Brake lines rusting on my 02 silverado 1500
10/08/2008900001
Stopping the vehicle, the anti-lock brakes would kick in at around 3 to 5 miles per hour and the vehicle would not stop, would roll a few more feet. almost hit a woman and child in cross walk, had to stand up on brakes. this not stopping happened 5 or 6 times, this was the came reaction as in 2005 recall, called gm. gm chevrolet customer assistance center said, go and get this problem confirmed by a gm dealership, did oct. 9, '08 and they said corrosion build in same area, but because right front hub was replaced with a non gm part (after market part) they have no responsibility. this hub came with the sensor attached. in 2005 my 2002 chevrolet silverado was issued a recall for severe corrosion area between the front hub/bearing assembly and the wheel speed sensor. they found the left side sensor was missing an o-ring, they installed under the recall. the vehicle is doing the same thing and a local dealership service department confirmed this same corrosion problem. called chevrolet customer assistance center oct 10, 08. gm chevrolet customer assistance center called me monday oct, 20, '08 and said that once the recall was fixed, (how did they fix corrosion) the same problem is now my problem. when i dropped off the vehicle the brakes were bad, when i picked it up at the end of the day they were 10 time worse, really unsafe to drive. they did not charge me a dime, said that they would work it out with local rep. i will get the vehicle fixed, but how does this correct the problem? *tr

Brake lines and fuel lines must be replaced due to excessive rusting. blew a brake line and had no brakes at all. additionally, the frame has rusted through and had to be welded. looking at repair costs between $1500 - $3000 depending upon how this goes.

My 2002 chevy suburban rear lift glass has separated at both hinges. it is currently being held in place with 100 mile an hour tape while i am trying to find replacement glass. apparently chevy will not recall this although it seems to be very common and is an obvious hazard should the glass fly off onto a vehicle behind me. the chevy dealership is charging ~$900 for the part. *tr

Rusted brake lines possible brake failure
08/28/20081
The vehicle is a 2002 silverado 1500. the frame cross member that is located just in front of the gas tank has rusted out on the base of the mounts on each side where it is connected to the lower part of the frame. this makes the vehicle not able to be inspected in the state of vermont. the regional chevy rep said it isn't a common problem which leads me to believe it must be a defect in the undercoating done on my truck that allowed this deterioration to happen. the truck is well cared for and should not rust in such a basic structural component. *tr

Took truck in for state inspection, truck failed inspection due to rusted brake lines, power steering pump leaking , dealer said it would be $1228.43 to $1420.99 to just fixed the brake lines all lines needed replaced and calipers screws. power steering pump cost 535.00 to replace. poor quality ,high cost to fix and lack of safety on gm part for not covering rubber coating or using stainless steel lines to protect our family very discouraged with service tech said these are the prices. what happened to our safety. brake lines and gas lines should not be made of steel that can corrode and rust out and break. power steering pump with these few miles should not have gone out. my 1988 chevy truck never had these problems. there needs to be a recall. *tr
