Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500. while driving approximately 45 mph the contact noticed that the speedometer displayed an inaccurate reading regardless of the speed rate being driven. the vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunction at this time. the contact had concerns of the safety risk involved. the failure mileage was unknown.

I was driving down the road in my 2005 chevy silverado 2500 hd when i noted the speedometer reading >90 mph (i was not going that fast...towing a 5th wheel camper). the speedometer continued to malfunction and has not returned to correct operation since. there is little doubt this is a safety issue and apparently is a consistent problem with many 2002-2005 chevy vehicles. this vehicle has only 36000 miles on it and has not been abused. issue is not yet repaired as it happened only yesterday. *tr

The speedometer on my 2005 chevy 2500hd 4x4 gave out at about 27000 miles two months ago. we were pulling a trailer on mountain roads at the time. knowing your speed in the mountains is important and this could have been a deadly problem. gm has known about the problem and i understand did a special policy on 2003 and 2004 vehicles. there needs to be a recall and the defective parts fixed before someone is killed. please help us out and do not let this faulty equipment game continue just to make or save gm money at buyers expense and safety. *tr

Shortly after truck passed 36,000, the speedometer stopped showing the correct speed. it will fluctuate showing between 90 and 120 mph. when searching for information in the internet, i found this is actually a common problem with the silverado trucks. *tr

2005 chevy 2500 hd speedometer failure @44,000 mile. the speedometer went to 120 mph at 55 mph, sitting still it would still read 60 mph. dash cluster had to be replaced under my extended warranty. *tr

I have a 2005 chevrolet silverado hd2500 pickup with 32660 miles on it. the speedometer suddenly went wild while i was driving. i had just exited a 75 mile an hour freeway and immediately had to reduce to 25 miles an hour. the speedometer registered all over the chart. i am learning it is the instrument cluster and gm has not issued a recall. it will cost $500 to get repaired. i am not driving it now. i have also learned this is a common complaint. *tr

2005 chevy silverado 2500 hd. at approx. 50,000 miles, the speedometer started acting up. stuck and registered incorrect speed. i was able to reset it. now at 78,000 miles, the speedometer will not stay correct. *tr

At 26,000 miles the speedometer on my 2005 chevy silverado started to slowly down. is has happened 5x in the past 6 trips. it is very dangerous because twice i was pulling a travel trailer on mountain roads where speed is a big safety issue. too much speed and off a cliff we go. a research on the internet shows this is ad has been a major chevy issue and they need to recall it and pay people back who have had to have it fixed. *tr

I own a 2005 chevy silverado. the speedometer fluctuates between 50 and 70 miles an hour. it also sticks when slowing down from 10 mph to 0 mph. talked to service rep at local dealer, he was aware of the this problem already and told me gm might do something about the faulty speedometers. i have heard the warranty on this was extended to 7 year 70,000 miles for '03 and '04 models. how can gm put a mileage restriction on the part that measures the mileage. if the speedometer is not working properly, the odometer should not be reading accurately either. what if the odometer says your vehicle has 75000 miles and the vehicle really has 67000. guess what? your warranty period would have been exceeded in gm's eyes, even though the actual mileage is still within the warranty limits. a speedometer is a part that should never fail during the life of a vehicle. gm should recall all defective speedometers no matter what mileage the vehicle has... *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500. the contact stated that the speedometer failed over a year ago. while driving 65 mph, the speedometer remained at zero. he received a recall letter from the manufacturer, but it was only valid for 65,000 miles. the vehicle's mileage exceeded the requirement. the dealer stated that the vehicle needed a new instrument cluster at the cost of $400. the vehicle had not been repaired. the recall number was unknown. the current mileage was 145,000 and failure mileage was 117,000.

Electrical/instrument cluster/sdm- first reported service air bag light on at 65,000 mile's scanned system found fault in sdm and wiring given estimate of $825.00 for repairs, at 84,000 whole instrument panel/speedometer/radio went on/off repeatedly while driving. scanned system found fault in wiring and sdm, i have had no air bags/speedometer/instruments for 18 months. very unsafe in mi. *tr

I have a 2005 chevy silverado with 46k miles on it and the speedometer failed. it intermittently starts at a random speed and sometimes sticks at max speed. i took to dealership and they said it would cost me around $500 to repair. i believe there is a history of stepper motor failures on this item for the last few years but they haven't recalled any of the 2005 or later models. *tr

Just after warranty, speedometer sticks to zero or pegs to bottom. i've asked my dealer about getting it fixed, they said it would cost six hundred dollars. since then, the tach has started doing the same thing and i feel this is unsafe due to not knowing what speed i am going. *tr

In october 2007 i purchased a used 2005 chevy silverado 2500 hd pickup from a used car dealer with 38,515 miles on it. after the purchase i discovered the vehicle speedometer sticks and does not work properly. now the instrument panel gauges also appear to not be showing the proper operating temperatures for the transmission. i have received no help to correct the problem other than to tell me to take it to a dealer and pay $600 to have it repaired. i have put less than 2000 miles on the truck and paid over $37000 for the truck. i don't have any money left to fix it and i think it is a safety risk to my family there must be something that can be done to help since it appears there are many complaints on the internet over this problem. *tr

2005 chevy silverado 2500hd (duramax diesel). the speedometer suddenly stopped showing an accurate reading while driving approximately 10 mph. it now shows 55 mph while at a complete stop and pegs over 120 mph when driving on the interstate. this is a known issue with the 2004 model year, but i'm not seeing any info yet for 2005 (which is the model i have). this should be a recall from gm to fix this - rather than their tricky little special replacement rules that limit the fix to 70,000 miles. this is a huge safety issue - not being able to tell how fast i am traveling at any given time/not being able to trust my instrument panel readings. *tr

Speedometer will read very high speeds when traveling slowly. e.g. 110 mph traveling 30 mph. happens in cold, cold weather. *nm
