Tl*the contact owns a 1999 chevrolet suburban. whenever the vehicle is at a stop, the rpm's decrease and the vehicle shuts off. when accelerating up a hill or slope, the vehicle begins to stall. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure could not be diagnosed. in addition, whenever the contact activates the seat heater on the front passenger seat it begins to burn through the leather on the seat. the contact was slightly burned on his right leg. the vehicle has not been to the dealer for this failure. he did not notice any differences beforehand. the speed was not a factor. the current mileage was 120,000 and failure mileage was 100,000.

Seat failure-the driver side seat support broke causing the seat to lurch forward and backward upon stopping and starting of the vehicle accompanied by a loud popping noise. dealer is replacing supports on both the driver and passenger seat since the passenger seat was also loose or cracking. engine-the original engine in the truck failed. the crankshaft rod bearings were badly worn. the trouble was detected by a slight knock in the lower part of the engine. the new engine started to produce a tapping noise upon cold start up. the dealer said this was a normal noise due to loose pistons (slap). the noise subsides after about 4 minutes of warm-up. if this is piston slap, the engine will wear faster causing premature failure. i called gm and they were not interested in the discussing or helping with latter problem.

Driver's side seat experienced excessive play in the tracks, which in turn, caused seat to rock in motion. consumer has taken truck into dealer 9 times for the same problem. rear bolts that held the tracks to seat frame fell out. *ak

We purchased this vehicle in march of 2001. the seat latch that slides the seat forward began to give us problems. we took the casing off of the base of the seat and found that the release lever had been worn to the point that it no longer releases the seat to slide forward. in the event of a emergency i would not be able to get my children out of the rear seat of the car quickly. car easily.*ak

Seat back adjustment lever frays seat belt. the lever that is used to release the seat back for adjustment often catches the seat belt making it difficult to put on. pulling on the belt has caused the belt to fray slightly. i swapped the levers side-for-side correcting the problem. as originally installed, the drivers lever was labeled r and the passenger lever was labeled l. i believe they were incorrectly installed at the factory. *ak

When brakes are applied front pulls to left, and sometimes to right. this also happens when a bump in road is hit. dealer has worked on this vehicle a number of times, but problem has not been solved. *ak consumer also complains of soft pedal, steering wheel also pulsates when braking, dealer has switched rotors from side to side, replaced out of round rotors, replaced front brake pads twice, and resurfaced rotors and drums, dealer rotated tires and vehicle still pulled. steering wheel found off center. center seat recliner handle broke, dealer replaced handle. vehicle experienced oil leak. driver door power switch loose in door. reverse low planetary gear was broken causing a grinding noise at low gear, valve body and gear were scored due to metal in transmission. air pump replaced due to being very noisy. *slc

The rear seat which provides access to the rear most seating, flips forward and slides forward, upon release of a lever. this component failed due to faulty design in the first 10 minutes we owned the car. the seat latch would not release (the metal l shaped bar - fell out of the hole in the lever mechanism). driving home from the dealership, we needed to brake suddenly and the seat latch gave way, the seat flew forward with our child in the seat - the seatbelt restrained the child from moving forward - but the seat was free to move forward - crushing our child between the seat and the seatbelt. she screamed in pain and was scared to ride in this seat. the seat latch caught again after braking when our son in the seat behind her pulled her loose seat back until it latched again. however, when we pulled over - the latch failed to activate and release the seat to let everyone out of the back seat. this is a clear manufacturer's defect as it occured coincidentally in another suburban that we were considering buying the day before. we need this seat due to our family size. we must request a recall and remedy to this defective latch system design before a child is seriously injured or killed. *ak

This is the third time i have replaced the brake pads and this time i had to replace the right front rotor due to warping. the brakes on this vehicle are grossly undersized and chevrolet knows this. that is why the brakes on the new 2003 suburban are larger even though the vehicle is several hundred pounds lighter than this model. i had intended to keep this car for at least 6 or 7 years but must now give it up because i am worried the brakes will fail all together. also, the seat heaters on both front seats quit working after the first year and wouldn't be replaced by the dealer. *jb
