My 2002 chevrolet suburban 1500 has began to stall unexpectedly. it stalls when fuel tank is low and when tank is full. lately, its been difficult to crank. i have a new battery, the alternater tested fine, i've had the fuel pump replaced twice and it still stalls.

I have a 2002 chevy suburban. the truck started shutting off at any speed leaving me without power steering or power brakes. i changed the fuel filter the next day but problem still occurs. then car stalled on highway and would not start again. car started about 2 hours later and then cut out a block down the road. started the car another 3 hours later and car was able to make it the 5 miles home. fuel pump was replaced about 50k miles ago. stall is a dangerous situation with no steering and little braking issue. with all of the internet feedback, and the the 2000 and 2001 fuel issues with this model, chevy should do something about this.

While traveling on busy street, our 2002 chevrolet suburban suddenly was without power. pressing on accelerator did nothing and vehicle completely stalled when brake was applied. this left us attempting to navigate from busy street with our three kids in the car with no power steering or brakes! we were 140 miles from home and when we attempted to drive back home, this problem occurred again. this time on busy four lane road with lots of traffic. the vehicle stalled out again leaving us on side of busy road at on ramp location. this was not first time that this has occurred. we have had 5 other incidences with this vehicle. gm is no help. they act like they have never had any reports of such problems, yet many can be found online. we had our vehicle towed to an independent repair center since the gm dealership repair shop was more interested in telling us that they couldn't fix it on that day but they did have a rental car service on lot. i hope that soon attention will be given to this obvious defect in this vehicle before someone is killed. but then again that is what it took for attention to be given to toyota problems. please take action for this matter before lives are lost!!!!

I have aj 2002 chevy suburban w/144k miles on it. the fuel pump was replaced while still under warranty because if the fuel level got too low it would not start. in the last 3 months have had the intermittent shut off problem listed on other complaints. i have had it do it on rough roads and interstate highways. same thing, engine stops, wait 3-5 minutes engine starts, seems less prevalent when tank is full. dealership says chevy sees no overall problem with it, my mechanic tells me a new fuel pump is not too expensive but the real cost is the labor to take the fuel take off and replace it. total $900-1100, that is outrageous especially for a problem gm knows it has. *tr

While driving on the houston tollway at 65 mph, my 2002 suburban suddenly and without warning lost power and the engine shutdown. i managed to get the vehicle onto the shoulder without incident after attempting to restart the engine while trying to steer clear of traffic. the vehicle would not start and was towed to lone star chevrolet in houston, texas. the bill was 1045.10. they replaced the fuel module and the fuel filter and told me that there had been some problems with gm vehicles dating back to 1999 models on the same problem. mine had only 70158 mi. i think gm should reimburse me for the cost of repair. i talked to a customer who had a similar problem on his 1999 gmc suburban and they filed a complaint with gm and was reimbursed for the repair. fair is fair and i expect nothing less from them. *jb

2002 chevrolet surburban engine stalled while being driven at 70mph down freeway. was able to get engine restarted while still rolling. no repair made yet, service technician said many possible causes and would be easier to diagnose if it would not start. wife's 2000 model chev suburban had almost identical problem 01/21/2002. *nm

My 2002 chevy suburban has intermittent but increasingly more frequent and longer duration starting problems. my research tells me that it is exhibiting the exact same symptoms as the 2000 and 2001 suburban models that were under a 2005 fuel pump harness recall. after nearly 4 months of dealing with this problem, researching it, and trying to convince both my local mechanic and the dealership to replace the pump, my suburban finally failed to start at all today. tomorrow my local mechanic is going to replace the fuel pump and relay. i am angry to discover that the 2001 and 2000 models were under recall for this very same issue, but the 2002 models were not included in the recall and the dealership -- courtesy chevrolet in san diego -- despite 3 recent visits there with this problem, failed to mention this recall of those earlier year models. they failed to even recognize that this could be a problem with my suburban. they won't do anything unless a computer diagnosed code tells them what to do. my symptoms are the same and i'm realizing now how fortunate i am that this car did not die on me in the middle of one of the many interstate highways in san diego county. i'm also fortunate that my car did not catch on fire! i'm asking you to look into how many 2002 suburbans have the same fuel pump and fuel pump harness issues as the 2000 and 2001 models. the date listed below is the first day the car acted up. it has been ongoing progressively since then.

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet suburban 1500. while driving 60 mph, the contact was informed of something hanging from underneath his vehicle. he pulled over and noticed that one of the gas tank brackets, used to support the gas tank underneath the vehicle, failed. the vehicle was no longer under warranty. the manufacturer advised him to take the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, but the contact refuses. the failure mileage was 160,000.
