Tl*the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet silverado. whenever the contact attempts to use the passenger side seat belt, the belt will not release out of the retractor. this prevents the contact from using the seat belt. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the retractor spring needed to be replaced. the contact did not notice any differences in the seat belt prior to the failure. the vin was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 80,000.
Passenger's side seatbelt keeps locking up, and will not release unless passenger unbuckles ,causing a loss of protection. dealer has replaced seatbelt once, but defect keeps occurring. dealer will not replaced it again.*ak

I went to exit my vehicle, in park, when i bumped the #2 memory seat setting on door. the seat went all the way forward. i was unsuccessful at getting it to stop or go in reverse while it was moving forward. it was hard to get out of the seat. my ribs were sore for 1 day. the seat was never programmed before this. i believe this is a dangerous factory setting. i called chevrolet customer assistance and they were useless.

Since we purchased the truck we've had numerous troubles with the seatbelts locking up and getting tighter until we have to pull off the road and release the belt buckle. most times it happens to the rear seatbelts and from time to time the front seatbelts have the same problems. the problem starts when driving at any speed and hit a small bump in the road or a frost heave and the seatbelts lock up. we've tried to gently pull on the shoulder strap to loosen the belt, we've tried to jerk on the shoulder strap and the only thing that will loosen the belts is pushing the release button. if we drive off road to our camping area(we don't need to use 4 wd) the belts have gotten so tight that the release button was extremely hard to release. we face the problem of whether or not to use the seatbelts when driving off road. we have to stop every 5 minutes or so to release the seatbelts when off roading. since we have two children in the rear seats they must stay buckled in. even driving down gravel roads which is almost a daily occurrence living in our area of alaska, it's a royal pain to have to stop and unbuckly the belts. we've complained to the dealership several times about this problem and we always got their standard answer cannot duplicate customer concerns at this time they finally told me to bring the truck in when the belts are locked up so they can see the problem. so we did visit the service dept with 3 belts locked up and they told me no problem, we'll order new belts.they called me a day or so later and informed me that the seatbelts are designed that way. the seatbelts are called ratcheting seatbelts and the only way to prevent the belts from locking up is to pull the seatbelts out as far as they go and then buckle up. we've tried what the service dept suggested and the problem still exists. so now we're at a stand off. when is somebody going to make gm fix it's defective vehicles?i sure made a $30,000 mistake buying this truck!*ak
