand prix and i have never had to change or replace any of these parts because of rust. i have read that gm had used cheaper metal from china on their model trucks from 1999-2004 and didn't stop using them until all of the complaints started to surface. why doesnt gm take responsibility for the use of shoddy materials and compensate all the hard working people who have purchased their trucks for these years!!!!!!

My 2000 chevy silverado 1500 that i purchased new and now have 109,000 miles on it and has always been garaged. the brakes have failed on me 3 different times due to corrosion to the brake lines that rusted through. i have had the front brake lines replaced once in 2008 and the rear brake lines replaced twice in 2009 & 2011. the 3 times either my wife was driving or i was when the brakes failed, luckly we were able to get the vehicle to slow down enough to pull off into a field or breakdown lane of the highway avoiding a serious accident. 2010 had the rear shackle bracket replace because of corrosion that rusted through and in 2011 had to have the transmission cooler lines replaced due to corrosion.the frame has alot of corrosion and one of the cross bars is rusted through. i have owned different vehicles over 44 years and i always drove my vehicles for 10 or more years before getting a new one and never had a vehicle that had brake lines rust through and with this much undercarriage corrosion.

Front brake line rusted thru. truck had to towed to repair shop. 8 feet of brake line was repaired. while the mechanic was under the truck he said this was only the start, all the brake lines have very heavy rust. upon inspection by me, i saw exactly what the mechanic was stating. i was doing a simple u turn on my street when the brakes let out. there was no braking at all, the pedal was to the floor. it was very lucky i was doing less than 5 mph. the repair at the shop cost me $980.00. four calipers had to be replaced due to heavy rusting. this truck is a maintained vehicle. yes i do live in long island n.y. where there is snow removal but i have never had this type of rust on any of my vehicles. i keep many of my vehicles for 15 years do to the low mileage i put on a vehicle. i have never had this much rust on their brake lines nor have i ever had a brake rust thru. in addition i was under the impression that if the front brakes were lost you would have the rear brakes working to stop the vehicle. not so on this vehicle. this vehicle has lots of rust on all its brake lines. drive safety is an issue that certainly should be addressed. the truck is unsafe and a correction recall should be instituted. i understand nhtsa is looking into this issue as thousands of these vehicles have this problem. this problem is a huge safety concern as many people do keep their vehicles for many years, however i do read that vehicles much younger than mine also have this problem. gm has a problem, they know about it and they stand buy doing nothing. you folks (nhtsa ) need to step in and correct this deadly issue. as a side note,i do not complain about anything, but this safety issue has really gotten to me. i if i am involved in an accident or if my wife and family are in this truck the ramifications could be enormous. thank you for your time frank belano

When i stepped on the brake pedal to shift from park to reverse the pedal went all the way to the floor. i exited the vehicle and saw brake fluid coming from under the drivers side frame near the drivers door. upon further investigation it was apparent that one of the metal brake lines had rusted and ruptured. also all of the other brake lines appear to be severely rusted. vehicle was towed and awaiting repairs. it appears that this is a widespread safety issue with these model trucks after reading the numerous posts about it.

My wife and i were getting ready to go into town. when i stepped on the brake to put the truck into reverse the pedal went straight to the floor. i tried it again and the same thing happened. i got out and looked under the truck. right under the drivers door i saw alot of fluid leaking. upon closer inspection the brake lines leading to the abs unit are very rusty, so much so that one actually burst. i had driven the truck earlier in the day and didn't notice anything wrong, no spongy brakes or warning lights. i tried contacting gm. all they wanted to do is have me tow the truck to a dealer and have them inspect it. i later called the dealer and talked with the service manager, he said gm probably wouldn't pay anything towards fixing the brake lines. as of yet i haven't repaired the rusty lines but i am going to save them in case there is a recall so i can show them to someone.

Gm pickup trucks -excessivie rust to brake lines, frame & cross-members. i suggest a metallugical analysis of said parts from late '90s thru 2007 vs '60s,'70's, & '80's models which did not exhibit early failure. the excessive rust to brake lines & undercarriage is a safety issue and is dangerous to the occupants of the vehicle and other motorist & pedestrians when failure occurs, not if, but when it occurs. the nhtsa has been aware since 2009 and it appears to the public that politics is in play. no results have surfaced, but plenty of dangerously rusted & unsafe vehicles travel the road amongst your loved ones.

