VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL - LINKAGES
EA02015GENERAL MOTORS CORP.08/01/200201/12/2004THROTTLE STICKING CLOSED
This investigation involves the general motors corporation (gm)throttle body (tb) utilized in model year (my) 1999-2002 silverado, sierra, tahoe, suburban, avalanche and yukon (subject vehicle(s)) with 4.8l, 5.3l, and 6.0l engines. the tb valve may intermittently stick in a closed position.in such a situation, an operator may apply additional accelerator pedal force to increase engine speed.the application of additional accelerator pedal force, to open a stuck throttle valve, may open the throttle valve more than intended and, in turn, accelerate the engine and vehicle more than intended and reasonably expected by the driver.on august 1, 2002, the office of defects investigation (odi), of the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa), opened this engineering analysis.the investigation revealed that two factors may cause the defect: 1) tb manufacturing process problems; and 2) accumulation of deposits (a pcv system by-product) on or around the tb throttle valve and bore.odi concludes that the tb performs in a defective manner after analyzing gm

Cruise control automatically engaged without anyone activating the cruise control device, whatever speed that was accelerated to was automatically engaged with the cruise control, when the brakes were applied the cruise control did not disengage as it should. *slc

Vehicle does not slow down when accelerator pedal is released, unable to rectify problem due to possible design defect. mjs

While pulling out from a parking lot at 15mph and when picking at speed at 30 to 40 mph, vehicle accelerated at 40 mph and kept accelerating. consuemr applied the brakes, and the vehicle kept accelerating. when the consumer got to a red light, turned vehicle off, and when restarting, vehicle did'nt accelerate. *ak

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL - ACCELERATOR PEDAL

Vehicle fails to slow down when accelerator is released. when releasng the accelerator i notice that tachometer remains at the same rpm. at first this trouble was intermittant but has progressively failed more often until now it is continous. the only way to slow the vehicle down is by braking using the vehicle's brakes. when the engine braking was working ok, about two seconds after taking your foot of the accelerator it would slow down properly. i contacted the dealer on 2/22/2001 and he supposedly took it for a test run, however, the odometer in and out were identical, 26528 miles. when i contacted them again, their latest response was that they all do that and there is nothing i can do to have it corrected. i feel that if the problem is not corrected shortly it will cause premature brake failure because of excessive braking which could lead to an accident.*ak

When the gas pedal is released the car continues at current speed for 5 to 8 seconds before decelerating. the tachometer reading does not drop during this time. this happens at highway speeds and driving around town speeds. it's scary. it will decelerate and the tachometer reading drop when the brakes are applied, but i'm never sure.*ak

When taking foot of gas pedal vehicle will continue at current speed without slowing down. in order to slow vehicle down, consumer must apply brakes. when consumer took vehicle to dealership, they installed an idle air control valve which corrected this defect for approximately 4,000 miles. cruise defect happened again, and the idle air control valve was replaced by a different dealership. at 29,000 miles, engine will back down approximately 5 to 10 seconds after the consumer removes foot from gas pedal. *ak the dealer could not duplicate the problem and stated the condition of the vehicle as normal. *yh
While trabeling on highway depressed the gass pedal, and vehicle stalled without indications, engine check light came on. dealer has been notified, also manufacturer. *ak
