At the worst possible time with icy roads and snow. i was on my driveway trying to get to the top off it when i lost traction. i stopped and applied the brakes. i started to back down the drive when the peddle fell to the floor causing the truck to go violently out of control and crash down over an embankment. there was no warning, just total loss of brakes both front and rear. mechanic says the lines blew apart from rust. *tr

As i approached a stop sign, i applied the brakes and the brake pedal went soft and then to the floor. immediately followed by a brake system warning and a brake light on the instrument panel. i got the vehicle stopped on the side of the road and checked the brake fluid reservoir. it was empty. it had been snowing that day and i noticed a puddle of fluid had formed in the fresh snow under the driver's side of the vehicle, just inboard and aft of the front left wheel. when i crawled underneath and looked i found what appears to be severely rotted brake lines. i have never had a solid brake line fail on me before and was quite shocked at how progressed the corrosion was. i take care of my truck and it gets washed and serviced regularly. with that it gets used as a truck as well. i feel that the corrosion was excessive and perhaps is the result of a material flaw/cheap materials used. i shudder to think what the outcome would have been had i been towing my horse trailer or my camper that day. *tr

When coming to a stop a speeds of 10 mph or less, brake pedal goes towards the floor as if the abs is activating, causing loss of braking. it occurs on all types of driving surfaces and in all weather conditions. problem has gotten worse with time. dealership says there is no known problem... however the internet says differently! problem occurs almost every time you are making a slow approach to a stop, which is usually when other vehicles or pedestrians are in front of you. *tr

The abs on my 2006 silverado activates on low speed stops on dry pavement causing the brakes to release. it is not the typical abs action that most people are familiar with, where the brakes release and apply - it is the brakes releasing and not reapplying under pressure, while foot is on brake. i have gone through an intersection while towing a horse trailer and had many near-miss incidents coming into toll booths, stop signs and red lights. have almost rear-ended vehicles because of this. this needs to be a recall item. it is dangrous, very expensive to fix and prone to happen again once fixed.

Abs activation at slow speeds preventing stopping of vehicle. dealer and gm refused to participate in repair, stated the sensors were contaminated from rust and therefore not defective, the problem is environmental and we cannot assist you with the repair.. there is no abs warning light coming on and this is identical to the problem found on earlier models 1999-2002 which were recalled. i was told i need to replace the front wheel speed sensors @ a cost of 460.00 dollars to correct the problem. this happens almost every time the vehicle comes to a stop causing it to surge forward, it will cause a collision..

I have a 2006 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd four wheel drive that is not stopping properly at low speeds. the abs system is letting go at slow speeds causing the brakes to let go. this could be a very serious situation at a crosswalk with children. i reported the problem at the local dealer and they said it was a common occurance due to rust affecting the abs brake sensors. the cost of the sensors was 135.00 each plus about three hors labour total close to $600.00. i think this shoud be a recall issue as it is not cuased by wear.

I have an 06 chevy silverado 2500hd extra cab, i live in ct. i recently started experiencing a problem with the vehicle when slowing to a stop, the abs kicks on, whether driving on wet or dry roads. i had aa warranty which was 3 year , 36,000 miles which the 3 years expired last october and the vehicle recently turned 37,000 miles. i have found many similar complaints online and the local dealer seems to know nothing of any problem and of course wants me to bring the truck in for a diagnosis. the problem happens randomly, and it definitely increases my stopping distance. i have considered removing the fuse for the abs system but feel i may need the abs in some future circumstance. any help you can give would be appreciated

My chevrolet 2500 has a function called grade braking to assist the brakes when towing a load down hill. it has quit functioning but the dealers cannot figure out how to troubleshoot the problem. they said since no codes show on the computer i have to wait until i have a trailer behind it and am near a dealer that is near a steep grade to test it. the whole point of the system it to keep the truck from running away on a steep grade. doesn't sound like the place to test it. there are no steep grades with in 150 miles of me. there should be a simulated test run by their computer. *tr

Power steering fails and since the power steering pump controls the hydoboost it affects the power brakes of the vehicle. when the power steering pump fails you loose power brakes and the vehicle moves forward at a brisk pace until you forcefully put both feet on the brake pedal and push down with all the power you can to stop the truck. since this has happened 4 times i realize immediatly what the probelem was and applied all the pedal power i could to stop the truck. this can be an intermittent problem and since the dealer cannot duplicate the issue, they will not replace the power steering pump until it fails completely, which mine finally did. 6 months later the replacement pump is doing the same intermittent failure and the dealer will not replace it until it completely fails again. *tr

Drove 40 miles from work to home on nov.25th and parked in my driveway. no issues. on saturday, nov.28th, attempting to leave driveway, had loss of steering and braking (no power assist) and rolled into street. vehicle towed to local dealer. cause was ruptured nitrogen cannister at hydroboost assembly with loss of power assist and contamination of fluids. fortunately, i was in my driveway on not on the 40 mile trip to or from work on interstate highway. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado k2500 hd. while driving approximately 50 mph, the brakes failed when the contact depressed the brake pedal. he was able to bring the vehicle to a stop by applying the emergency brake. the dealer stated that the brake line failed due to defective welding of the rear driver's side brake shock absorber. the vehicle was taken to a dealer and they partially repaired the brakes. the contact took the vehicle to a second dealer and they stated that the brake line was partially welded and the failure could recur at any moment. they further stated that there was no evidence that the vehicle was driven on rough terrain; however, it was a factory defect. the manufacturer took a report, but will not authorize the dealer to complete the welding repair. the failure mileage was 29,000 and current mileage was 34,639.

Vehicle sat at the airport for 72hrs. when i left the airport, the brakes felt spongy, but were able to stop the vehicle. on the freeway as i was braking, the brakes began to feel more spongy, requiring increased stopping distance. when i arrived at my residence approximately 45 miles from the airport, i tried to turn into my driveway, only to find i had lost all power steering assist and braking assist. i was able to finally turn in, but had to use my emergency brake to come to a full stop. once, stopped, i found i could not turn the steering wheel and there were no brakes. i opened the power steering reservoir cap, which immediately spewed a few ounces of p/s fluid over the engine compartment, fortunately not on the hot exhaust. dealer had the vehicle towed 2 miles to their dealership where they claimed they could not duplicate the problem. however, they did keep it over night and decide to change a p/s pressure relief valve even though they could not duplicate anything. i filed a complaint to gm without anyone taking this serious safety issue as a real problem. this safety issued must be addressed and the root cause must be found before serious injury/death occurs due to this problem. *tr
