Dt: the contact stated the abs sensor has been replaced twice. this failure almost caused two accidents. both abs sensors malfunctioned within 10,000 miles. the dealership replaced the first sensor because it was oxidized to the hub assembly. the second sensor was cleaned. there was a nhtsa recall campaign 05v379000 concerning the anti lock brakes, but the contact's state was not included in the recall. *ak the tire were cupped and had to be replaced due to a vibration coming from the vehicle. updated 01/11/06. *jb

At 36,900 miles i had the rear and front pinion berrings replaced on my drive train. i also replaced the tires which were worn out. the vehicle is not driven much (4.5 years old) as indicated by the mileage. i also experienced my accelorator being stiff when i attempt to depress it. i think gm needs to look into their shoddy transmission components. i also had the rear seal replaced at approximately 10,000 miles.*ak

Truck started vibrating, took a tire to a firestone dealer, they said that happens when tires arent rotated properly, i work at a auto service repair center, and my tires are rotated every 6000 mi faithfully, so i disagree.*ak (tiresize: p265r75r16)
Front tires started to show noticeable wear, cause could have been that the front end was out of alignment. they rotated the back tires to front and realigned the front end. same wear appeared at 5000 miles. goodyear told me the 23575r16 must be 35lbs on all four tires. the label on the door says 28lbs front end and 35lbs on rear tires. goodyear says the low inflation has caused permanent damage.

I was in the idaho mountains on a day trip when both rear firestone at tires went flat. i changed the most flat of the two and made it into a town on the spare and a flat tire. i put air in the flat tire and made it home. i contacted gm and they told me that the firestone at tires on their trucks were different than on fords and that their's were safe (yea right). i went to a tire retailer in my area and had all the firestone wilderness at tires (including the spare) removed from my truck and new tires (not firestone) installed. the tire installer verified that the problem was tread separation. i just wanted to ask you to please recall these killer tires. i was lucky and didn't kill myself and my family on our outing because of them. all it cost me was $500.00 for new tires to replace the garbage firestone wilderness at tires that chevrolet installed on my truck.*ak (tiresize: p26575r16)

While driving on the freeway at 75miles per hour the left rear tire had a blowout, the tire completely peeled apart. it took my husband about 1mile to come to a stop, during which time the tire caused damage to the paint , wheel well, tore off a mud flap, and bent the steel rim. the vehicle is a work truck so my husband purchased 4 new tires immediately the truck was vibrating because of the bent rim so he also purchased new rims. please let me know if anything that i might collect from firestone. i know his tires are not on the recall???but it came apart just like all the tires you see on tv and the internet...thanx in advance jo lachance. *ak (dot number: vn11bfc tiresize: lt245/75r1)

Despite repeated alignments and balancings, the tires vibrate, the vehicle pulls, and wet and snow performance is poor compared to other oe tires gm has used in the past, i.e. goodyear. i have discussed this problem with national tire and battery, and they are of the opinion that all wilderness at tires are defective and should be recalled. i have found many other owners of chevys trucks will similar experiences, and there are many people on the internet that have documented blowouts. it is time to act and get wilderness at tires off the road with a complete recall. thank you for investigating this matter. james cilecek, md. cjaimesw@hotmail.com. *ak (tiresize: 265 75 16)( dot number: tire size: 265 75 16 )

On july 6, 2000 on a 5 mile trip to town, i picked up a small screw in the left rear tire, about half way across the tread band. i heard the air leak as i left the vehicle, and i immediately took it 2 blocks to a tire store to be repaired before it went flat. the tire shop said it couldn't be repaired, as a sidewall bulge had formed from an internal delamination in the tread area leaking into the side wall area, and that it was unsafe to use. i relaced that tire at that time. on september 5, the left front tire was found flat in my garage. for the last month or so, i have noticed a cyclic growling noise, tied to the wheel rotational speed of the vehicle, that was similar to the sound a failing wheel bearing makes, but an inspection of the bearings found them in good condition. after replacing this second tire, the noise went away. the tire store advised me that a partial internal tread seperation can make the kind of cyclic noise i was hearing. i have put 25,000 miles on the truck in 6 months, with several high speed trips across nevada and utah, and two trips to mexico via the mojave desert, plus numerous freeway trips through the california central valley this summer. although neither tire failed at speed or suffered a tread loss, the fact that 2 of them have had internal lamination problems concerns me greatly. i am no longer confident of their safety. please advise me if other consumers have reported problems with this model and size, and if nhtsa is considering expaning the recall to this model, as other parties have already requested.( dot number: w273 wma tire size: p265-75r16 )

Tire blew out while traveling 55 mph. the damage to the tire was right where the tread and sidewall meet. when i took the tire to a firestone dealer i was told that it appeared to be a zipper problem. after the firestone warranty dept. was called i was then told that they couldn't tell why the tire had failed because i had obviously driven on it while it was flat. i informed them that it is hard to come to a complete stop from 55 mph., and that i had to drive aprx. a tenth of a mile to where i could safely pull off of the road. i was offered a replacement tire at either at 1/2 off or at dealer's cost i don't remember. the replacement also has the vd designation.( dot number: vd11b1c tire size: lt24575r16 )

The tires on my 2000 chevrolet silverado p/u were found to have severe cracks in the tread are, the cracks were significant enough to warrent replacement by the tire dealer. the manufacturer agreed to prorate the tires, which was a significant expense on my part. the tread wear was minimal. i as the tire dealer if there was problem with these particular tires he said no. after having my tires replaced i personally inspected six 1999-2001 chev silverado 2wd ext cab pickups with the same general tires, of the six , with milage from 7,500-42,000, i found that five of the six had the same cracking in the same area as did the tires on my truck.
