I have 2003 suburban 1500, that keeps getting a error message reduce engine power. the vehicle will all of sudden while driving, reduce speed and i can't accelerate above 25-30mph. i will have to pull over and turn car off for 10-15 seconds before it resets, however it will continue to happen over and over again! it is very scary and dangerous when i have my kids or my wife drive it because you never know when the car will have this happen. strangely, when we drive on the highway we can use the cruise control feature when we reach 25mph and use the cruise control to accelerate that way with minimal occurances. i have taken the car to 2 chevy dealers and 3 mechanics nither can tell us whats wrong! this is frustrating because we only have on car, and we know this a safety hazard and extremly dangerous and somebody has to look into this! i only hope someone who reads these complaints has the power to help me and everyone with this problem.

My suburban goes to reduced power unexpectantly and the engine will stall causing a loss of power steering and control of the vehicle. my suburban has been taken in to the dealer i purchased the vehicle from on five occasions and the dealer is unable to fix the problem.. the most recent time was 9/1/2011. it went to reduced power 10 miles after leaving dealership and stalled as i pulled out into traffic from a restaurant. a number of cars had to brake excessively and swerve around me until i could angle my suburban off the road without power steering. the truck weighs 6700 lbs and i needed all my strength to turn the wheel enough to get off the road. i am fearful about driving my suburban and the high probability of injury to myself or others.

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet suburban. the contact stated the all gauges on the instrument panel have stopped working. the digital and mechanical gauges failed and the contact does not know how much gas was in the vehicle or how fast they were traveling. the contact stated that the light in the gear shift indicator failed first. the vehicle was not inspected, but the contact was concerned that the failure was a wiring problem. the failure mileage was 99,000 and the current mileage was 103,000.

My 2003 chevy suburban's speedometer and volt meter indicate wildly false readings. i never know how fast i am really driving and i don't know if my electrical system is really at 30 volts or 0. i believe this is an unsafe condition.

I have a 2003 z71 suburban. the speedometer broke today all of a sudden, said i was driving 60mph when i was barely doing 25. when i shut the car off it remained at 30mph. i called the chevy dealer and they knew right away what the problem was and how much to fix it. $600.00. now i know why, after reading the complaints on here. everybody has the same problem. my truck has 91,000 miles on it. why won't gm repair this regardless of how many miles the vehicles have on it. a defect is a defect, regardless of what the mileage is when it occurs! let's see, food in my kids mouth and a roof over their heads, or $600.00 to repair my defective truck. no wonder why gm is going under. i know i will never buy another gm vehicle. you people should do something. i see there a tons of complaints for the same thing. this obviously is a safety issue. *tr

Revving of engine to point of screeching tires. sometimes feeling of being in neutral for a second then clunk in tranny/rear end? acts as engagement of cruise control increasing speed, not able to disengage by hitting brake. computer did not show anything. next time putter locked out tech's. puter replaced. worked good for two weeks. engine revved, hit patch of ice, totaled out z-71. thank god, no injuries. fighting it for appx 16000 miles. 72000 to 88000. *tr

The issue started with the drivers memory seat not remembering the seat position and the easy exit pushed the seat forward in to the steering wheel instead of back. then came the issue with the speedometer. i received the letter identifying this problem however like so many other people my vehicle has more than 70,000 miles and although it has been identified as a problem gm will not consider it a recall and i would have to pay to have it fixed. this is obviously a wide spread problem that gm should fix free of charge no matter the mileage. my husband also has the same issue with his 2005 3/4 ton silverado. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet suburban. the same day the vehicle was purchased, the contact attempted to apply the parking brake and the vehicle rolled forward. the vehicle has been to the repair shop three times and each time the mechanic stated that everything was fine. the emergency brake has not worked since the vehicle was purchased. the current mileage was 62,000 and failure mileage was 1. the consumer stated the sunroof leaked, a blown fuse was replaced. the temperature gauge in the rear view mirror was inoperative, the dealer tightened the connection, there was a rattle coming from thee left side of the vehicle when going over bumps in the road. updated 10/24/07.*jb

The 2003 chevy suburban has an intermittent, recurring issue with the cluster that causes it to short out. there are many examples of this problem from other customers listed on the internet. in my personal experience, this problem results in electronic failures that present themselves in these ways: 1) the speedometer either fails to operate or displays the max speed. 2) when turning off the vehicle, the radio will automatically turn on and begin playing as your exiting the vehicle 3) when placing the key in the ignition, the automatic seat will begin moving by itself, does not remember the previous settings and will force you into the steering wheel. i could not stop the seat from jamming me into the steering wheel. when i contacted the dealership, they knew exactly what the problem was without even looking at the car. the reason they know about it is because they have replaced so many of them already. when i contacted gm, all they would do is offer me a one time service of $200 which would not apply to fixing the faulty cluster. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle had keyless entry and the power supply failed, which resulted in no way to get in or out of the vehicle. the contact expressed concern that if someone was to be inside the vehicle when the power supply failed, they would not be able to exit the vehicle and could cause a life threatening concern.
01/27/200653000301/01/2003
Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle looses power intermittently. the first time this occurred, the dealership determined a rodent had chewed through the wires. the wires were replaced. the second time this occurred, the dealership determined a clip was loose. the third time, the battery had just been charged and after driving for 40 minutes the vehicle lost all power. the vehicle would not restart, so it was jumped. the vehicle lost power again and would only travel at 10-15 mph. the vehicle was towed to the dealership. the dealership checked the battery and alternator, but determined both components were in good condition. the dealership was unable to duplicate the problem and no codes were present.

