2007 chevrolet silverado pickup trucks have a plastic piece holding the tail lamp in place. this is the entire light assembly unit on the rear of the truck which includes the brake lights, backup lights, running lights, parking lights, emergency flashers, turn signal, wiring harness etc., the entire rear light housing assembly. factory workers over torqued this plastic part at the factory. during normal driving conditions, this part breaks and the entire tail light falls off and dangles just inches above the pavement as the electrical wires are still attached to the vehicle. this is a very dangerous situation, especially if this happens at night. this happened with the right tail light at 20,000 miles which was replaced, and again with the left tail light at 46,000 miles which chevrolet refuses to take responsibility for. this is certainly a very dangerous situation which could cause injury or death if on a busy freeway at night. be careful, as you have no way of knowing this while you are driving. the entire tail light, when it falls out, is hanging and dangling about just inches above the pavement. imagine this at 65 m.p.h. another dangerous scenario would be if the tail light shatters this debris could very well hit another vehicle, motorcycle or pedestrian which could result in injury or death. or....if the wire broke and separated from the lighting assembly unit, this could very well gain speed flying through the air and hit a person, another vehicle or business/residence window/glass. i cannot stress enough how dangerous this is. chevrolet needs to recall every chevrolet and fix this dangerous problem. it is a well known problem with these vehicles and chevrolet will not accept responsibility. *tr

2007 chevy silverado 1500 with safety issues on exiting. consumer states that the passengers in the rear cannot get out of the vehicle without assistance from someone on the outside. *kb the consumer discovered he was unable to reach the release lever on the side of the front seat that would allow him to push the back of the front seat forward. he was also unable to reach the release handle on the front door. the consumer also stated any attempt to use the back windows as an alternate escape route would present a problem, as the window design only allows minimal partial opening. *jb

Driver's side seat welds that hold the seat on the frame/body broke causing noticeable creaking and grinding noises with slight movement when coming to stops or accelerating. this is an '07 silverado 1500 classic work truck. i have read of similar cases at other web sites. dealership is currently fixing the problem but, tried to put off the repair for a second time as though they did not want to do it. *tr

Tl* -the contact was driving a 2005 dodge durango at about 5 mph when a stick knocked off the serpentine belt. the contact said that he then lost power to brakes and steering as a result. the contact called the manufacturer and the dealer. the belt was replaced under warranty, but they said that there was no change that could be made to the truck to prevent this problem from recurring. *ak the consumer discovered the serpentine belt had been pulled from the engine by a small stick. the consumer discovered that then engine sits 10 inches back which allows road debris to enter. updated 02/22/07. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet silverado 1500. nine months after the contact purchased the vehicle, he had it detailed. he began noticing rust spots all over the vehicle and the undercarriage. the dealer stated that the failure was due to iron deposit from the transportation rail. an acid bath to repair the vehicle would cost $400. the repair was not performed because the vehicle was still under warranty. while backing out of the driveway, the contact heard a clanking noise. he took the vehicle back to the dealer for inspection. the dealer stopped the clanking noise; however, it recurred a week later. the vehicle has been to the shop at least eight times for the same failure, but there is no remedy to satisfy the issue. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and the contact stated that he would not accept the vehicle back unless all the failures were resolved. the failure mileage was 20,386.

The lack of height requirement for light trucks and suvs is absurd these days. what you have is 1/2 the vehicles not meshing with passenger vehicles. why don't all vehicles conform to the same height req? and when a truck is not pulling a trailer, should it be allowed to have the trailer hitch lance protruding from its bumper? what it the intend of such standards? without uniformity, are you really doing any good? has your agency brought this to the attention of legislators? thanks. *nm

2007 chevy 1500 silverado pickup bumpers - the bumpers on these pickups are inadequate. i realize the agency does not have a standard for pickups. this should be changed. i bumped into another truck this evening trying to get out of the parking lot. the impact had to have occurred at a mph range of 1 to 2 mph at the most. i stopped and inspected for damage on my vehicle as well as the other pickup involved. none was initially seen, even by a witness. however, upon further inspection a while late, a portion of my bumper (the plastic end caps) are now rubbing against the paint. i barely bumped another vehicle, now i have to shell over $1000 to fix some damage. you can not even see where the collision occurred (the face of the bumper) on my vehicle, just that the bumper is bent. whether it is a truck or car, 16 gage metal will not hold up to even the slightest collision. truck standards in general need to be raised! dustin grant *tr
