Chevrolet silverado z71 pickup truck, 3 door extended cab version. year 2000. severe body, brake line and frame rust through. frame members and fuel tank, exaust and shockabsorber supports rusting through and failing. creating very dangerous condition to occupants and other drivers. brake lines failed completely twice. brake caliper failure. vin: 1gcek19t8ye169894. have had to make body panel repairs and replacement to control rust through, have had a brake line failure while exiting i-10 in florida while on a vacation trip, could not stop at end of exit ramp and continued through a 4 corner intersection with only the use of the parking brake. almost caused a major accident with 3 vehicles. had to get emergency tow and repairs to continue return trip to massachusetts. second failure occured in traffic after leaving repair shop having had to replace a rusted left front brake caliper ! now, rear frame crossmembers are rusting through and posing a very dangerous condition to myself and others. chevrolet dealership in hingham, ma. appears not to be interested in making any repairs. body shop manager says, it's a poor design and poor materials ( steel ) used in construction.

Tl* - the contact called regarding the 2000 chevrolet silverado. the contact received recall 06v06600 for his tailgate hinges. the contact stated that the dealer was only willing to replace the tailgate support cable, but the tailgate hinges rusted and should be replaced as well. according to the recall, the hinges were to be inspected and replaced if necessary. before he received the recall letter the tailgate came off because only one cable hinge was holding the tailgate and this caused damage to the bumper. the failure mileage was 73,000, and the current mileage was 137,000.*ak

Gm pickup trucks -excessivie rust to brake lines, frame & cross-members. i suggest a metallugical analysis of said parts from late '90s thru 2007 vs '60s,'70's, & '80's models which did not exhibit early failure. the excessive rust to brake lines & undercarriage is a safety issue and is dangerous to the occupants of the vehicle and other motorist & pedestrians when failure occurs, not if, but when it occurs. the nhtsa has been aware since 2009 and it appears to the public that politics is in play. no results have surfaced, but plenty of dangerously rusted & unsafe vehicles travel the road amongst your loved ones.

Vehicle became very bouncy in the rear, would bounce enough to nearly spin out while driving. went to change rear shocks and saw that both cross members of the frame are rotted off. this supports the frame and is the attachment for shock mounts and gas tank. nothing has been done to the vehicle to correct this failure. vehicle is not safe or road worthy in this condition. (incidentally, experienced total brake failure and all brake lines had to be replaced two years ago due to rotting, as well as the gas tank straps. rocker panels are rusted out, as well as the wheel wells of the bed. i bought this used in 2004.

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet silverado 1500. ever since the vehicle was purchased, the engine has been making a strange noise. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they found no failures. the manufacturer stated that they were aware of the pistons striking against the metal because there was not enough clearance between the pistons and the cylinder. the manufacturer could not correct the failure and there were no recalls for the issue. the mileage on the vehicle has exceeded the warranty; therefore, the manufacturer will not assist. in addition, the contact heard a noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. the dealer stated that there was a slack in the rear, which could be repaired by replacing the yoke with a nickel plated cover. the repair was not performed because the contact feels as if the manufacturer should be responsible for the repair cost. the failure mileage was 87,000 and current mileage was 125,350. updated 06/09/09. *lj the consumer stated when the transmission shifted into 2nd and sometime third gear, the rear end of the vehicle sounded as if it were about to come apart. the engine also made a noise as if the valves were clicking and tapping. updated 06/10/09.*jb

Rear brake line rusted out. thank god i was going slow and there was not much traffic. when fixing the brake line i notice the rear dust shields were completely gone and the frame had alot of rust. fast forward 8-20-12 when working on the front brake lines because they rusted out too. i had the truck up on jack stands. came home to find the front end on the ground. the frame broke completely into, at the cross member for the torsionbars. i have been told that is one of the strongest parts of the frame. what would of happened if i was going down the road. ## vin passed ## chevy 1500 2000 ## *tr
