RQ99015GENERAL MOTORS CORP.07/14/199912/28/2001FRONT SEAT RECLINER BOLT FAILURE99V130000
Gm conducted two recalls, 95v-246 and 99v-130, for 741,486 model year 1992-1994 c/k extended cab light trucks, equipped with front high back bucket seats or 60/40 split bench seats.the bolts attaching the seat back to the recliner mechanism could loosen, fatigue, or fracture.in a past investigation, gm stated that the 2-door full size utility vehicles shared the same seats as the c/k trucks. this investigation is opened to determine if the utility vehicles based on the c/k trucks should be recalled as well.

Seat backs broke during rear end collision

I entered my vehicle and when i sat in the driver's seat the front left frame bracket on the seat snapped. the welding apparently broke. this vehicle has never been off-road and i am not obese. now, when i sit in the seat, it leans back in an uncomfortable and, most importantly, dangerous position. the seat moves back and forth everytime the accelerator and/or brake pedal is depressed. i tried to have gm fix this, because it is obviously a defect, as welding should not come undone under normal operating conditions. gm would not accept the responsibility to fix this defect. *ak

SEATS - FRONT ASSEMBLY - POWER ADJUST
08/01/1997
I have been made aware of failures in the power seat riser assembly in 95-96 chevy tahoes, causing the seat assembly to first become loose, and eventually fail. the outcome of the failure results in the driver faling backwards due to the fact that the seat is no longer intact with the rest of the assembly. the first indication of a problem is a rocking type movement in the seat mechanism when under acceleration/deceleration, which becomes obvious over a period of time. my truck was taken to the dealer for this complaint while it was under warranty, and of course they could not find the problem. it has since gotten progressively worse. from my understanding the cost for a consumer to replace the defective component to prevent a failure is in excess of $300. i am not aware of any crashes as a result of the seat failure, but there have been some close calls. from my understanding most of the failures occurred when the vehicle driver was seated and making a movement while the vehicle was not in motion.
On the driver side, back up and down button on power seat mechanism is broken, making it difficult to position the seat up and down properly. *ak
