| This investigation involves the general motors corporation (gm)throttle body (tb) utilized in model year (my) 1999-2002 silverado, sierra, tahoe, suburban, avalanche and yukon (subject vehicle(s)) with 4.8l, 5.3l, and 6.0l engines. the tb valve may intermittently stick in a closed position.in such a situation, an operator may apply additional accelerator pedal force to increase engine speed.the application of additional accelerator pedal force, to open a stuck throttle valve, may open the throttle valve more than intended and, in turn, accelerate the engine and vehicle more than intended and reasonably expected by the driver.on august 1, 2002, the office of defects investigation (odi), of the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa), opened this engineering analysis.the investigation revealed that two factors may cause the defect: 1) tb manufacturing process problems; and 2) accumulation of deposits (a pcv system by-product) on or around the tb throttle valve and bore.odi concludes that the tb performs in a defective manner after analyzing gm | ||||||

| My wife was driving the vehicle. she stopped at a red light, in rush hour traffic, in the rain. upon accelerating from the light, the throttle suddenly became stuck wide open. she pushed the clutch, took the truck out of gear and managed to pull safely to the side of the road. the cause of the incident, was the air deflector in the throttle body. it broke off and fell into the throttle, wedging it open. dealer blamed poor maintenance, using premium gas in the truck, and told her to drive the sh*t out of it the way it is. the truck has always had all scheduled maintenance as recommended in the owners manual. *ak | |||

| I am writing to seek some assistance with an inferior product produced by gm. i have a chevy 2000 silverado z71 pick up that has piston slap starting at around 15k miles and progressively worsened which the dealer states is normal wear. this expensive vehicle also has a rear end bang into drive and then reverse again the dealer states is normal. recently i fixed a snapped cable for the drivers window which the same kind of cable was recalled for the tail gate cables. i have replaced recall items for the tail gate cables, drive shaft yolk and the abs sensors to which it is still not functioning properly. all of which when presented to the dealer and the response was it is normal, until the recall occurred. it seems the policy of a company which creates an inferior product is to state, it is normal to the consumer until the government steps when enough people complain and makes the dealer own up to the problems with the products and finally treats the consumer with more compassion, and to some degree decency. with the many problems with this vehicle the government needs to step in and help the consumer with the dealership resistance to fix the problems caused by more concern for profit than quality. *nm | |||

| On three (3) separate occasions over the past two years accelerator pedal has become very difficult to depress, enough so, that i became apprehensive to accelerate in a parking situation, so that i would let the vehicle pick up speed on its own until i was out in an open area. the dealer has cleaned the throttle body assembly on each occurrence. after the last service he charged $65.00 for this service. upon checking your website i see that this is not an isolated situation. i feel that the manufacturer should be made aware of this potentialy dangerous problem, and that a fix should made available at no charge to correct this problem. in regard to the second problem, i was very surprised, and disappointed when $1500 in repairs was necessary to repair the ring and pinion assembly in the rear end. the servicing dealer in all of these incidents was not the dealer that i bought the vehicle from, but it was tom gibbs chevrolet,bunnell, fl . | Battery weak, check engine soon light comes on while driving. replace fuel filter. *bf the vehicle was taken tot he dealer who scanned the pcm and found dtc for engine misfire and injectors not dropping fuel pressure when commanded. injectors 2 and 6 were cleaned. the cruise control light flashed on and off although the cruise control was not engaged. the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem. | |||

| My 2000 chevrolet 2500 silverado throttle sticks shut when first started. mine has a 6.0 liter v-8, but i know several people with different engines and model years with the exact same problem. the pedal sticks so hard that it takes a great deal of effort to make it release resulting in large burst of speed and loss of control. the dealers refuse to correct except under warranty which i no longer have. the factory knows there is a problem and dealers acknowledge as well but will not correct without being paid. this is a very dangerous problem. we have had several near misses. *nlm | |||

| The throtle body gets dirty and sticks and then you give it more gas than you intend and hit something like a garage or person. has been fixed twice and gm knows they have a problem but say it is up to me to keep fixing it so i don't have a accident all the silverados have the same problem every 25,000 miles. it is an engineering accident waiting to happen | |||