I own a 2000 chevy silverado 1500. the vehicle has experienced three separate break failures due to severly corroded/rusted break lines. the first occured in 2008, the second in 2010, and the most recent was last week. we have had to replace several of the lines as a result. luckily, the loss of breaks has happened in areas/situations where we were able to avoid a crash. there is absolutely no warning when this occurs, and contrary to what gm has said, no break warning light turns on to warn the driver of the loss of break line pressure/fluid. this problem appears to be widespread, and needs to be addressed as soon as possible. thank you. the latest failure occured at 102,000 miles, the others occured at approx 87,000 and 93,000 miles vin # = 1gcek14v2ye326019

2000 chevy silverado brake pedal went all the way to floor and brakes barely worked. this happened at highway speeds and almost caused me to rear end the car in front of me.pulled off the highway and noticed fluid leaking from under the front of the truck. i crawled underneath and saw the fluid coming from the brake line going to the front passenger wheel. brake line was severely corroded and the area where the leak is occurring can be squeezed together with finger pressure. inspected the other brake lines and they all appear corroded with several places being very weak and can be squeezed together with finger pressure. searching on the internet, there seems to be plenty of other people who have experienced the same issue. some with more disastrous results.i am looking to replace all the brake lines with stainless steel.

I was braking while exiting my local exit on the highway when hydraulic brake pressure was suddenly and completely lost, sending the pedal to the floor. unable to stop in time, i went through the stop sign at the end of the ramp. luckily there was no oncoming traffic and i was able to take the turn and bring the vehicle to a stop on the side of the road. after getting the vehicle home on the emergency brake, it was obvious what happened, a hydraulic fitting ruptured from corrosion/rust, which depressurized the brake system. after replacing the fitting, a completely separate brake line blew out in a different location which would/could have caused a separate incident. it is clear that every brake line and fitting needs to be changed because of corrosion/rust.

My wife complained the brakes felt like they had air in the lines and stopping was difficult. when i went to bleed them i found that the front steel line was completely rotted and had a pinhole sized failure. i had a mechanic replace the lines and he was surprised at the level of corrosion all over the underside of this vehicle. the outer body is in perfect condition giving a false impression of being in good shape.

Rear left side brakeline failure due to rust on2000 chevy silverado 1500, on inspaction rust noticed on all brake lines. many similar reports from consumers on same complaint. newyork based vehicle, truck always washed undercarriage to remove salt from roadway in winter months. all lines need replacement...dangerous condition!!!!! please have your vehical inspested for your safety. no damage , crashed into curb in parking lot. i strongly believe these vehicles should all be removed from roads and fixed at gm expense. nhtsa has responsibility to enforce safety recalls but has yet taken due to influence of our nationlized car manufacturing company. due to the government ownership of this company, any failure to act responsibly on this matter should be seen as wanton neglect by this agency for the safety of the public at large & not just these vehicle owners. i fully intend to inform my local rep. to the failure of this agency to take seriously the consequences of continuing to allow 1.3 million trucks with known serious safety issues to remain operating on our roadways

While driving home on the interstate i encountered a traffic jam and had to apply my brakes. when i did, the brake pedal went to the floor and i had to use my e brake to avoid a collision. both front and rear brakes were lost and upon investigation i found most of my brake lines under the car were corroded. i have since replaced the front lines with a non corrosive material and am in the process of replacing the rear line. i did save one of the front brake lines.

I have a 2000 chevrolet silverado half ton z71 four wheel drive pickup truck. whenever i have to brake suddenly the brake's abs system kicks in if i go over a crack in the pavement. the brakes fail and i have to pump the brakes to stop the truck. my 16 year old son had a car accident with the truck due to this brake failure. he had to stop suddenly on the freeway due to a car accident ahead of him and the brakes failed when the truck went across the expansion joint in the freeway. he rear ended the car in front of him. if he had not slowed down to less than approximately 5 mph it could have been a very serious accident. i think truck's abs system has a design flaw in it and could cause serious results if not looked into. the chevrolet dealers said there is no problem with the system but it continues to fail in these situations.

