In a letter dated august 27, 2008, general motors corp. (gm) notified nhtsa that it will conduct a safety recall (nhtsa recall number 08v-441) to address a safety relateddefect that can result in engine compartment fire in approximately 850,000 vehicles equipped with a heated windshield washer fluid option.the subject vehicles of this investigation comprise over three-quarters of the recall population. according to gm, a short circuit on the printed circuit board for the windshield washer fluid heater module may overheat the control-circuit ground wire. this may cause other electrical features to malfunction, create an odor or cause smoke and in rare cases it may cause a fire.as a remedy, gm dealers will install a wire harness with an in-line fuse. in addition to the subject vehicles, several other gm models with the heated windshield washer fluid option are included in recall 08v-441: my 2006-2008 buick lucerne (manufactured august 2005 through november 2007); my 2008 buick enclave (manufactured february 2007 through april 2007); my 2006-2008 cadillac dts (manufactured may 2007 through november 2007); my 2007-2008 saturn outlook (manufactured august 2006 through april 2007); and my 2007-2008 gmc acadia (manufactured august 2006 through april 2007) vehicles.gm is instructing owners to take their vehicle to a dealer for service if they experience symptoms of windshield washer heater module short circuits. gm's recall resolves the safety defect concerns pursued by this investigation.this engineering analysis is closed.

2007 chevy silverado 2500hd. smelt burning plastic from time to time and blamed it on outside fumes. august 2009 heater blower fan only worked on certain settings for a couple of days and finally totally failed. looked up problem on internet and found that the blower resistor had failed which seemed to be a quite common problem. i located the problem myself and found the resistor and the wiring harness had melted together and the wires had melted the plastic off about 1 1/2 from the harness. from other research on the internet i found that one truck actually caught fire. i explained to chevy customer service my safety concerns and my disgust as to why this problem is not a recall. i don't believe that they are interested in resolving the problem. could you please look into the matter some more and call electricalconnection.com for more info. they sell the replacement part in a kit for the diyer and from what they tell me it is a common defect with gm since 1999 and they sell quite alot of their kits to people who's vehicles are out of warranty. *tr

Vehicle was purchased new on 5/10/2007. on 7/20/2007 while parked in the driveway the vehicle caught fire. the fire dept. and police dept. at the scene at the time of the fire made reports stating the fire started inside the cab of the vehicle, most probably at the left rear corner of the cab. most probably caused by an electrical malfunction. there was some trash located in the bed of the truck which after the rear window blew out, caught fire and caused damage to the bed area as well. over $7000.00 damage done to the inside of the cab. and to the box of the truck. this is what the insurance co paid to repair the truck. when the dealership was called and the fire was reported to them. their replycall your insurance company when explained that the fire dept and the police dept reports stated the fire started in the cab of the truck, and most probably an electrical malfunction, their reply again call your insurance company the insurance company repaired the body and interior damage caused by the fire, and is in subugation with chevrolet to recoup their losses. as yet chevrolet has done nothing to correct the electrical problem, and even denies there is an electrical malfunction. on 12/11/2007 at approx 8:15 am i observed that the truck after being parked overnight in the driveway. and covered with snow as there was about 7 of snow fall over night, the rear window was completely defrosted. the temperature at that time was 28 deg. f. there has been no contact from chevrolet to me since the better business bureau auto line program will not arbitrate because there is property damage . *tr