Speedometer gauge stopped working. would register as going 20 mph or even up to 80 mph when parked. occasionally would appear to track then would register significantly too high or too low (usually too high). dropped off at dealer & told it needed instrument panel cluster replacement but was on back order nationwide. called gm customer assistance who confirmed with the dealer that it is a high failure item. initial attempt at replacing. same as other complaints that i have read. i was also told that the replacement of this is expensive. *nm

Vehicle is 2003 chevrolet suburban, purchases new. speedometer won't read correctly; at first it would read 20-30 mph fast; then it finally only reads between 30-120 mph; had same problem with gas gauge; ran out of gas with tank showing almost half full, in an area with no cell phone reception. very dangerous. dangerous to not be able to determine your actual speed. gm refuses to cover this problem, even though dealer has had several instances of these failures. gm must be aware of problem, but refuses to acknowledge. *nm

Dt: the consumer owns a 2003 chevy suburban. the consumer stated that she had the vehicle in the shop at least once a month since she purchased the vehicle november 12, 2003. the electrical system has been going bad, the feature record showed it was reprogramming it self, shutting her car off after she started it, unlocking the doors by itself. she almost hit someone because the vehicle accelerated by itself. she also states that the last time it was in the shop her rpms went up to 3000. the dealership said they couldn't duplicate the problem. the dealership has spoken to the gm specialist and they could not help either. *jb

My 2003 suburban would not start. i was going to jump start the vehicle and when i pulled the plastic cover off the positive terminal, the entire terminal fell out in my hand. the acid poured out of the hold and landed on my hand. the positive post on my ac delco battery failed after only 2 years, 9 months. it has a 6 year warranty. the battery was original equipment ton my 2003 chevrolet suburban. i contacted the chevrolet dealer and they told me that since my warranty had expired, then the battery was not covered. i contacted ac delco and asked if they would replace or pro-rate the battery. they said no. the damage to my vehicle was from the acid leaking out of the hole where the positive terminal was. the acid from the battery ate the paint off the interior of the battery shelf. i purchased a new battery from a different manufacturer and installed it in my suburban. in looking on the internet for similar problems, it was very easy to find others who had ac delco batteries and their positive post failed. ac delco knows of the problem, but continues to sell a defective battery. *jb

Dt: consumer owns a 2003 chevrolet suburban. he took vehicle to dealer at least seven times since april. when the vehicle turns over it just does not start. he came back from myrtle beach, and while driving on the interstate at 80 mph when the vehicle shut down and stalled. he managed to coast off the interstate, it then started back up with one attempt. he traveled about 150 miles and the vehicle stalled again and it started back, this time it started and was running a little rough. the consumer took vehicle to the next exit and found a dealer who told him that he could make it back to ohio if he did not drive it very fast. the dealer told him that it was the fuel filter that was not able to handle the pressure. he drove back at 55 mph, and the vehicle did not shut down. the next morning he took vehicle to dealer in farris ohio where he bought the vehicle. the dealer changed the ignition switch, the fuel pump, and something he thinks is called a ubeck. he was frustrated that he seemed to spend too much time at the dealer instead at home.*ak

My wife drives a chevrolet tahoe 2003 ls with about 48 000 miles on it. recently i was driving on the interstate and noticed the speedometer was showing 90 mph. i looked at other cars around me and decided may be i was going a little fast. so i slowed down a bit. the speedometer went up to 100. after i pulling over and stopped it went down slowly after i stopped. during the next week, the speedometer continued to increase and eventually stuck at the highest speed. so i made some calls to various dealers , and was told that several people have had this problem, and that it was going to cost $500 to fix the instrument cluster. i think this is a safety issue and want to notify chevrolet. i think this is their problem. i don't want to pay for this one. yesterday evening, the speedometer appeared to be working again. this time i've noticed it will track on the right speed and then have to come to a complete stop to sort of reset it. *ak

While making a turn light came on indicating brake system failure in a matter of seconds. then, everything shut down. consumer lost the ability to steer or brake. after struggling consumer managed to pull the vehicle to the side of the road. after waiting a few minutes consumer attempted to restart the vehicle, but it would not turn over. it had no power. consumer had the vehicle towed to a chevrolet dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that a short in a fuel pump wire caused a fuse to blow out, which in turn, shut down the entire system. consumer stated that dealer put vehicle on the diagnostic machine, and the main computer showed no failure. however, prior to this incident there had been some other electrical problems. *ak

I was driving about 45 mph on a 2 lane road when smoke started coming from the defrost vent. smoke increased over the next 45 seconds. i was not able to pull over due to large ditches on either side of the road and rush hour traffic. engine died after 35 seconds of smoke. i was able to turn a corner and get off the road. after exiting the truck a fire consumed the entire truck the fire department came 10 min later and put out the flames. the asst. fire chief mentioned the fire started in the heating vent system. i can provide names and phone numbers of the chief upon request. the truck was a total loss. to date my insurance company has taken one week to retrieve the truck from the impound lot and chevy's product liability division has not help with any expenses incurred by myself including $3,800.00 in tool purchases which were destroyed in the fire. help getting a new truck or car rental expenses. my insurance only pays 30 per day my cost on a truck is 55.per day. the chevy's product liability has been rude and very matter of fact speaking that the will only cover the nada value on my truck regardless of what the note is with my bank. any expenses incurred will only be limited to what the insurance company pays. on both tools and auto. *nm
