Dt: contact stated when he took the vehicle to the dealer for routine services the mechanic found that 2 front tires were worn out because the idler arm and the pitman shaft needed to be replaced .the vehicle was repaired at no cost to consumer because the vehicle was still under warranty. *ak updated 12/27/05. *jb

I purchase a new chevrolet suburban in june 2004 from priority chevrolet in chesapeake virginia. at about 4000 miles i noticed the inside edges (about 1 inch wide) on the front tires were wearing more than the rest of the tire surface, i called the service department of the dealership and they told that while they are aware of the problem with uneven tire wear on suburbans that it is not a warranty covered item. i took the vehicle to firestone and they told me the cambers needed to be adjusted. the tires on the front continue to wear faster on the inside edges than the rest of the tire surface. i am very diligent about service of my 3 automobiles. if this is a persistent problem with suburbans as it was stated to me, my concern is that the uneven tire wear is an accident waiting to happen. these potential tire failures need to be brought to the attention of general motors. even if an accident does not occur these tires are not cheap. once the inside wear becomes bad enough the tires will not pas inspection thus creating a cost to the vehicle owner at a premature time. i feel this is a dangerous situation which needs to be brought to the attention of gm. *jb
TIRES - TEMPORARY/EMERGENCY SPARE TIRE

I had a flat tire on a 2004 chevy suburban. after about 1 hour of trying, i was not able to release the spare tire hoist on the vehicle. since i could not access the spare tire, i had to call for a tow truck. the tow truck driver also could not get the spare tire to release from the vehicle. the vehicle had to be towed to the dealer. the dealer had to replace the bad hoist. this was the first time i tried to use the spare hoist since the vehicle was purchased. the dealer said that this is a common failure and the tow truck driver agreed. the dealer also said it was my fault for abusing the hoist (driving on dirt roads) and not properly servicing the hoist. no where in the owner's manual does it talk about spare tire hoist maintenance. the total cost for a flat tire was over $400 and 7 hours of my time. *jb