I applied the brakes to stop my truck when approaching a stop sign and my brake pedal went to the floor. i coasted into the intersection and stopped. luckily there was no traffic. the vehicle was eventually towed to the dealer and the supply line to the rear brakes was replaced. it had failed due to rust.

I was driving my 2000 chevrolet silverado pickup truck at 40 mph and attempted to apply my brakes to make a left hand turn into the halfmoon fire department driveway. when i applied the brakes they suddenly dropped to the floor and the truck did not slow down. it could have resulted in a serious accident but i was lucky. i inspected the vehicle, after nursing it to a safe location, to find a severely rusty main brake line which had burst just in front of the gas tank on the underside of the truck along the frame. we plan on replacing the brake line ourselves and have not yet determined cost as this happened last night at 6:30 pm.

2000 chevrolet silverado 1500 4wd pickup - corroded brake line. front passenger brake hose to caliper end completely rotted (i.e rust), line leaked and lost pedal firmness. i immediately took notice and repaired my self with new line. all other brake line exhibit signs of severe corrosion along with fuel lines and transmission lines. i would not expect this severe corrosion on a 1970 chevy pickup, let alone a 2000. new steel brake lines are not availible; only the hoses leading to calipers. hard lines will need to be fabricated which is labor intensive and expensive. very dangerous.

One owner 2000 silverado 1500 lt, while pulling light motorcycle trailer going downhill - brake pedal went to floor. no brakes whatseover. driver was lucky enough to have room to gradually stop. brake lines rusted through - fluid streaming out. gm and dealer finally replaced defective lines (vehicle had less than 50k miles). 1 year later, remaining lines rusted out and failed. owner replaced at own cost and finally sold truck. gm failed to recognize symptoms of issue all along and provided less than acceptable support.

I have a 2000 chev silverado 1500 lt, which i purchased from my son on oct 17, 2009. prior to that my son experienced the right front bake line burst in june of 2009, which he had replaced. i had the brake lines checked at the chevy dealer who advised me to replace all the lines. chevy does not offer pre-made brake lines, meaning they have to to be made up individualy, at a huge expense. according to office of defects investigation there are 110 owner complaints such as mine. the complaints allege the loss of braking effectiveness due to brake line rupture because of corrosion. in 37 of these complaints the brake line failure was confirmed by a dealer inspection. three compaints allege that corrorded brake line failure reulted in a crash. my wife and i are retired and trying to enjoy our lasting years and hopefully gm will resolve this issure. our lifes are worth more than brake lines.

At a chevy dealer for an oil change and check. was told truck was ready. in route, they called and told me there was a leak in brake line and that brake lines were rusted and brittle. i was traveling and had no choice but to repair brake lines. they replaced brake lines and connectors from the abs unit back to rear wheels @ incredible cost. when i got home, i went to trusted dealer and was told that the rest of the brake lines were also rusted and that i would have to replace them too in the near future. the brake line puncture happened when it was at the dealer. there was no leak before it went in for service. they refused to tell me how the leak occurred except to say that the lines were rusty. i just read in paper about a nhtsa investigation into brake failure on older model chevy trucks. i live in new york. the truck is well taken care of, regularly serviced, and had just above 80,00 miles. the dealer told me i was lucky the brake lines did not rupture when i was driving. they told me the brake line rupture was because of corrosion, and the dealer back home told me that all the other brake lines needed to be replaced because of corrosion. i've already been taken to the cleaners. to replace all the brake lines will put my expenditures far over what the truck is worth. to add insult to injury, my rear differential had to be replaced on my trip. i was given no reason for why it went (another $2600). the last thing that happened was a rust-related leak-out of the power steering fluid. never another chevy. horrible truck, horrible company. incidentally, long-bed chevy trucks apparently always have vibration that they never fix, even if complained about, apparently because they can't. an overall defective truck, perhaps more appropriately a defective manufacturer. believe me, it does no good to try to work with the company to deal with any kind of problem, including warranty problems. they were always so unresponsive, you just give up. *tr

I have a 2000 chevy silverado 1500 extended cab. i noticed a brake leak under the driver side door. on further investigation i found that all of the brake likes to and from the abs module were badly corroded with at least 1 leaking. upon further investigation there is a great deal of corrosion in other parts in the same area. this truck has 145,000 miles. this is all highway miles. found that nhtsa has openned an investigation with gm on corrosion in brake lines in 1999 thru 2003 trucks. want to register with nhtsa on this same issue. was going to pay to get it fixed because its too dangerous to keep driving it, now going to sit on the truck to await outcome of nhtsa investigation.

