SUSPENSION
10/19/2011
We had a life threatening event on october 19, 2011. the left lower control arm was broken and the right lower control arm was cracked ready to break. this was discovered when we went for a wheel alignment. we had to have them repair it immediately due to the danger of the problem. the pitman arm and idler arm needed to be replaced because of this problem. we don't have a chevrolet dealership here. they said the lower control arms were defective. we use this truck only for pleasure, no hauling. we e-mailed the chevrolet consumer support center and they gave us a service request number. we were requested by them to communicate by phone. we called them on october 21, 2011 and they requested the alignment shop's phone number. on october 25, 2011, they called us and said that this was not under warranty. they didn't seemed to be concerned that the parts were defective. we wanted to let you know of this dangerous problem since there may be more defective lower control arms. i still have the defective parts.

SUSPENSION - FRONT - HUB

There was a bumping noise noted coming from the left front wheel. the truck was taken to the dealer for repair. the left front hub assembly for the chevy 2500hd four wheel drive with duramax diesel engine was replaced. the dealer stated that the right front hub assemble was also loose and would need to be replaced soon. the dealer stated that they have had to replace three other complete hubs, so this means that a total of six hubs have had to be replaced. it was confirmed with the dealer that these hub assemblies have no grease fittings and only come with whatever grease is in the hub at the time of manufacture. this is a potentially dangerous situation and could result in an accident with a loss of life. this is reported in the hope that a full and complete investigation is conducted prior to a catastrophic failure with a loss of vehicle control and a resulting loss of property and lives. this should be investigated with the highest priority. i await your response and results of the investigation. *tr

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle's tire hubs are sealed units and could not be repacked with grease. the hub assembly was loose which caused the bearings to become defective resulting in wobbling tires. the front hubs had to be replaced twice however the service dealer could not determine why the bearings were becoming defective. also, there was oil leaking out of the egr vavle. the egr valve was replaced which corrected the problem. then vehicle was surging and would not accelerate. when the vehicle was taken to the dealer the vehicle's egr valve was replaced again which also corrected the problem. updated 11/06/06.*jb

Tl- the contact owns 2004 chevrolet 2500hd. while parked the contact noticed the rear axle shock mount had snapped. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the mechanic attempted to order the part from the manufacturer who stated new axle had to be purchased because the part was not sold separately. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 54,000. ds
