I need to find out what i can do about my chevy. silverado i purchased the silverado in 1999 and have had it in the shop on average about 1 every 3 months. it has had two coil wires out and have had the injectors cleaned so many times i lost count. then the computer went out, the catalytic converter went out, and the lifters went bad they said. now it has a rod out. all this and the truck on has 58700 miles on it. does the law say that when some thing major goes out the law is extended by that date? i called g.m. assistance and they flat refused the claim and then offered me 1000. to purchase a new truck. i also had purshased a 100000 mile protection plan. that i found out expired after the first 3 years. that was a rip off because the regular warrenty was good for the first 3 years or 36000 miles. and all time i had the feeling i was protected. one of the dealers did a tear down, at first the dealer informed me that the mains were out of round then the service mans boss said that the rod went out causing pressure on the mains and that was why they were out of round. i purchased the vehicle from folsom lake chev. i moved to vacaville and had shellworth chev do all maint. i then moved to wheatland at that point i had wheeler chev in yuba city and john l sullivan in roseville do all the maint. the problems with the lifters and rods started after i took the truck to wheerel in yuba city this was about 9-6-2003 any information you can give me will be helpful cecil hutson *la

Danger of rear brakes locking up. rear brakes wearing to early. my first brake job on my truck occurred on the rear brakes on 5-2-05. my mechanic commented at that time how strange it was to change the rear brakes and not the front brakes. he said front brakes should have twice the wear but for some reason after his inspection found my front brakes still had ample thickness on the pads. so only my rear brakes were changed at that time. 12 months and only 15,500 miles later i was right back at the shop having my rear brakes changed again. the owner of the shop warned me of changing the brakes without changing the calipers. he said it was his experience on the chevy silverado models that the brakes would eventually lock up if the calipers were not changed as well. he was very familiar with the chevy silverado braking problem and emphatically stated 8 out of 10 trucks' brakes would eventually lock up if new calipers were not installed. i was given the option of proceeding with or without new calipers and chose to have them installed. i have all invoices with dates and mileage to back up my claim and i'm willing to submit them to anyone. *jb

After owning my vehicle for just shy of 3 years i had it inspected in 2010 and the garage showed me the excessive underbody rust. this rust effected the entire frame and various parts of the brake assembly. he pointed out that the leaf springs were totally unaffected. that seemed to him to rule out weather as a factor. it had to be the materials or preparation of the frame and axle metal since the leaf springs looked brand new. the truck was mostly parked during the winter so it had minimum exposure to salt. it has now been two more years of very light use of about 3000 miles a year and the brakes had to be turned down and the rust is advancing. gm was contacted two years ago and they did nothing. i checked my underbody numbers and traced the manufacturing to mexico. what bothers me here is that this is a work truck that i have carried a ton of materials at a time in. if there is a structural failure due to that excessive rust someone could get hurt. i baby my vehicle on the road but gm should be giving owners some guidance about this excessive rust problem and they are just ignoring it. *tr ## vin failed ## chevy silverado 1500 4wd 8cyl long bed ##