On december 12, 2009, my 2000 chevy silverado was involved in a two vehicle collision as a result of my abs sensors activating at low speeds. i was unable to stop the vehicle which in normal hard braking would have stopped with out problem. there was damage to my front bumper as well as the vehicle in front of me. apparently recall service work was performed on november 11, 2005 to fix the exact same problem that plaques nearly 1.3 million gm trucks from 1999 to 2002. the abs sensors become corroded and activate at low speeds, greatly increasing the stopping distance of a low speed breaking situation. the recall may have replaced the sensors but it did not solve the problem as i am now a victim of the same failing sensors nearly 4 years later. i had no warnings that the sensors was not operating correctly and until the crash occurred and i researched the problem, i had no prior knowledge of the corrosion problems with the abs sensors and the recall gm issued as a result. i feel that the original recall did not solve the problem and gm should be telling consumers about this ongoing problem. *tr

My 2000 chevrolet silverado pick-up truck resides in the salt belt area of the us and has experienced brake line rusting which causes without warning total failure of brakes. i experienced this failure with the front brakes in december of 2008 and again last week, this time the rear brakes. the dealer and general motors will not assist in the cost repair and will not do anything to correct this severe safety concern. i had all the front brake lines replaced by gm after the failure last year when the brake lines rust through, there is no fail safe in the brake system and you experience total loss of brakes. i don't know what is required for a safety recall, but these brake line are substandard and need to be replaced by gm before a loss of life. *tr

I did the recall for my brakes on chevy silverado 2000 but still the brake line was cut by the rim i think this is not safe to have 16 inch rims on. it is better to upgrade to 17 inc rim i talked to gmc but they said the recall fixed the line, but it is still too close to the rim. in the event if the vehicle hits a pot hole the rim then it will cut the brake line and fail. *tr

Was coming to a stop at a low speed, the abs kept activating and prevented me from stopping my vehicle. what stopped me was the truck that i hit, causing damage to my truck but no damage to the delivery truck. at that time i opened the hood on my truck and disconnected the front wheel sensor rendering my abs inop. that's the way my abs will remain till chevy admits the system has flaws and there is a recall. *tr

2000 chevrolet silverado w/ 99k miles. the brakes failed while my wife was driving. i had the truck towed home. upon visual inspection, i found that the rear steel brake line had ruptured, due to corrosion (rust). apparently, these are not stainless steel lines. this line is located along the left frame rail. about 2 inches before it connects to the rubber brake hose, a large section of it was rusted. a quick internet search reveals that many silverado owners have had the same bad experience. if my other 3 vehicles had the same problem, i would then agree that it was most likely due to road salt. however, this is the only vehicle i have owned that has had this happen to it. *tr

Gm refuses to correct abs problem. my 2000 chevy silverado is experiencing a low speed abs brake activation which causes an extended braking distance. this vehicle was served by the dealer in 2005 for the recall (nhtsa action number pe05020). the problem has now started again and gm refuses to take any action since they say the recall was performed already and that the vehicle is out of warranty at 83000 miles. *tr

Driving at slow speeds and applying the brake to stop the pedal had a chatter feel to it and then the pedal went to the floor and i could not stop. at that time i had to swerve to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of me at the stop light. this has happened a few times. this also happened pulling into a parking lot and the truck jumped the curb and bent my plow mount. i am fortunate to have not hit the vehicle or someone or something else. the most recent time was 3/24/09. i took it to the dealer this morning hoping they can figure out what the problem is. they say it might be the speed sensor, but if it something else like the abs control module that thing costs over $1000 plus labor maybe the manufacturer should look into this if this might also have a problem with this unit. *tr

