Railroad hyrail vehicle equipped, after market, with hyrail wheel assemblies which allow the vehicle to operate on railroad tracks. once hyrail (flanged) wheels are retracted, the vehicle is operated over the highways and public roads like any other vehicle. on 7/27/12 near eagle nest, az a railroad employee was operating vehicle on the railroad tracks when it struck a standing train at 38 mph. airbags did not deploy and rail employee was killed. concern is that the installation of hyrail wheel assemblies might be impacting the airbag sensor. the hyrail wheel assemblies extend approx. one foot of steel framework ahead of the front and rear bumpers. the placement of these assemblies might inadvertently be affecting airbag deployment in crashes on the railroad track and on public roads. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet silverado. the contact stated that while traveling approximately 35 mph, a vehicle ahead of him made an unexpected left turn. the contact proceeded to crash into the front of the preceding vehicle and the air bags did not deploy upon impact. the contact was injured and a police report was filed accordingly. the vehicle was towed to a local dealer where unknown repairs were made the vehicle was traded in. the vin was not available and the failure mileage was approximately 28,000.

We have a 2007 chevrolet silverado. the problem is that all of the electrical components on the dash quits, the radio, the gauges, the air conditioner, air bags don't work, the stabilititrack is off, the traction control is off,and the truck shuts off. this is the second time it has happened but this time a message comes across the speedometer that say engine power reduced and it is missing very bad. the first time this happened the engine did not miss and that message did not come across the screen. the problem resolved its self the first time and it has been a few months since the first time that it has happened again. *tr

I was driving my 2007 chevrolet silverado on a highway at approximately 65 mph during a light rain shower when there was a loud bang sound similar to a shot gun blast and the seatbelt pre-tensioners pulled myself and my passenger hard back into the seats. the hazard lights began flashing immediately and the airbag sensor light came on. contacted onstar to run a diagnostic and they showed there was a collision detected which fired the seat belt pre-tensioners. there was no collision, not even a bump in the road that caused this. this was a very startling event that easily could have caused a panic reaction and an accident. there was a smell of spent gunpowder in the cabin of the vehicle after this occurred. we unlatched our seat belts to relieve the pressure against our bodies and noticed they would not retract or pull back out. they are now useless. the injury was a bruise to my left collar bone where the seatbelt retracted. the vehicle is now not safe to drive since the seat belts don't work and for fear of the airbags deploying. *tr
