Defect SummaryThese vehicles were assembled with the throttle cable contacting the dash mat which could bind the throttle. this does not meet with the maximum return times required by federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 124, accelerator control systems.
Consequence SummaryConsequence of non-compliance: the engine speed may not return to idle increasing the potential for a vehicle accident.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect for adequate throttle cable to dash mat clearance, and if there is insufficient clearance, cut out a portion of the dash mat to provide proper clearance.

 Recall 96v05700, manufacturer's recall 96-c-26; vehicle would not crank after dealer had just repaired car. jump started the car, engine started racing as fast as it could go, sparks came out from under the hood, tapping on the gas to get the engine to stop racing, pressed on the brakes and the car kept going. slammed into park, driver was injured in incident. opened the hood and white smoke appeared. dealer contacted, and will not respond to calls. stated they cannot find a problem. *ak

 Truck was hit from behind and knocked into another car, then the truck accelerated while driver had foot on brake hitting same vehicle again. that vehicle was pushed to the service lane, and truck hit vehicle in front of it. the truck is being repaired. *ak

 When consumer let off gas pedal during driving at 40 mph or more,the vehicle will slow down. also when starting the vehicle it started at 1500 rmp. after sveral seconds the engine will die. vehicle has been in/out of dealer shop on several occasions. on each occasion the problen reoccurred. dealer notified. *ak

 The wiring harness that conects to the turn signal modual, the wires become brittle and are breaking. the first wire to cause me a problem was the wire for the headlights, the headlights would flicker on and off untill the wire finaly broke and then there were no lights at all. the next wire that broke is the wire for the cruise control broke. and now there is no cruise control. the headlights i was able to reroute the wire and reconect to the light switch to powerup the relay with the switch. not the right way too do it but it works. also my vehicle has tilt steering wheel.*ak

 While driving and without warning vehicle suddenly accelerated. to gain control of vehicle driver put vehicle in neutral, and applied extreme pressure to accelerator pedal.vehicle not included in recall 96v057000 due to vin. *ak

 The engine began accelerating on its own, it continued to get faster and faster, techometer red lined. had to ram the gear into park in order to stop the car.