1 = when i arrived at work, my right rear wheel was severely heating up causing wheel to smoke and smell of brake pads burning up. 2 = first time occurrence, no sound of intermediate scraping noises heard from rear of vehicle while driving. 3 = took truck to repair shop, they determined the emergency brake pads came into contact with parking brake drums, causing heat build up which burned up the caliper, brake pads and brake hose and then told me there was a 9 page safety recall already issued by gm for this same exact parking brake defect. i told them not to repair the truck. i went to the gm dealer to have it repaired free. gm refused to repair the truck stating the safety recall (i.e. # 05042b) only effected vehicles with manual transmissions and my truck is automatic. please note: i used to be naise certified in brakes. i asked the service mgr what difference is there in any of the brake component part numbers between a manual and automatic vehicle of this same year and type. there is no difference. if i went to the auto parts store for any one of the emergency brake components, brake pads, rotors, calipers they would never ask if the vehicle is manual or automatic, they only ask the year and size of motor. if the parking brake can fail on a manual transmission vehicle, and there is not one difference in part numbers then it can fail on an automatic vehicle. the gm service manager agreed but said he couldn't do anything because the recall states manual transmission vehicles. i said you know it has to be a typo error on the recall document. my automatic vehicle had a contact condition between the parking brake pads and the parking brake drums and my parking brake was not applied. the recall states this is the root cause of the same identical failure on a manual transmission vehicle. same parts, same assembly line, identical safety issue. *tr

Hwy stop and go due to 3 collisions, traveling between 4 to 10 mph for approximately 1 hr, exited to get out of traffic for gas when the brake went to floor. i pumped brake to no avail. i had no choice but to continue to travel 150 miles on the hwy to return home to children. brakes did not return until exit home. i live on the gulf of mexico and sand is everywhere and from what i see my 2000 cheverolet silverado has a recall for corrosion 05v37900 and gm id 05068b, c, but i don't live in the salt belt area i live in corpus christi, tx. this has happened a total of 3 times in the last 1 1/2 yrs. i now have to drive leaving a minimum of 3 car length to assure when stopping its going to. i have had it check w/brake check who states they think it is a vapor lock, put everything at the time check out fine, but was told to bring it back if it happens again. i googled the problem on line when i found that a recall was in effect, but i was not notified of it due to my location. i have scheduled an appt w/ champion cheverlot here in corpus christi, tx, but have been told i have to pay for a diagnostic testing of $93.00, when i don't want it tested i want this particular item to be inspected and corrected if necessary under the recall due to corrosion from living on the coast. the other instance was again after several slow starts and stops. i tuned off truck and when i went to start and place in gear, the brakes went straight to the floor, it seems like something isn't releasing in the brakes, pump them get very little pressure, then all of a sudden there back in full strength, it is very frightful. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet silverado 1500. on several occasions, the contact has experienced failures with the brake system. the initial failure began when he would apply the brakes and the brake indicator would illuminate on the instrument panel. he then heard a grinding noise and the brake pedal would vibrate and extend to the floor. the contact would have to release the brake pedal and then pump the brakes in order for the vehicle to come to a stop. the vehicle was taken to local repair shop and they stated that the brake pads and rotors were failing. the vehicle was repaired. the vehicle was then taken to the dealer to have a recall repaired for the speed sensor cable in 2006. over the next couple of years, the vehicle was taken to the local repair shop to have the brakes inspected because the brake pedal was still grinding and vibrating. the vehicle was inspected and it was determined on several occasions that there were no failures. the vehicle was taken to a local repair shop on december 16, 2008 and the mechanic stated that the brake pads and rotors were functional; however, the speed sensor control failed due to corrosion. the vehicle has not been repaired. the contact called the manufacturer and was informed to take the vehicle back to the dealer for inspection. they further stated that no compensation would be made regarding the speed control sensor because it was previously replaced. the failure mileage was 50,000 and current mileage was 84,000. updated 2/5/09 *cn updated 02/10/09. *jb

I own a 2000 chevy silverado with brakes that are soft. this condition has been since day one and i consider the vehicle dangerous to bring to a stop. i trailer a 3000lb boat, and even though the boat's trailer has brakes, it's almost impossible to make an emergency stop. the truck is maintained properly, and is considered in excellent condition by all who sees and or rides in it. i've had the brake system professionally serviced, including a system bleed, but this condition persists. other than the soft brake feel problem, i like the vehicle. *tr

2000 silverado 4 wheel drive vin 2gcek19t6y13xxxxx rear brakes corrode every 8,000 miles to the point of being totally ineffective at stopping the vehicle. also parking brakes require readjustment at 8,000 miles because they wear out not even being used. this i see was a recall for manual transmissions, automatic transmissions suffer the same problem but no recall.nhtsa recall#05v1610000.the rear brake pads wear out every 30,000 miles the front brake pads every 100,000 miles this i believe is the cause of many vehicle accidents ,this is because the vehicle is only being stopped by one set of brakes which causes the abs to come on prematurely.this all started in the year 2000 and still continues today november 2006. *nm

The abs failed in my truck, causing me to hit a trailer parked in my driveway. while gm has already repaired this under a previous recall, their repair obviously doesn't work. they were unresponsive about my complaint, since my truck had already been repaired. if someone would have been walking in front of my truck when the brakes failed, i would have killed them. it is one thing to have the radio quit working, it is an entirely different thing to have the brakes totally fail. gm needs to do something about this besides cleaning a couple sensors. there were no warning lights, no indication whatsoever of the impending failure. i backed up and the brakes worked fine. there are still no warning lights. i spoke with the dealership and their answer was there isn't anything we can test for this intermittent problem. we can try to get it to fail and go from there. i now have a 6000 lb projectile that i have no idea if it is going to stop or not. i removed the abs fuse until i can figure out what to do with this unreliable product. *nm

I have owned a 2000 chevy silverado ext. cab 4wd since december of 2001. today i was driving to work, and it was wet out. i was traveling at 25 mph and as i was slowing to a light i completely stopped the truck. there was another car 10 feet in front of me. as i started to pull away at around 4 to 5 mph the car in front of me started to slow because of traffic. when i hit the brake the abs motor started to pulsate so fast the truck wouldn't stop and i never took my foot off the brake pedal. i then moved the shift lever to park and it still wouldn't stop. i then hit the car in front of me and then i finally stopped. the driver in front of me luckily had no damage to his car since i was only driving a few mph. i continued to work. the abs light never came on. as i left work to go to lunch, same day, i was pulling up to a light at a very busy intersection . i slowed way ahead of time and crawled to the light and just as i hit the brake to stop the same thing happened where the abs motor ran continuously and i couldn't stop the vehicle . i threw the truck in park and it still wouldn't stop and was starting to enter the intersection on a red light. i then stepped on the parking brake and it finally stopped. i was almost killed because a semi just started to pass me and he was traveling at about 50 mph. i then turned the truck around and went down the road to my work. as i was parking the truck at my work it happened again,3rd time. the truck is now out of the extended warranty and i can't see paying 1,500 to 2,000 dollars to fix this when it is a manufacturer defect. this particular problem should never happen. there should be a recall for this problem or someone is going to be killed, if that hasn't already happened. i will never feel safe driving a chevy/gm vehicle again and will tell everyone i know about this problem. just so it's understood i'm a very safe driver and have an excellent driving record. *nm

I own a 2000 chevy silverado pickup, when i slow down to come to a stop brake pedal goes to the floor and vibrates, drastically increasing my stopping distance. i have had many near miss accidents and slid out into many intersections. i took my truck to a repair garage and they stated my abs brakes were malfunctioning and they have seen the problem with other chevy trucks made that year. *tr

I have a 2000 chevy silverado pickup which i purchased new at 36,000 miles i was forced to replace all four rotors and brake pads due to excessive rusting on the inside surfaces of the rotors especially the rear. lately i have experienced the rear brakes hanging up or dragging on the rotors so i checked them. i found the same problem only worse. now both dust shields on the rear are rusting away, the passenger side is completely gone, at 76,000 miles. this condition is both costly and dangerous to the public because the rust build up is so bad that the brake pad will not make the required contact to stop the vehicle. it rides on the rust not a clean smooth metal surface. i drive this truck daily so you would think this should not be occurring but it is. if you want to see more unanswered complaints about this problem go to,http://consumeraffairs.com/automotive/gm_silverado_brakes.html. i usually keep a vehicle about ten years on average and have never dealt with anything like this. why hasn't there been an investigation or recall on this? gm isn't addressing these complaints. so what are we waiting for,a few fatalities? also my anti-lock brakes haven't worked since i took the truck to the dealer for the recall. *tr

Sirs, i contacted you a few yrs. ago [belive in either 03 or 04] in regard to the rotors on my 2000 chevy silverado 1500 truck failing. at that time the truck had apprximately 45k miiles on it. when i contacted chevy about this problem, they told me it is an enviromental hazzard, due to where i live. i replied that i had new tires put on the truck in may {?} of that year & the rotors were fine but when i took truck for inspection in nov. they were not. i asked how much salt they thought pa. used during the summer months? i recieved no reply. now here we are in jan., 2008. my truck now has 60 k miles on it & the rotors need replaced again?? considering this truck is driven an average of 7k miles per year, with 90% of that being during summer monthes, this is not an enviromental problem! this truck is only driven during winter monthes if there is an emergancy so it is extremely rare this truck is driven on salted roads. this truck is also garaged at all times, i wax the firewalls, armor all & clean the truck weekly. also our driveway is along a rural road & the driveway is higher than the road surface. i have gone through your complaint list & i have found i am not the only person with this problem, in re:odi id #10158646. i honestly believe the only reason you have not recieved more complaints on this issue is due to too many people believe what the chevy reps. are saying about enviromental hazzard.i have had chevy employees tell me brand new cars, just off the delivery truck are also having the same problem & the dealerships are replacing the rotors before the cars are even put on the lot!! something is seriously wrong with the quality of these rotors & i really do wish you would investigate further before someone is hurt/killed. thank you very much for any/all help on this matter. i really do appreciate it. edward j. walker *tr

The brake lines from the master cylinder to the abs pump rusted out and failed. brake line failure resulted in no braking ability whatsoever. one was replaced earlier than the incident date below - approximately 2/07. truck was parked both times they failed so no accident or injury. got lucky, this is used as a tow vehicle for a trailer. the brake lines were replaced, the old lines are available. i don't have the vin handy, can supply on request. *tr

Driving north on garderstate parkway the brake light of my 2000 chevy silverado came on. i exited parkway at northfield exit and i applied my brakes. the brake pedal felt soft and the pedal went to the floor. i was able to make a left turn at the end of the exit ramp. the light at tilton road turned red i applied brakes the pedal went to the floor. there is a sunoco station on the corner which i coasted into. i checked under the hood fluid level was below the min. line. i added fluid into the reservoir. i got back into the truck and applied my brakes. pedal went to the floor again. i looked under the truck and noticed there was brake fluid running onto the ground. noticed a pep boys store about 1/2 of a block down the road. i waited till there was no cars coming and proceeded out onto tilton road toward pep boys. down shifted and applied brake pedal as i approached store. they checked the braking system and indicated that a brake line was leaking fluid. monday they repaired the truck by replacing about a five (5) foot section of brake line at the tune of $262.52 wow. i do have the old section of brake line that was removed. the old section of brake line is so heavily rusted the shop indicated it was very unusual. when i got home i looked at the repair and the rest of the line still in the truck and i am worried about condition of brake lines and the excessive rust that exist. i'm worried that there may be another leak, result might be that we are not as lucky the next time. the parkway is a 65 mph road and if i would have had to stop very fast doing that speed i truly believe i would never have been able to stop without injuries. i have always owned chevy's and i kept them for generally 9 to 10 years and i have never had a brake line rust out as did my 2000 chevy truck. i hope that this matter can be investigated. thank you very much for time spent in reading my long description of this occurrence. edward r glaser. *nm

I was driving on a heavily traveled road (in traffic) , as i approached a line of traffic a stoplight went to apply the brakes and nothing happened!! i then shifted the truck into first gear and veered toward the side of the road. a gas station wasn,t too far from the intersection so i drifted into there. ii lifted the hood and found no fluid in the reservoir, i then looked under the truck and discovered fluid (brake) all over the lot and the back driver side axle. i called a tow truck and had the truck towed. the next day i went to see him and he showed how bad the corrosion was on the brake lines. every brake line on the truck (from about six inches from the master cylinder) was rotted almost completely through!!! need less to say, i have to replace every brake line on the truck, which will be a fortune!!! did i mention the fuel lines? they too are also rotted!! it seems that everywhere that the steel lines were used, it is rotted i'll probably have to replace the fuel lines also in the near future. gm should be ashamed of themselves for selling vehicles with these kind of problems!!! *tr
